Rumours is silly and not at all subtle but I thought its details were funny. And it built to an effective conclusion. Come for the charming cast, stay for the doomed haplessness of the neoliberal consensus.

I got more out of this than I thought I would. Monster proved memorable too, though I guess that outcome was way more predictable.

Anyway, this eerily quiet thread could possibly do without the jibber jabber of a someone wot didn't even vote!

it's back at 46, but Hundreds of Beavers was one of the funniest movies I had seen in a very long time.

Saw Beavers twice in the theatre, months apart, as it’s never going to hit better than with a roaring audience.

Kneecap only played a festival here, I think, so caught up with it this week — much better than the Madness biopic-made-while-we’re-still-a-young-band-starring-ourselves in technical, narrative, and entertainment terms, and admirably bold in how little it includes of their actual music. Would have voted if I’d seen it on the big screen.

I completely forgot to vote for Beavers! But I'm enjoying the countdown. Thanks, sic!

i always get around 10-20 into Beavers before turning it off - only because i forget i want to watch it with my kids so we all get to enjoy the experience

I liked Kneecap, it has a lot going on in multiple ways.

have not seen Janet Planet for reasonable reasons but from the imdb shots i'm guessing this will break me.

Janet Planet was terrific, in my top 15. Rebel Ridge had a good lead performance and a terrific supporting one by Don Johnson.

Janet Planet I thought would be cornball indie tedium from the misleading trailer, it is a long way from that in reality.

I liked it pretty well — I guess not quite enough to vote for it. Made for a timely pairing with The Substance.

I'll be honest, until near the end I thought I was watching Adam Pearson when I was actually watching Sebastian Stan in Adam Pearson makeup. One of those films with greater promise than delivery, 3.5/5.

Really enjoyed Queer, tho the Ayahuasca sequence pushed it toward Fear and Loathing territory. I thought Juror #2 was ok, a decent take on old-fashioned courtroom thrillers.

so a film could theoretically get in at the top of one voter's list and the bottom of another's with 36 points. lowest score from two votes this year was 28, lowest from three was 33.

I should have seen Dykes by now, if only for the Coen-ness. Maybe I'll try later. it's not the most fruitful way to approach it (unless "I wish they'd never moved away from goofy cheap crime caper comedies after Raising Arizona" is a factor, in which case hurry up!) - but a silly season relax-o-view is probably ideal. and the second lead is Antipodean!

no, things placing twice is not a problem! (and is fun as long as I do remember to check and note their previous scores) - year of impact is real, and international release dates are even realer. but a big part of "vote in the year you saw it" was to AVOID tedious vote-policing and even more tedious in-thread-arguing...

and people outsourcing their entire recollection to a functionally incorrect date on a database recently purchased by venture capital appears to require new policing (due to clear pollution of the dataset, despite it being set as broadly as possible). sucks, but at least two of the three are inarguable this year. Beavers I might just be personally affectionate for.

the dinner scene in Between the Temples... thought my friend was going to sink into his seat and disappear forever

also voted Queer. ended up seeing it a second time, and though it has problems i almost convinced myself it's great. the score is incredible, brings to mind Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence, and Piazzolla in Happy Together.

It's weird how little I remember of Kinds Of Kindness some 18 months on. None of the segments seem to have lodged in my brain at all. Might have another look.

I see what you mean about Drive-Away, sic! But, yeah, there are definitely worse ways to spend ~90 minutes. :)

Well done! This film annoyed me, over two and a half hours of what seemed like leftover ideas warmed back up. An hour shorter and it would have been more tolerable. Also Jesse Plemons looks weird. Good Dio joke though.
