I love this polls, never stop

voting for Moana remake, which sounds soul-destroying

vague facial gymnastics (sleeve), Friday, 9 January 2026 01:01 (four months ago)

"these polls" sry

vague facial gymnastics (sleeve), Friday, 9 January 2026 01:01 (four months ago)

I also voted Moana. It seemed for a moment that the failure of last year's Snow White was finally gonna kill these films dead, but then Lilo & Stitch had to go and be a goddamned hit.

I confess I have never heard of the original Greenland or I Can Only Imagine films.

the social reckoning is the only one that made me flinch

Youngblood [remake of the 1986 Rob Lowe film]. why?

ICE = Tonton Macoute (Boring, Maryland), Friday, 9 January 2026 02:01 (four months ago)

For some reason this list seems short.

Air Bud Returns is an upcoming American sports comedy-drama film written and directed by Robert Vince. It is the 15th film in the Air Bud series, and the first to be released theatrically since 1997.

Oh my gosh - they’re remaking the bomb Cliffhanger?! - easy vote here.

BlackIronPrison, Friday, 9 January 2026 02:19 (four months ago)

Isn't there a live action Legend of Zelda movie on the way?

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 9 January 2026 02:21 (four months ago)

yes but not this year

ciderpress, Friday, 9 January 2026 02:22 (four months ago)

As usual, I sourced this from Wikipedia's list of films scheduled for release during the year.

cryptosicko, Friday, 9 January 2026 02:44 (four months ago)

Oh my gosh - they’re remaking the bomb Cliffhanger?! - easy vote here.

Cliffhanger was the 7th highest grossing film of 1993!

cryptosicko, Friday, 9 January 2026 02:45 (four months ago)

28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, so sick of this tedious series, can they do a 28 Decades Later next and set it on a generation starship or something?

I walked with a nimby (Matt #2), Friday, 9 January 2026 02:53 (four months ago)

If you saw 28 Years Later and thought “oh god not YET ANOTHER of these SO SOON” instead of “fuck yeeeeeahh this rips” then it’s probably on you for buying the ticket

Looking forward to five of these, extremely looking fwd to three of those

Super Mario Galaxy seems like the worst time, Devil Wears Prada 2 has some juice too tho just due to the original so clearly being a film that does not demand a sequel.

Doubt we'll get a second instance of the poll winner turning out to be one of the most enjoyable films of the year like last time but fwiw Coyote vs Acme is supposed to be very good.

Hard to overstate what a complete clusterfuck the entire production of Scream 7 has been, particularly after two well-regarded entries.

Usually it’s easy to make a choice in these polls, but there are like 5-7 things I’d vote for here

Actually looking forward to The Chronicles of Gerwig for some reason

Clever Message Board User Name (Raymond Cummings), Friday, 9 January 2026 16:02 (four months ago)

It and Toy Story 5 are the ones I'm most likely to check out, if any.

cryptosicko, Friday, 9 January 2026 16:05 (four months ago)

Jackass 5 is a terrible idea, money aside, why do it

Also, Focker In-Law? Why would Stiller even agree to that at this point in his career, given how much he hates being “the funny Ben Stiller Character”?!

The Social Reckonig should’ve been done a few years ago if it were gonna happen with Fincher directing

Clever Message Board User Name (Raymond Cummings), Friday, 9 January 2026 16:09 (four months ago)

Also — this is the FIFTH Fockers film?!

Clever Message Board User Name (Raymond Cummings), Friday, 9 January 2026 16:12 (four months ago)

Disney really have to stop it with these live action remakes, they felt like a good idea for about six months around 2010 and never before or since. Hope this is just a question of something being in the pipeline so long they felt obliged to release it.

Dance Yourself Dizzy To The Music of Time (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Friday, 9 January 2026 16:18 (four months ago)

how much he hates being “the funny Ben Stiller Character”

When was the last time he was funny? "Tropic Thunder"?

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 9 January 2026 16:19 (four months ago)

No Dustin Hoffman OR Barbra Streisand in the new Fockers film, astonishingly they were in the previous one (TIL)

Dance Yourself Dizzy To The Music of Time (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Friday, 9 January 2026 16:22 (four months ago)

The Disney live action remakes were never a good idea. Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland somehow made a shitload in 2010, and it set the studio on this horrible path.

cryptosicko, Friday, 9 January 2026 16:24 (four months ago)

Went to the movie theater right before christmas with my daughters and saw the trailer for Super Mario Galaxy and immediately afterward my 10 year old daughter said "we are going to see that", so I guess I'll be going to that one. Other than that I am almost certainly going to see Dune. The rest I either don't know anything about or don't care about.

I think I've generally voted for a live action remake in these polls so will continue to do that here as I can't imagine the Moana live-action movie being anything except terrible. Like, at least when making an unnecessary sequel, you are at least trying to do something new, even if with an existing set of characters/setting/premise.

silverfish, Friday, 9 January 2026 16:25 (four months ago)

I didn't even realize there was a second Angry Birds movie, let alone any kind of clamoring for a third entry.

better than ezra collective soul asylum (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Friday, 9 January 2026 16:26 (four months ago)

I thought the Disney live-action films were something to do with extending copyright? Is that just an incorrect factoid I picked up online?

Doubt we'll get a second instance of the poll winner turning out to be one of the most enjoyable films of the year like last time but fwiw Coyote vs Acme is supposed to be very good.

― a ZX spectrum is haunting Europe (Daniel_Rf)

Is this from the same team that did the Looney Tunes film last year? That was supposed to be good too (not seen it, can't confirm).

emil.y, Friday, 9 January 2026 16:36 (four months ago)

I don't think so, this one has had a really long, convoluted journey to screen.

Super Mario Galaxy

The last time I visited my sister (who has two young boys) she had really positive things to say about the first one. I watched a chunk of it and was reminded that when you have small kids your standards really sink.

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 9 January 2026 16:39 (four months ago)

Jackass 5

Aren't a couple of these guys dead? And don't some of the others walk with canes at this point? This feels like it has the potential to be more depressing than funny.

Instead of create and send out, it pull back and consume (unperson), Friday, 9 January 2026 16:41 (four months ago)

It's never something I would have watched by myself, but the first Mario movie was a lot of fun in a movie theater with a mix of young kids and video game nerds

xp

silverfish, Friday, 9 January 2026 16:42 (four months ago)

Unperson: EXACTLY

Like, will someone die on camera in that movie?

Clever Message Board User Name (Raymond Cummings), Friday, 9 January 2026 16:43 (four months ago)

There was an article I saw the other day about how Bam Margera was going to be in Jackass 5 but via archival footage, so I wonder if it'll largely be archival shit mixed with more prank style stuff like the old guy makeup than the dangerous stunt shit.

better than ezra collective soul asylum (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Friday, 9 January 2026 16:44 (four months ago)

Jackass 5 is a terrible idea, money aside, why do it

Jackass Forever was the first Jackass thing I saw, and it was great. They probably thought another one might also turn out great. That seems a much better idea than the motivation behind most of the list.

Many XPs

Speaking of Fincher, I guess it wasn't included because nobody would vote for it (or is it not slated for '26?), but The Adventures of Cliff Booth?

After having looked it up, I voted for I Can Only Imagine 2, which is a sequel to a biopic about some Christian rock musician. I am a trash baby who will watch all kind of garbage, but I just cannot with the modern Christo-fascist propaganda machine.

Judi Dench's Human Hand (methanietanner), Friday, 9 January 2026 17:11 (four months ago)

Super Troopers 3 because the 2nd one was so dire.

the line they had to straddle to make the first one funny was thin and they veered into mega annoying by the sequel

cryptosicko, Friday, 9 January 2026 17:15 (four months ago)

Johnny Knoxville has said that if they ever did another movie (I guess that would be this one) he and some of the OGs would be stepping back more and letting younger people take the hits (which iirc they did with the last one, too). The only dead Jackass iirc is Ryan Dunn; Bam was fired from the last one because he broke the sobriety clause, and won't be filming this one, either.

sic, if you haven't yet you should really check out the others!

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 9 January 2026 18:06 (four months ago)

I thought the Disney live-action films were something to do with extending copyright?
In Japan it is not unusual for an animated movie (which likely originated as a manga) to get retold as a live-action tv series and, if popular enough, a live-action movie.

Kim Kimberly, Friday, 9 January 2026 18:07 (four months ago)

Don’t know if you are American but our theaters get cluttered by Christian/Inspirational shit that show for only a week or even one night that no normal person will hear about.

I feel a bit "What's the point" if Sony can play us by putting out Anaconda in Dec 2025 for awards season.

Andrew Farrell, Monday, 12 January 2026 00:21 (four months ago)

I suspect we're all sleeping on Resident Evil, a film by the writer/director of Barbarian and Weapons - it seems to be, if not a passion project, then one that he's coming to from the point of view of being a fan of the games - he's announced that it will not feature any characters from the games, since their stories are already told. With some decent push and pull between him and the studio, I'd say they have a chance to make something totally fucking unwatchable.

Andrew Farrell, Monday, 12 January 2026 00:36 (four months ago)

I'm asking myself which one is the last one I'd watch if stuck with just these movies, and I think it's Jumanji.

Wondering if some wiseacre has ever suggested to Tyler Perry that he direct an Aerosmith doc - perhaps the making of "Honkin' on Bobo"?

Bailed on 28 Years Later halfway tonight - very dumb and hated the attempts at aping the MiniDV shakycam of the first. Bone Temple should be the name of a barbecue rib joint.

Lady Sovereign (Citizen) (milo z), Thursday, 15 January 2026 07:52 (three months ago)

28 Days Later was on TV last night and struck me that the MiniDV look just felt like a poor choice, here you have deserted London streets at sunset, or an empty motorway with Manchester burning in the distance and they just looked crap, at least in Blair Witch there's a diegetic reason for the choice.

Dance Yourself Dizzy To The Music of Time (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Thursday, 15 January 2026 08:55 (three months ago)

Actually looking forward to the Jumanji sequel. The first two were good fun, not least Karen Gilllan as the nerd turned Lara Croft character.

The shitheads get angry at every new franchise release as a matter of course if it has even the slighest most cursory nod towards inclusion. It's a cottage industry and at this point kinda symbiotic with the major studios.

a ZX spectrum is haunting Europe (Daniel_Rf), Friday, 23 January 2026 13:39 (three months ago)

It just feels so extra dense, because the character's name is literally a pronoun, which I thought was the joke.

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 23 January 2026 13:44 (three months ago)

It’s 100% the joke

Walter Chaw on Scream 7:

Past the point of developing characters and themes, Williamson engages in late-sitcom desperation as guest stars show up (there’s Officer Dewey–OR IS IT? GENERATIVE A.I. IS THE REAL VILLAIN HERE EVERYBODY! LOOK AT HOW CURRENT I AM! There’s Debbie Salt! There’s Roman Bridger!) to be trainspotted by dorks showing off for their next ex-girlfriends.

I found it somewhat reassuring that everyone I know that saw the Super Mario Galaxy movie, parents and kids alike, did not like it.

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 28 April 2026 14:45 (two weeks ago)

My feeling is that these movies make money whether anyone likes them or not.

cryptosicko, Tuesday, 28 April 2026 15:09 (two weeks ago)

I know plenty of people who are frequently like "i saw the new [whatever] movie, lol it sucked" and they knew it was gonna suck and yet that's how they invest their time and ok, fair enough, all is futility, what you gonna do?

Curiosity is a helluva drug maybe idk

einmal ist keinmal (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 28 April 2026 15:12 (two weeks ago)

It drives me nuts, actually. We all have access to the proverbial global jukebox of film, music and television, but I know so many who just watch or listen to whatever random shit. I get that it can be overwhelming, but it's not that difficult to whittle down the infinite options to at least stuff that is well-regarded.
