“R” is for Rocket’s “R is for Rocket”

Kind of a Big Country situation here: my favourite track on Rocket’s debut album from late last year is the final and title track “R is for Rocket” - an extremely recognisable rock album “closer” with extended instrumental passages of gratuitous riffing which presumably doubles as a kind of theme song or statement of purpose.

What is Rocket’s deal? I described this album to ivy as like Paramore crossed with Veruca Salt, but that’s not quite right. I also said it was like if Billy Corgan had joined Melissa Auf der Mar’s band in the late nineties rather than the other way around, but that’s not quite right either.

But mabe if you hold those two thoughts in your head and add “a melodic sensibility that is occasionally reminiscent of Soccer Mommy”, the truth may be lurking somewhere in there - feel free to scold me and offer better points of comparison.
