Harry Hill: c/d

His quote about Dr. Zhivago "it's back and it's raunchy" has redeemed TV Burp completely for me.

I have heard terrible stories about Harry Hill being booed off-stage several times. Which just isn't fair.

I expected to hate TV Burp, but once I'd gotten over my ITV prejudice, I laughed me eyeliner off.

I think he's quite handsome as well.

One of the most entertaining stand ups for me. Haven't seen TV Burp but the Harry Hill Show was ace, especially when they showed it in the early evenings around the same time Cilla comes on. IT was like watching primetime light entertainment whilst tripping on angel dust. Really great fun.

TV Burp is disappointing when compared to his show proper, but it's still very funny, and it's great to see him TV again. shame there's no Stouffer though :(

I think doglatin's reference to light entertainment is pertinent. HH is odd when compared to Cilla or Des, but I see him as a light entertainer in the Cooper/Morecambe mould (though not in that class, at least so far) rather than an alternative comic of the sort who is unlikely to stray into primetime ITV/BBC1 slots. I'm a fan.

I like it. It makes me laugh.

Martin, the format is very Tommy Cooper but the jokes certainly aren't. It's similar to the Reeves & Mortimer talking bullshit style of comedy, but i think it's less forced and more off the cuff than they do it.

dog latin (dog latin), Saturday, 30 November 2002 16:36 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm not trying to overdo the comparison to Tommy Cooper or Eric Morecambe - I don't think they're that similar to each other, or to HH. I just mean that I think that's the territory where he will find his natural home, not at 11pm on Channel 4, say.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 30 November 2002 16:38 (twenty-three years ago)

mmmmm. Yeah, I guess so - I think he'd be equally happy on both. I'm sure his style of humour would go down better with a spliff and a bevvy though.

Last night's re-enacment of the Crocodile Hunter Diaries with a Nazi and Roy Walker may be the funniest thing on TV this year.

It is classic, but with enough dud in it for it to get on ITV.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 6 December 2002 14:26 (twenty-three years ago)

You can spot the bits ITV joke-writers inserted a mile off ("Mein Camp more like!"), but slowly, slowly, he's starting to turn it back round to how he used to be. How many weeks before the return of Burt Kwouk?

Classic, by the way.

One of Stouffer's catchphrases got in this week. It was really fucking good, as was the Soprano's which I haven't watched before. Hazel is a rub singer.

Graham (graham), Friday, 6 December 2002 14:53 (twenty-three years ago)

That Sopranos episode is usually recognized as the greatest one ever. I just sat raptured for 60 minutes. "Try it with the relish".

two months pass...
The new show - yip or nip?

naked as sin (naked as sin), Monday, 10 February 2003 03:45 (twenty-three years ago)

I missed it.

Graham (graham), Monday, 10 February 2003 12:41 (twenty-three years ago)

Yip, definitely. Especially the first five minutes, where I was nearly choking I was laughing so much. Camilla Parker-Bowles beating up a cow was a particular highlight.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Monday, 10 February 2003 14:41 (twenty-three years ago)

There is still no Burt Kwouk. But yes, it was rather good, wasn't it? Even if he is groundsharing with Family Fortunes and Catchphrase.

You greedy, greedy man!

Of course if your name IS Geoff and you're thinking of going into the business of selling capes...

dog latin (dog latin), Saturday, 16 July 2005 13:40 (twenty years ago)

TV Burp is the funniest programme ever. Can we have it back now please?
