Vote For Your Favourite Made-Up Funny Name (FINAL ROUND)

As previously mentioned, Stevie D. and I have had a Facebook thread of "made-up funny names" that's been going strong for ten years. I sorted through the 1000+ submitted names and distilled them to a list of a hundred. After a round of voting, I've compiled all the names that received two or more votes. Vote now, please, for your favourite.

The author of the winning entry receives a $50 gift certificate to Red Lobster.

Culling these names was painful, having to vaporise long-time funnily-named friends like Barn Doris, Doily Partner, Easter Scienceclass, Green Gartfunkel, Threnody Love Hewitt, and Dippy Breedhole. I hope that the survivors listed here provide you with some small dopamine blips to brighten your day. Please indulge our sophomoric sense of humour and vote for your favourite.

Ron Toronto, but Northpark Babbages just led me down an interesting Wikipedia rabbit hole.

Also, how the hell did I miss the first 4 threads? I'm all about weird fake names.

peace, man, Wednesday, 25 March 2026 18:00 (one week ago)

Most of them are just garbles that are fun to say, like Slartibartfast in Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, but only a handful feel like there could conceivably be someone by that name out in the world somewhere. Of those, Lachlan Brownwind hits right for me.

more difficult than I look (Aimless), Wednesday, 25 March 2026 19:03 (one week ago)

My preference is just for effective combinations of phonemes and meanings-- especially malapropisms of Greek, Romantic and Germanic pronunciations of spelling. I'd love to name an imaginary child Peneloupe Cantalope (pronounced PEN-eh-lohp can-TA-loh-pee), for example; I'm a Tom Robbins lover, at heart. (My favourite of my own submissions in this regard was Purity Bjoris, idk why but I love that name). A lot of submissions followed the "Moe's Tavern" format (Ben Dover) and those don't make me laugh. Manglings of real names-- Doily Partner, Burton Cum (feat. Randy Man)-- they make me laugh when done well.

I think my favourite bit was the Freddie Mercury digression where a working-class given name was pared with the name of an element. Julio Uranium. Dick Nickel. Unfortunately they didn't get voted for.

Doug Lead was another in that thread. Lol

That's a shame. My favorites that I've come up with are Hugh Minears and Herb Anana.

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

Can't believe I burned those names for an ILE thread. I knew they wouldn't be appreciated here. Nonetheless, I offer another favorite, although in a slightly different formulation:

Lew Miserables

Carl Oof is brilliant

Jonk Raven (dog latin), Tuesday, 31 March 2026 12:19 (two days ago)

Man, I find Larry Gaga so stupidly funny.

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 31 March 2026 12:36 (two days ago)

Carl Oof and Larry Gaga are two that I'm pretty sure I voted for in previous rounds, so I'm glad to see they made it to the finals

Tell me who sends these infamous .gifs (bernard snowy), Tuesday, 31 March 2026 14:08 (two days ago)

Yeah Larry Gaga my choice here.

paper plans (tipsy mothra), Tuesday, 31 March 2026 14:11 (two days ago)

A very Tonetta coded name

Idk if I voted yet! I’ve kept track of who came up with what and I won’t vote for my own submissions. These names always make me laugh

It looks like Timothy Tiffany’s slightly outnumber Tiffany Timothy’s on LinkedIn.

o. nate, Wednesday, 1 April 2026 20:18 (yesterday)

Ron Toronto definitely sounds like a Nick Offerman character

Larry Gaga just reminds me of Tonetta's immortal track, "Lady Gaga"

The Boron brothers. Paul Boron and Donny Boron.
