...or would that get this board in trouble?

Mac Fleetwood, Friday, 29 November 2002 18:24 (twenty-three years ago)

Watch out there maybe Lawyers about ! Apparently Beckham has appointed Lawyers to clamp down on those that spread the defamation via web and e-mail.

Considering as ILXOR gets indexed by google regularly - beware !

Not even a wee hint, then?

If that's true...

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 29 November 2002 20:03 (twenty-three years ago)

I haven't found a single thing on the google except people asking what the rumour is and beckham denying it. Sheesh... is this how fremme neppe venette got started?

kate, Friday, 29 November 2002 21:20 (twenty-three years ago)

If you play "fremme neppe venette" backwards, it says "retsis s'newo laehcim".

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 29 November 2002 21:25 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh, how fucking DULL. Is that IT?!?!? Then again, I suppose a man who will admit in public that he wears his wife's panties, I mean, what else does he really have left to get uptight about? Sigh...

kate, Friday, 29 November 2002 21:28 (twenty-three years ago)

Michael Jackson fucks chimps.

Allegedly.

artistformerlyknownaspl...y (artistformerlyknownaspl...y), Saturday, 30 November 2002 00:12 (twenty-three years ago)

Dom, that was very well said.

suzy (suzy), Saturday, 30 November 2002 01:11 (twenty-three years ago)

Dom, that was very well said.

AFKAP - salut!

suzy (suzy), Saturday, 30 November 2002 01:12 (twenty-three years ago)

'course, it doesn't really count as defamation when it's stuff like reporting a court case or publishing info that you youself supplied, TAFKAP.

Kerplunk, Saturday, 30 November 2002 09:48 (twenty-three years ago)

Well, the answer to that lies in the context in which the info was presented, Kraplunk. For example, you might be welcome in clubs, bars, offices, libraries, and the homes and lives of your loved ones, because I'm sure you're not the kind of person who goes out of their way to make others feel like shit in those places. However in the context of ilx, you are a munter and a half and many here cannot wait to see the back of you.

If, as I suspect, you are a tabloid reporter, there are about half a dozen people posting on this board - naming no names, of course - who could happily take the full record of your continued harrassment of (insert relevant name here) well over your head to your editor, in a professional capacity. I would never dream of telling you how to do your job, but on reflection I feel your work is done here and any further correspondence might impact badly on your long-term prospects.

(Sorry everybody, I just couldn't allow this to carry on any longer)

suzy (suzy), Saturday, 30 November 2002 10:44 (twenty-three years ago)

Why would a tabloid reporter be hanging out on ILE trying to provoke someone involved in yesterday's news? It doesn't sound very likely to me.

N. (nickdastoor), Saturday, 30 November 2002 12:30 (twenty-three years ago)

Not yesterdays news, tomorrows. N*ws of the W*rld. I'm guesing that aint the end either. Cheers Suzy

AFKAP, Saturday, 30 November 2002 14:43 (twenty-three years ago)

T'is defamation when, for example, you accuse somebody of having an affair, or leaving their wife when they weren't and they didn't - no?

justwondering, Saturday, 30 November 2002 14:51 (twenty-three years ago)

It is, but you'd have to prove them wrong, which is difficult, and show that it harmed the perception of his character. Given the jail sentence for distributing racist literature, I don't think claiming defamation over an alleged affair would fly.

I'm sorry if that sounds unsympathetic, because I'm very much on our friend P's side here (while reserving judgement about the boyf's reform). Whether this annoying troll is the same journalist I have no idea, but that's beside the point: I don't see that P has done anything at all morally wrong (whether P is right about the reform is an issue of accuracy of judgement, not morality), and deserves none of the harassment.

Don't be ridiculous. Firstly there's no proof this poster is a journalist or anyone in particular. The posts are anonymous and, according to Graham, were tracing back to an anonymising service. Secondly tabloid editors sanction far worse activities by their staff than a few mildly insinuating posts on an MB (short for message board - use of this abbreviation is a sign of being net savvy). As N. says, this is yesterday's news (and it was never a story in the first place south of the border so I can't see the News of the World being interested).

David (David), Saturday, 30 November 2002 17:06 (twenty-three years ago)

the rumour is thus: david in order to impress posh dressed in a spiderman's outfit and danced to 'the greatest love of all'

doom-e, Saturday, 30 November 2002 17:17 (twenty-three years ago)

Doom-e is suddenly my favourite poster in the whole wide world.

[on a point of order, David, the News of the World has a Scottish edition]

N. (nickdastoor), Saturday, 30 November 2002 17:20 (twenty-three years ago)

I thought it was P telling us that there was to be something in the NotW tomorrow. I thought she knew this, not that she was just guessing that there might be. I don't know what it might be.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 30 November 2002 17:31 (twenty-three years ago)

the News of the World has a Scottish edition

Fair enough, I didn't realise that. Nevertheless to run a story on this they'd need something substantially more than a rehash of what the Daily Record have already published, wouldn't they?
