I'm off.

As of Monday morning, a bit less than 48 hours away for me, I'll be embarking on an 8-month journey that will span 3 continents. This means that I won't really be able to visit ILx anymore. I'm not sure that I've actually made any impact on this board, but it's a little sad that I have to leave.

For those of you who are interested, my itinerary:

  • Chile (Santiago, Antofagasta, Puerto Mont) - 20 days.
  • Argentina (Buenos Aires) - 4 days.
  • France (Paris, possibly Tolouse and other places) - 11 days.
  • Italy (Florence, Rome, possibly Milan) - 10 days.
  • Spain (Madrid (principally), Barcelona, and others) - 5 months.
  • Portugal (in the middle of the above period) - 2 weeks.
  • Germany (Berlin, and undecided others) - 10 days.
  • England (London) - 3 days. (FAP!)
  • China (Beijing, Xian, Shanghai, Hong Kong) - 2 weeks.
  • Japan (Osaka, Tokyo) - 1 week.
  • Indonesia (Bali) - 4 days. (to unwind)

I'm taking my girlfriend for the most part, but she'll be staying in Barcelona while I'm in Madrid. (this is so we can both learn Spanish properly - she's advanced enough to cope with Catalan whereas I'm a complete beginner)

So, yeah, I'm going to miss you guys. *sniff*

We'll miss you too, Andrew - we all worship you for server provision, besides everything else. I'll buy you a drink or two in London - do get in touch so that we can have a FAP in your honour.

Tom (Groke), Saturday, 30 November 2002 00:59 (twenty-three years ago)

Definitely treat Andrew to anything and everything should you encounter him on his travels! He's a smart, funny gent and a half and meeting him was one of the many highlights of my trip to Australia. Best of luck and keep in touch! Try and sneak in a quick American visit if you can! ;-)

be careful in bali - they sacrifice animals to mourn the dead.

be careful in buenos aires - they sacrifice animals to feed themselves.

Have a yahoo seriously good time Andrew. So many exciting tales await!

N. (nickdastoor), Saturday, 30 November 2002 13:19 (twenty-three years ago)

A 'yahoo serious good time'? - I've been prompted to stare at my monitor before but not goggle.

You are a lucky bastard. Take care, Andrew.

dwh (dwh), Saturday, 30 November 2002 13:28 (twenty-three years ago)

Nah, venice is best when its seriously cold

Ed (dali), Saturday, 30 November 2002 13:40 (twenty-three years ago)

So you can skate on the canals?

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 30 November 2002 13:56 (twenty-three years ago)

Ed, the coldest I have ever been in my entire life was in Venice.

(well maybe this is an exageration, but I wouldn't call that kind of cold a good thing, and I'm generally happier in colder climes)

Anna (Anna), Saturday, 30 November 2002 15:17 (twenty-three years ago)

Have a good trip!! Make sure you post pictures, coz reality internet was cool!! See ya!

jel -- (jel), Saturday, 30 November 2002 16:21 (twenty-three years ago)

i hate europeans bitching about the cold, have you seen inuvik wimps?

anthony easton (anthony), Saturday, 30 November 2002 20:59 (twenty-three years ago)

Anthony - I was sitting on a river taxi with only fisnets and peep-toe fucsha shoes on my feet. I couldn't move my toes for half an hour afterwards.

Yes, I am a wimp. I am also an impractical wimp who thinks British phlegm will get her through the cold in impractical clothing.

But you can at least give me style points?

Anna (Anna), Saturday, 30 November 2002 23:17 (twenty-three years ago)

ach, they're just nesh Anthony

RickyT (RickyT), Saturday, 30 November 2002 23:18 (twenty-three years ago)

taking sides: British phelgm vs everyone else's phlegm

(clue: ours is not green )

mark s (mark s), Saturday, 30 November 2002 23:20 (twenty-three years ago)

gareth (gareth), Sunday, 1 December 2002 04:30 (twenty-three years ago)

i owe you a pint (or should we trade it for some tapas) for hosting this board!
