Late Night Poker

Well, that's another series over. I take it you all watched intently. My two faves, Jin Cai Lin and Lucy Rokach made it to the final three, but Peter "The Silver Fox" Costa triumphed. The bastard. How can you beat Lin? He never exhales, for a start.

Anyway, discuss the greatest show in TV history here...

apparently the next series is the last :(((((((((

i do a GRATE jessie mae impression, no really...

that poker club documentary last night was absolutely *pitiful* btw, i don't think the woman who made it had any idea about the poker thing, like, "oh no there are slightly odd single blokes (eg jac arama) and when the go to moscow to play poker they get PROSTITUTES etc, v poor.

It's back. On C4. Now. Sort of. In the form of Late Night Poker Ace, consisting entirely of amateur players who qualified off A Certain Poker Website.

Good ol' Jesse 'Cash Me In' May is back on commentary, except now paired with Simon 'Aces' Trumper instead of Barny Boatman. They appear to be doing that whole thing of showing all the hands, though, which is a key factor in making poker on the telly A Bit Rub. Jesse's presence counts for an awful lot, though.

Mark C should note one of these people is an AFCW fan.

Already this is showing why LNP is superior to every other poker-based telly programme ever - the silence! The silence in LNP is brilliant, it just lets everything else work, lets the tension become unbearable, which is only heightened by the sudden shifts in excitement of the commentators... Jesse May's world of imperceptible terminology (already this evening we've had "75 quidaroos", and the greeting of an ace-queen with "Hellooo darlin'") is in a whole wide world of its own. The way it keeps up with the action and in some ways is the action is quite amazing. Every card feels like a penalty shootout all on its own...

Like it's never been gone. Marvellous.

"If he hits a run of cards, it'll be like Attila the Hun rampaging through Georgia."

"He will get a rousing cheer in... Tamworth..."

Aww, missed it.

But 'Oz' is on in 40 minutes. Result! Thanks, online TV guide.

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Wednesday, 31 August 2005 00:25 (twenty years ago)

now how is it that "man bags" gets hit with poker spam on a near hourly basis and meanwhile this thread is gagging for it?

Kim (Kim), Wednesday, 31 August 2005 00:52 (twenty years ago)

I saw it last night and the shock of ACTUALLY SEEING JESSE MAE almost killed me. It did seem slightly cheaper...

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 31 August 2005 08:25 (twenty years ago)

I've this odd feeling it shared the same studio as All-Star Poker Challenge, just with slightly different decorations and slightly better camera angles. The whole 'showing every hand' thing was annoying - I remember the original LNP didn't do that, it would sometimes only show one hand, leaving the viewer to guess along with the player as to what to do next.

Still - "75 quidaroos." Can't go hatin' on that.

I am addicted to the Texas HoldEm Poker app on Facebook

Elvis Telecom, Thursday, 8 November 2007 08:51 (eighteen years ago)

So am I. I had an amazing couple of hands yesterday, and now I'm a 3-star "Poker Pro"

nate woolls, Thursday, 8 November 2007 08:58 (eighteen years ago)

Me too! Except knowing that I get 100 points each day has made me a bit too call-happy.

Pleasant Plains, Thursday, 8 November 2007 13:15 (eighteen years ago)

You guys are all playing in the ilxor tournament at full tilt this sunday, right?

Mark C, Thursday, 8 November 2007 14:07 (eighteen years ago)

What's Full Tilt? I thought there was a tournament going on at Poker Stars.

nate woolls, Thursday, 8 November 2007 14:29 (eighteen years ago)

I'm still not sold on actual online gambling.

Pleasant Plains, Thursday, 8 November 2007 15:31 (eighteen years ago)

Poker stars is not mac compatible apparently. So that'll be three different poker apps installed on my system. Probably end up with $50 hanging around unused and forgotten in each one.

ledge, Thursday, 8 November 2007 15:35 (eighteen years ago)

I'm on a Mac, too. Poker sites and most ftp's, out of my reach.

Pleasant Plains, Thursday, 8 November 2007 15:43 (eighteen years ago)

Full Tilt is fine on Mac

caek, Thursday, 8 November 2007 15:50 (eighteen years ago)

I won my first facebook tourney. Even though it's play money people have some pretty weird strategies.

ledge, Thursday, 8 November 2007 21:05 (eighteen years ago)

nate, we planned a Stars tourney last weekend but not enough people were keen. So we've got one planned at Full Tilt for 4pm ET (9pm GMT) this Sunday - in the private tourneys section of Full Tilt, called ILXor Poker Showdown, costs $5.50 and the password is nabisco.
