Dirty Sodas

It's weird to me that this is a thing because ... we have lots of flavored/syruped sodas already? And we have ice cream floats? And Italian sodas? I don't feel like anything is really being invented here. A zillion kids have filled Big Gulp cups at the Quickie Mart with every flavor in the dispenser.

But also I guess it's the least objectionable thing about Mormon culture to penetrate the mainstream.

I've never tried one from an official dirty soda retailer. When I was younger, I had a brief phase of mixing Coca-Cola with milk (and sometimes, chocolate syrup), which seems similar. Would definitely try one, if there were a dirty soda shop near me, but I don't drink soda very often these days.

I actually thought these had run their course, it was felt like it peaked summer before last but seems like they are making a coming back based on nothing other then when I got home last night & opened the fridge and there was carton of "birthday cake" flavored coffee creamer and my child came running to explain it was for dirty sodas when I loudly said "what the fuck?"

Also, calling it "Dirty Soda" and not having cognac or codeine feels like false advertising

That's the whole Mormon part of it, right? They can't have alcohol or caffeine, so they make these fat-and-sugar laden drinks and call them "dirty" to give themselves a frisson of sin.

Mormons need to come up with their own word like "silly" or "sassy" leave dirty to us degenerates

I had one of these for the first time the other day - it was a can of Sprite and two different berry-flavored syrups in a 24 ounce cup. Sent my blood sugar through the roof, but it tasted... OK.

would rather die than have one of these. one thing (among many obviously) that really pisses me off about mormonism is its adamant ban on caffeine, a stimulant that is quite safe when used in moderation, while the sweeteners in soda are literal fucking poison that makes human bodies worse in all respects.

the alcohol ban is a little more in line with modern nutritional science, but a stopped clock etc.

Yes, sodas can be mixed with real milk / cream / egg in a controlled setting but look what happens when you put both lemon and cream into tea - instacurdling, gross. And soda fountain hoses are already known to be gross af.

As an immunosuppressed transplant recipient I am not sure I trust a convenience store or movie theater or fast food joint with safe handling of perishables.

The -mate creamer stuff always just tastes like chemicals and oil to me so Imma pass.
