a thread for when you want to buy something simple or frivolous and our glorious world system of unprecedented wealth and luxury is letting you down

So basically it's payday and I would really like to get battered cod roe and chips for tea tonight but is there anywhere around here I can get it? Is there fuck. And I ask myself what's the point of a society where I can't get myself something as simple and delicious as battered cod roe and chips when the fancy takes me

NB I mean from a proper chip shop, "we've got that at home" freaks of ilx

And it occurs to me these painful but minor absences are a reasonably regular part of how we live

Maybe it's closer to enshittification, but the fact that computers are now sold without their charger (in itself a good thing), so now you need to shop separately for the right charger. And not only websites are not organized to indicate clearly the best option, but the charger is now sold in two parts: the cable and the power unit. My company had to order them in bulk, and realized that fact afterwards. A colleague ordered a PC and the shop assured her that the charger was included (it wasn't). I had to order one today, and I can't be 100% sure everything is right. We do this for migrants who have to start schools and trainings in August - September and who could do without added uncertainty or fuck-ups (and ditto for us).

I have loads of clothes with rips or tears which could be easily fixed by a competent person with a sewing machine, but I do not know a competent person with a sewing machine, and the only places that will do this will charge me at least £30 for literally two minutes work.

"video unavailable" seems like a micro-failure of the market lol

The pub next door to work that i visit maybe once a month refusing to have an ice machine feels like a macro-failure tbh

I have my phone VPN set to Canada (actual location = USA) and I was shocked to discover recently that Canadian Amazon, while just as full of disposable Chinese dropshippery, displays its search results prominently tagged "Plastic", "Metal", etc. When you search for the same items on US Amazon, you have to open the page for the individual item, scroll down a full screen or more, and hit "Product specs" just to see what it's made of. Usually it's easier/faster to filter for negative reviews and look for someone saying "This looked like solid wood on the listing but it's actually particleboard with a couple wood accents" or w/e. Consumer society here is so cooked.

I have a pipe and would like to buy a pouch of old-school pipe tobacco. There are 'smoke' shops on every street but they don't carry this.

There is a specialized tobacco shop in town that sells cigars & pipe tobacco, but they have erratic hours and are known for being pretentious assholes. Feels like I used to see pipe tobacco in drug stores and the like, but those days are over
