"a daguerreotype of god": CIEN AÑOS DE SOLEDAD on netflix

i've had a battered paperback copy of the marquez novel since the mid-80s and till i started watching this fondly assumed i'd actually once read it -- and merely forgotten everything in it except its much-quoted opening sentence. (i'm old: ive forgotten loads of things)

anyway since i began watching this series a couple weeks back -- pushed at me by the alg since s2 dropped -- i'm less certain i did ever read it.

it is very watchable! is it true to the book? i do not feel competent to judge (nor do i care especially)

i just reached the carnival ep, which starts whimsical ("the aurelianos left en masse”) and ends somewhat less so :(

things i dislike a bit: there seems to be a kind of mild sepia cast over the colour? maybe my TV is set wrong

things i like: the way much the action either happens moving in and out of the screen, along the camera's line of sight -- or else perpendicular to that, like a horizonal line parallel to the screen but some way in (which reflects the T-shaped layout of the early-on town) (i don't think there's anything deep about this, i just find it tidy & stylised & pleasing)

things i'm undecided about: it has to solve the problem of characters aging, from babies to ancient -- sometimes it simply switches actors (which is sensible if disorienting) and sometimes actors are required to don old make-up and act old: marleyda soto as úrsula Iguarán (49) is v good at this, claudio cataño (40) as col.aureliano buendía less so
