Mel Brooks’ 20 Favourite Movies

night at the opera

I guess Psycho is my favourite

Dances with Wolves obv

Two of his films in there, The Twelve Chairs, and The Elephant Man.

I just spotted Shane, gross.

Two from Rob Reiner, none from Carl Reiner

An Anne Bancroft movie too

City Lights

Two by the Karaszewski brothers too

Double Indemnity. Peak Fred and Barbara. Great dialogue. Billy Wilder. Edward G Robinson.

double indemnity, fred macmurray is perfect in it. fond of night at the opera too.

Need to see 12 Chairs!

I just watched the 99 Year Old Man doc, and it's really good. What a crazy career, and it took him a good 15-20 years to find real success in the industry!

12 Chairs is fine. It's not to be confused with Sharon Tate's last film, 12 + 1 (1969), sometimes known as The Thirteen Chairs, which is based on the same Russian novel. It's kind of a "once there were two magician movies" situation.

An Anne Bancroft movie too

Two Anne Bancroft films

I voted Shane (in yr face, Alfred)

I'll just add I Vitelloni is one of my favorite Fellini films. I probably would've voted for that if City Lights wasn't an option.

Also Down and Out in Beverly Hills is an okay remake of Renoir's Boudu Saved from Drowning, but I much prefer the original, which is one of Renoir (and Michel Simon)'s best.

I love Jojo Rabbit, love seeing it in the bright lights but still voted for Double Indemnity.

I could watch Top Hat once a year. The plot is nothing. The characters are simple to the vanishing point. All that matters is the fizz! It's delightful.

it’s psycho
