is kazaa the best file sharing program?

It's alright, but there're tons of things I can't find on it and it seems to be much more USA-orientated when it comes to video files. I'll be buggered if i can find more than one episode of any British comedy show on there. So are there better ones... I just miss AG soooo much!

Only today I searched for the Wonder Stuff (I know, I know, shoot me) and it didn't have a *single* track. I use Soulseek more often.

It's the best for pop/popular stuff, but you won't find anything remotely rare there..I just use it download songs off the radio I like, usually. I also miss AG, it complemented Kazaa perfectly - between the two of them you could find ANY SONG IN THE WORLD!!! I tried soulseek once and didn't find what I was looking for, but apparently the search is screwed up or something.

There's even a TEFOSAV room on slsk! Duktar Qvackenstein or whatever he calls himself used to wander into the lobby occasionally back when I still dared sit in the lobby and bemuse people with his, er, distinctive spelling.

You're into IDM => you will probably find at least some stuff to amuse you (though these days the psytrance room is always sort of 4 times busier than the IDM room, which is a bit of a change from four months ago, never mind a year ago).

mmm... tefosav... I actually had no idea that that room existed. I'll ned to check it out. Last time I went on soulseek thaere was LOADS of hardcore bitching about ex-AG users invading their sacred union. Has it chilled out at all.

What about Morpheus and WinMX?

I pretty much left the lobby months ago and stopped chatting at all a while afterwards but it was calming down by then and I'd expect the hostility to be almost completely dead now. There'll probably be the odd grumble about people who don't share or people who put all their files in one folder so that if you browse their files you just see a frenzy of scrollbars and then the whole thing crashes, but that's about it. You're probably better off sticking to smaller rooms but I'm not about to claim there weren't idiots and trolls there long before AG.

Last time I tried WinMX I couldn't find anything I wanted at all, found it hard to get onto servers, and found that very little of anything (y'know, searches for "03" in desperation) was shared when I did, but that was before AG died so it's probably better now. I've downloaded other things from edonkey but wouldn't recommend it for music. DirectConnect is neat but no use unless you know someone who runs a server, and a lot of servers only allow people with fast connections and gigabytes of shares.

(I wonder if I should be *ing stuff out like crazy here...)

WinMX is not bad, if you have that as well as KaZaa you can find a pretty wide range of music. Still haven't been able to find a lot of obscure bands though, Servotron for example. The interface is better on KaZaa, and you can view information about the file before downloading, which you cannot do on winmx.

ooh I forgot about Direct Connect - if you're into metal you can find pretty much any album on the "Swedish Metal Albums" public hub. Anybody know of any other good public hubs?

John (jdahlem), Sunday, 1 December 2002 02:58 (twenty-three years ago)

where's direct connect at? I'm trying to download some Rwake but they don't even have it on amazon so i doubt it'll be online to download.

http://www.neo-modus.com/

can't tell you any hubs though, I only used it last Christmas when the slsk server went down and one of the people on the list set up a temporary slsk refuge hub, and hardly anybody turned up even then. The website looks rather glossier than it did a year ago so maybe it'll be easier to find hubs without having to know the right people now.

I found Murnau's Nosferatu and two Riefenstahls through edonkey (yeah, i chose German films, I think you get a lot of german dubbed films only). the problem is that it works with servers and you have to update your servers list every week or so. when in turned out it took months before he would get METROPOLIS I lost interst.

I'm on Kazaa now, wit's fast and they have alot (so far).
