“The Lowdown” on Hulu: Ethan Hawk & Sterlin Harjo & a chaotically great hang

Season 2 is well underway who’s watching?

Betty Gilpin’s here, Tommy Lee Jones, that one guy from the first 2 seasons of Parks & Rec, Steve Earle, even Uncle Brownie from Rez Dogs! #skoden

Sorry to Ethan HAWKE for misspelling his name in the thread title ugh

I feel like I should be watching, but ... I didn't love season 1! I like Hawke and everyone else in it, just couldn't muster much enthusiasm for the plot. But Betty Gilpin and Tommy Lee Jones are intriguing.

I loved s1, but waiting until all the eps are out before watching

Gilpin and and Jones definitely elevate the show (which I think was already great in the first place). This might be my favorite thing I’ve seen Gilpin in.

Season 2 is good so far! Gilpin matches Hawke at his exact frequency for this show/character, it’s so wild to see

And watching Jones is like watching an old tiger, not sure what he’s up to but it seems like no good

And I love the way Gilpin’s character is NOT charmed by him, and he just keeps trying to work his janky “Lee Raybon” magic hoping she’ll fall for him instead is so funny

Also

Paul Schneider as Chili Franks in Episode 2 — honestly kind of incredible!? I have liked him in stuff but truly did not know he had that guy in him & bravo

I feel like Ginger IS charmed by Lee against her better judgement?

same as when Rez Dogs got rolling in season two, I don't think anyone is better at endearing plot chaos than Harjo

Paul Schneider as Chili Franks in Episode 2 — honestly kind of incredible!?

so good! was so uncomfortable throughout this extended sequence. amazing performance.

I like the idea of SH making this show a mirror of the wire, in tulsa.

"this season is about political corruption; this season is about the carceral state..."

I'm not LOVING this season as much as Sea 1 but yes it is a very good hang

I am endlessly impressed at how much chaotic stupid behavior goes down in this show almost minute by minute & yet the show is so weirdly charming & has such genuinely good vibes that I’m never annoyed

A lesser show w this chaotic of a lead character, I dunno that I could hang for one episode let alone two seasons

Betty Gilpin is the least oklahoma person ever invented

The needle drops on this show are so fucking good. Never heard of Cary Ann Hearst before but went looking for her stuff after the song that closed out this week’s episode.

I love that Cary Ann Hearst song! I first heard it when it was used in True Blood S3

I want a supercut of Lee parking his van. He’s always either half crashing it on the curb or stalling it in the middle of the street, it’s such a great bit.

The dentist scene this week was so fucking funny. And my girl Martha Plimpton is here!! Yee har!

In the second episode when Tommy Lee is looking around the book shop and steals a photo of his granddaughter the guitar instrumental sounds so familiar but I can't place it.

Marty Robbins needledrop! ❤️❤️❤️
I fucking love this show

when the 14 year old kid at the bowling alley is trying pickup the gal from the bookstore & she monologues about fucking his mom & sending him to military school & being shipped off to the water wars
