you've got patty on there twice! she's my fav with marcie close behind. i don't love a lot of these characters or peanuts generally as much as others do.

I think I love them all equally in the anarchic Christmas dance scene, but probably Linus overall.

Oh to be clear there are TWO Pattys. The OG Patty is the one in the green dress, top left of the image. Peppermint Patty came along later. So make sure you vote for the Patty of your preference. (The original Patty never developed much of a distinct persona, tho I guess she and Violet were kind of early iterations of Mean Girls.)

The part of me that misses insufferable snobs in the field of criticism is a big Schroeder fan.

Snoopy is an obvious favorite and probably deserves to win, but I'm going with Lucy. Her crankiness, her unrequited love for Schroeder, her psychiatry booth, the football trope, she injects some angst and unsatisfied id into it all.

In the Zodiac/Brigs-Meyers/Big Five Traits of it all, I was born and remain a Linus. I had a pink blankie even.

I like reading the old strips and seeing original Patty and Violet as prominent characters. There's something sad about Patty getting marginalized in favor of a new character with the same name (at least that's how it looks). My vote's for original Patty, because that's a character I'd have liked to seen more of.

well you learn something new every day. i vaguely remember her. at least there's a vote for the underdog patty now.

peppermint patty always felt scarily close to my own personality. she seemed so much more emotionally-driven than any of the other characters. her relationship with marcie is such a beautifully particular queer kind of thing.

Voted Pig-pen because of the Dead connection, but it could be almost any of them (not a big Woodstock fan, perhaps because I associate him with the strip's creative decline).

Woodstock flew a chopper in ‘Nam (canon!), but I voted Linus because he reminds me of my brother for some reason.

Linus, Lucy and Snoopy are incredible creations, and Peppermint Patty rocks, but the optimism, disappointment, anxiety and all-too-human mediocrity of Charlie Brown are the heart of the strip.

I actually misinterpreted the poll and thinking it was Halloween-related based my vote on It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown. I went with Sally, the poor, sorry kid who threw away her Halloween because she believed Linus's nuttery and ended up with nothing.

I don't see how anyone can vote Snoopy, he's the Fonzi of Peanuts. I also think Linus is a bit much sometimes but I get why people like him. For me, this is between Charlie and Lucy. I'll have to think about this.

Poor Shermy was there from the start - per Wikipedia, When Peanuts made its debut on October 2, 1950, Shermy sat on the curb with another early character, Patty, and spoke the first lines of dialogue, ending with "Good ol' Charlie Brown ... How I hate him!" which is ironic, considering how he became one of Charlie Brown's closest friends, along with Linus van Pelt and Schroeder.

He was also visible in A Charlie Brown Christmas, but again per Wiki, he "became an extraneous character who was used less and less frequently, until his final appearance in 1969." (RIP Shermy)

Patty apparently was kept on the strip and was given a last name in 2015 (long after Shulz died) when 20th Century made the movie: Patty SWANSON. Per Wiki, Patty Swanson was in fact the name of the real person who partially inspired Peppermint Patty and had also served as the inspiration for the earlier Patty's name.

Apparently there are two Roys too: the one who debuted on June 11, 1965, and per the official Peanuts site: Charlie Brown finds a kindred spirit in Roy when both are alone and in need of friendship at summer camp. There's also the bird scout Roy, presumably the same species as Woodstock as the bird scouts all look alike. (They always appeared with Snoopy as their scout leader.)
