do you know the worst thing? Lost is on this weekend, and i'm being dragged off to this crap instead.

WHY DOES NO ONE EVER WANT TO GO TO LOST??????????!

gareth (gareth), Saturday, 30 November 2002 20:55 (twenty-three years ago)

WHY DOES NO ONE EVER WANT TO GO TO LOST??????????!

cos the last time i went i ended up clinging on to the floor for three hours.

actually i'll definitely go to the next lost, it's about time i replaced the memory of that last one with something better.

toby (tsg20), Saturday, 30 November 2002 21:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I would quite happily go to the next lost if I could locate me some stimulants that actually bloody worked.

NameNotRTAtAll, Saturday, 30 November 2002 22:42 (twenty-three years ago)

All this indie club shame from someone who posted a "let's all go to Trash" thread...

(Trash annoys me, I suppose partly because they have such an arbitrary no-ugly-people-sharp-dressers-only dress code so I probably wouldn't get in, and I don't know that I like the idea of being surrounded by people who can look in the mirror and go, "Yes, I look fabulous tonight, and everyone else who sees me will agree." Perhaps I should stop disliking them without even having been, especially since on their website it said that And The Lefthanded played there recently and I didn't even know that they were in the country. Sigh.)

How do women dress for stuff like Lost and Warp things? I don't do looking nice. But then I don't do going out either any more.

Rebecca (reb), Saturday, 30 November 2002 23:22 (twenty-three years ago)

I dunno, I don't think the dress code (a phrase which I admit suggests evil) applies much. I've never been knocked back (I don't look that great) and I've never seen anyone knocked back. Unless you really don't look like you should be in such a place you would be okay. Also, inside there are quite a few ugly people, but a higher than average proportion of good looking people. This is a good thing, I think.

"yeah spidey but they sucked after disintegration"

doom-e, Saturday, 30 November 2002 23:36 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah but have you heard The Strokes, Spidey, they are rubbish.

doom-e, Saturday, 30 November 2002 23:38 (twenty-three years ago)

Didn't the Spidey dance stop being so funny four months ago? What is this crap? Get a new joke!

Eyeball Kicks (Eyeball Kicks), Saturday, 30 November 2002 23:45 (twenty-three years ago)

uh yeah Ray I'm doing pretty good now that I am 239,000 miles away from The Cure

Rebecca (reb), Saturday, 30 November 2002 23:48 (twenty-three years ago)

b-b-b-but the Spidey thing is new to me... *cries*...

DG (D_To_The_G), Saturday, 30 November 2002 23:58 (twenty-three years ago)

b-b-b-but the Spidey thing is new to me... *cries*...

Er, sorry, carry on.

Come to think of it, that's a great argument. Why not try it on ILM, re indie debate?

Eyeball Kicks (Eyeball Kicks), Sunday, 1 December 2002 00:07 (twenty-three years ago)

gareth why are you always going out

bob zemko (bob), Sunday, 1 December 2002 02:46 (twenty-three years ago)

its boring

bob zemko (bob), Sunday, 1 December 2002 02:47 (twenty-three years ago)

ha! why i am always going out> well, usually, theres just so many people to see, that are always going to things. however, sadly, this is not always the good things. hence tonight, when robert hood is DJing and i've been at a crappy indie club:(

good indie records played tonight:

david bowie ~ sound and vision
the strokes ~ hard to explain
m.o.p ~ ante uo
basement jaxx ~ romeo
wu tang cl;an ~ wu tang aint nothin to fuch with

bad: um, the rest!

but it was ok as nights out go

its kind of weird at these kind of lowest common denominator indie nights though, everyone thinks you're like really ace or something, especially girls! i mean, graham should so go to something like this!

gareth (gareth), Sunday, 1 December 2002 04:18 (twenty-three years ago)

I am waiting to see if s trife explodes with rage at the description of MOP and the Wu as "indie".

Seriously, what do people wear at Warp/Rephlex/etc things and Lost and so on? I'd have gone to some by now if I had any transport, but I'm always scared it'll be like eg the local house night where all the guys are there in jeans and t-shirts and trainers looking like they've been wearing them all week and all the women are in slinky little black dresses and three hours' worth of makeup. I only really do the former, I mean if there's an explicit no-jeans-or-trainers dresscode then ok but I'll feel out of place all night... *waves hands*

(I only wanted to go and hear James Holden DJ because he uses the same softsynth/sequencer as me anyway which is just sad and trainspotterish)

Rebecca (reb), Sunday, 1 December 2002 12:36 (twenty-three years ago)

you think you've got cred issues gareth, i was at the garage's indie nite on friday, full on lowest common denominator...

had fun though, mainly due to advanced inebriation...

next time i go to a nite like this (and, oh yes, there will be a next time) i am making up INDIE BINGO cards.

also does one have to wear skool uniform to go to after skool?

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Sunday, 1 December 2002 12:41 (twenty-three years ago)

This is true. It's alarming. It helps if you're skinny.

N. (nickdastoor), Sunday, 1 December 2002 12:47 (twenty-three years ago)

This never happens to me. Mind you, I'm could never be described as skinny and am normally in an incredibly foul mood when I get dragged out to such places.

RickyT (RickyT), Sunday, 1 December 2002 12:55 (twenty-three years ago)

You're all spoiled brats. Let's see you moan about Indie Clubs once you have to live on an island where every fucking disco still plays Snap! and "Rhythm Is A Dancer" ("But Dan, that's our version of paradise etc." quips ILX; "shut up you sad bastards!" scream I)

Daniel_Rf (Daniel_Rf), Sunday, 1 December 2002 14:37 (twenty-three years ago)

Tee hee. What is this fantasy island?

this really isn't the case at warp/rephlex/lost type things. ok, some ppl dress up, but most people don't, as far as i notice. lost in particular is about dancing all night rather than looking good. and warp/rephlex things have plenty of geeky badly dressed people, lots of whom don't dance.

MENTAL IMAGE OF HERVE VILLECHAISE BREAKDANCING!!!

Nate Patrin (Nate Patrin), Sunday, 1 December 2002 17:14 (twenty-three years ago)

It is many years since I haf been to indie klub, b/c i am old & not up to much Xcept making self running patches on analogue modular synthesiser, & listening to on fancy new stereo headphones for 3 1/2 hrs (IE what i did last night) However, I used to do PA sound at indie club @ Newcastle Uni something like 10-12yrs ago. All I remember is that EVERY FUKCING REKKID THEY PLAYED SOUNDED LIKE "FREAK SCENE" & seemed to be by teen-age-bloody-phanclub. The indie massive would do "sad little petal ov love" dance IE act as if lleft foot was glued to floor, and rotate slowly backwards in arrythmic manner. It was not a lot ov phun. How I longed to seize control ov dex0rz & drop "Hot on the heels of love" &/or "Slug Bait". I never did tho'.

N0RM4N PH4Y, Sunday, 1 December 2002 17:22 (twenty-three years ago)

I never want to hear that Grooverider Stone Roses remix again.

S.Miguel. We also think that the greatest Hip-Hop song of all time is "Gangsta's Paradise" and xXx just came to our theaters- come visit!

Daniel_Rf (Daniel_Rf), Monday, 2 December 2002 00:34 (twenty-three years ago)

heh I'd pay to go a pH4y-r4d d33j4y night

DG (D_To_The_G), Monday, 2 December 2002 10:53 (twenty-three years ago)

You do slinky little black dresses Rebecca - that's a bit out of character isn't it?

What does Gareth mean?

Graham (graham), Monday, 2 December 2002 14:08 (twenty-three years ago)

Bloody hell Rebecca I had exactly the same question at the Warp xmas thing the other year, with ADDED PRESSURE of "a certain person" attending as well, I didn't have a CLUE what to wear and no doubt ended up looking like a complete and utter twat after weeping and breaking down about it when we didn't have enough TIME anyway. I still cringe about it.

This is a good thing about being a goth though - make it black!! This policy has even got me into cockfarming Trash a few times as well. BLACK IS YOUR FRIEND, children. You can't go wrong. This is a lesson I should have learnt earlier. And also if you are a goth you are supposed to think you look terrible anyway and there is a chance you MAY not look so bad - I recommend not looking in mirrors, getting very drunk and then pretending that I am not a huge ginormous munter that everyone is larffing at because I am dancing like I am on DDR.

Actually I got complimented on my dancing once (whilst doing a DDR style shuffle @ a northern soul nite), I think the complimentee was on DRUUUGZ though.

Sarah (starry), Monday, 2 December 2002 14:34 (twenty-three years ago)

Aw bless. The dance kids can't have a good time without dwugs. And that's a recoomendation?

Mark C (Mark C), Monday, 2 December 2002 21:29 (twenty-three years ago)

...corduroy...
