you can open an account for your cat. But the lack of opposable thumbs makes it impossible for the cats themselves to fill in the paperwork involved.

cats can inherit from a will, at least in some states. (as can other animals!)

actually, a bequest in a will to an animal -- such as a cat -- is OK. the bequest is put into an "honorary trust," so long as the honorary trust doesn't violate the Rule Against Perpetuities (don't ask me to explain RAP, please). for example, california's probate code provides for this.

dunno about the legalities of cats and bank accounts, though.
