I can't really justify $174 for a pair of boots, but I really dig them.

those are lovely boots. i want them... dammit, i don't actually own a pair of chelsea boots in brown, but if i started getting into brown chelsea boots, then i'd really be in trouble.
i've already got four pairs with me here. and another three pairs back in storage in ny. i mean, how do you pick just one pair of chelsea boots, when you have the options of cuban heeled or flat, round, square or superpointy cock-roach killer toed... gah, don't make me have to get all those options in BROWN as well now...
::kate's head explodes::
(i used to tease our bassist about her addiction to trainers, saying that i was above such petty things as shoe fetishes. until i started unpacking my chelsea boots and oh how she laffed...)

Jel is right once again! Just the other day, I decided against buying something that would've cost $50; I was so proud myself that I spent $50 worth of CDs as a reward.
there is absolutely nothing I want to buy cd wise right now.

Hey, those Chris V. boots look alot like the ones Nick was talking about on his masculine fashion thread.
What do we think of these? http://www.zappos.com/images/735/7358775/6220-501488-p.jpg http://www.zappos.com/images/734/7345475/6219-474604-d.jpg
(for me, not him!)
I tried on a ton of boots at DSW yesterday, but everything either had too high a heel or was too boring or crazy for me. Maybe I should just give up on tall boots this year and buy these cuties? http://www.zappos.com/images/734/7345468/6901-474588-d.jpg
― KitCat, Thursday, 18 October 2007 14:24 (seventeen years ago)
I like the middle pair v much, Sarah! It's hard to find that lowish heel in a good shape, and I like that one.
― Laurel, Thursday, 18 October 2007 14:38 (seventeen years ago)
Yes, they aren't chunky or teetering. They are also the most expensive. You have good taste.
― KitCat, Thursday, 18 October 2007 14:40 (seventeen years ago)
Okay boots:
http://www.duoboots.com/images/2007/boots/2_casual_naples_1.jpg
They are from Duo Boots and they are pricey pricey BUT you can custom order the calf size, which is key for me since I have hard time finding tall boots that fit over my freakishly large calves.
Sarah - I like the top ones, but that's because I'm allergic to heels.
― Jenny, Thursday, 18 October 2007 14:41 (seventeen years ago)
Haha, or at least moderately expensive taste. The care for line & proportion shows in the ankle & heel vicinity, I happen to like what I see there. I think the top pair are very handsome too.
JENNY I LOVE THOSE. They are not for me but I like v v much, PLUS custom calf is NECESSARY.
― Laurel, Thursday, 18 October 2007 14:43 (seventeen years ago)
Nice.
One cool thing about my top boots is the 16" shaft, as I'm a Tally Shore.
― KitCat, Thursday, 18 October 2007 14:44 (seventeen years ago)
ooh adjustable calf size boots! that is awesome. i found a pair of boots last year that actually fit my calves (opposite problem, stick legs) and spent $400 on them just because i had never before had boots that didn't look ridiculous and baggy.
(i am NOT buying new boots this year, those ones better last me a decade)
― bell_labs, Thursday, 18 October 2007 14:45 (seventeen years ago)
I also like these and these, but they look kind of stuff in the foot part (the... upper?) and I'm kind of loathe to order expensive custom boots from foreign lands only to have to mail them back because they hurt my tooties.
Ya, I'm willing to shell out the bucks for those because I'm assuming they'll last a long-ass time.
― Jenny, Thursday, 18 October 2007 14:47 (seventeen years ago)
Okay, between these http://www.duoboots.com/images/2007/boots/2_dress_odessa_27.jpg
and these http://www.duoboots.com/images/2007/boots/2_casual_bologna_1.jpg
I may have just fulfilled all my boot needs forever.
― Laurel, Thursday, 18 October 2007 14:48 (seventeen years ago)
those bottom ones are so great! the top ones look a little dominatrixy.
― bell_labs, Thursday, 18 October 2007 14:50 (seventeen years ago)
I love patent leather.
― Laurel, Thursday, 18 October 2007 14:51 (seventeen years ago)
I also have large calves. The zippers were pinching at my skin at DSW. I am telling myself those large calves are necessary to support my amazon body.
xpost - ooh patent! I saw quite a few boots yesterday in the style of shoe + boot leg, if tha tmakes any sense. I like the way your second pair handles that trend, making the shaft more of a legwarmer of sorts.
― KitCat, Thursday, 18 October 2007 14:51 (seventeen years ago)
otm on both counts.
if anyone with time to kill wants to find me a new pair of boots i'll be in need soon enough.
― chicago kevin, Thursday, 18 October 2007 14:52 (seventeen years ago)
sarah, i really like the last pair you posted, wouldn't they be tall enough to protect from the elements?
i like the merrell pirate boots, will try to find a photo in a minute.
xp-- kevin, what are you looking for? dressy winter boots? snow boots? toby needs boots as well, but we don't know where to start so boy boot photos will be useful to him as well.
― colette, Thursday, 18 October 2007 14:54 (seventeen years ago)
Laurel, you would totally rock those top boots.
― Jenny, Thursday, 18 October 2007 14:55 (seventeen years ago)
Nick looked at boots at DSW as well but didn't find any he loved. BOYS be needin' boots.
Colette, they have an 11" shaft, so yes. It's just funny because my goal had been new tall boots (my black ones I got a few years ago got all scratched up - actually wore them quite a bit).
― KitCat, Thursday, 18 October 2007 14:57 (seventeen years ago)
sometime in my life, i want to own a pair of above-the-knee boots. i know they kind of straddle the trashy/hot line though, but i've seen a few people pull them off and look absolutely sexy and not at all like a cheap tramp.
― bell_labs, Thursday, 18 October 2007 14:57 (seventeen years ago)
just a pair of boots to replace my doc's that are wearing down in the heel.
― chicago kevin, Thursday, 18 October 2007 14:58 (seventeen years ago)
I like the boots that Chris V. posted at the top. A lot.
― n/a, Thursday, 18 October 2007 15:01 (seventeen years ago)
I wonder if they are still made.
That's nice, dear. Find out who makes them.
Update! I am leaning towards my middle boots right now. Maybe I'll get the third pair for xmas...
― KitCat, Thursday, 18 October 2007 15:01 (seventeen years ago)
http://cdn.overstock.com/images/products/P10825972.jpg something like these...not trampy, just kind of equestrian
― bell_labs, Thursday, 18 October 2007 15:04 (seventeen years ago)
Based on the URL, they are Kenneth Cole.
― n/a, Thursday, 18 October 2007 15:04 (seventeen years ago)
bell labs, would over the knee boots make it hard to walk? i'm imagining it would be like wearing hip-waders or something.
― chicago kevin, Thursday, 18 October 2007 15:07 (seventeen years ago)
They have some similar ones on the KC website but they are more expensive.
― n/a, Thursday, 18 October 2007 15:07 (seventeen years ago)
sarah, i liked the middle boots best!
― chicago kevin, Thursday, 18 October 2007 15:08 (seventeen years ago)
Those are cute, but personally I have enough trouble walking in tennis shoes as it is.
Thanks, Kev! Hey... are you just saying that because I said I was leaning towards those?
― KitCat, Thursday, 18 October 2007 15:08 (seventeen years ago)
fuck, how hard is it to find a decent pair of chelsea boots that aren't ungodly expensive?
xpost- no, i meant to say that before i swears!
that's a good question. i think they usually are bendy at the knee...i've never even tried them on though.
― bell_labs, Thursday, 18 October 2007 15:08 (seventeen years ago)
how hard is it to find a decent pair of chelsea boots that aren't ungodly expensive?
kinda hard. toby got a pair of something in that family at ravel in london last year, but like most chelsea boots they have a smooth sole and only go up to ankle bone, so i'm not sure they're the best 'chicago in january' boots.
why don't you just get another pair of docs?
― colette, Thursday, 18 October 2007 15:12 (seventeen years ago)
What about the tall pair with flat soles and the D buckles?
― Laurel, Friday, 26 October 2007 17:41 (seventeen years ago)
I am very very picky and do not have any nice black boots anymore, partly because I am so picky and the only boots I like are ridic prices. So feel free to ignore me. :D
― Laurel, Friday, 26 October 2007 17:45 (seventeen years ago)
Still a possibility, though I can't decide if they are feminine enough for me.
― KitCat, Friday, 26 October 2007 17:46 (seventeen years ago)
Sarah, look at fryeboots.com. See what you think. They're not cheap, but neither were that other pair you ordered, if I remember correctly...?
― Laurel, Friday, 26 October 2007 17:51 (seventeen years ago)
Them're swell boots, Ms. Cat. Are they leather? Do they stretch? I have a pair sort like that (well, some boots w/no zippers) and I feel immodest making and inadvertently attention-getting display peeling them off when I need to reduce the internal temperature of my overly-warm legs & feets.
― Abbott, Friday, 26 October 2007 17:59 (seventeen years ago)
The problem here is that if they stretch, they're not leather. They're synthetic.
― Laurel, Friday, 26 October 2007 18:03 (seventeen years ago)
Which might be why they seem hot!
― Laurel, Friday, 26 October 2007 18:07 (seventeen years ago)
They zip up on the inner side of the leg. Also, I'm guessing they are synthetic because they are "stretch" and very inexpensive.
― KitCat, Friday, 26 October 2007 19:50 (seventeen years ago)
does anyone know who in nyc would have a large selection of frye boots? most places seem to carry just one or two styles.
― bell_labs, Wednesday, 2 January 2008 20:32 (seventeen years ago)
The place on 72nd St where I got mine had a bunch. Between Columbus & Amsterdam, I'm pretty sure. A nicer version of one of those David Z. sorts of places.
― Laurel, Wednesday, 2 January 2008 20:54 (seventeen years ago)
http://www.fryeboots.com/subpages/images/77431COG.jpg i'm pretty into this style
― bell_labs, Wednesday, 2 January 2008 20:59 (seventeen years ago)
i don't know if the heel would be too much for me, though
― bell_labs, Wednesday, 2 January 2008 21:00 (seventeen years ago)
Won't know til you try! Another ILXor picked up a pair of harness boots like mine...lookin' good.
― Laurel, Wednesday, 2 January 2008 21:01 (seventeen years ago)

this is Tip Top Shoes, presumably. if that fails, you could try Harry's Shoes, at 83rd and Bway.
― gabbneb, Wednesday, 2 January 2008 21:07 (seventeen years ago)
last time I went to Harry's the salesman personally owned a pair of at least three of the four shoes I looked at. amazing, rite?

― stevienixed, Wednesday, 2 January 2008 21:36 (seventeen years ago)
http://imgs.yoox.biz/44/440888422P_2.jpg i bought these boots. not fryes but they were on sale like whoa. the heel is 4 inches which is a lot for me, but they seem really comfortable!
― bell_labs, Thursday, 3 January 2008 20:14 (seventeen years ago)
comfortable 4 inch heels! they are hot
― rrrobyn, Thursday, 3 January 2008 20:16 (seventeen years ago)
i know! it was shocking. the toes have a nice rubber bottom so they are not slippery, which is usually my problem with heels.
― bell_labs, Thursday, 3 January 2008 20:17 (seventeen years ago)
i wld like a pair in dark brown with dark brown heel
― rrrobyn, Thursday, 3 January 2008 20:18 (seventeen years ago)
labs, I actually like those much better than the Frye ones, I have big negative feelings for heel shapes that curve back out at the bottom.
― Laurel, Thursday, 3 January 2008 20:19 (seventeen years ago)

boots. tell me where i can buy some. there must be sales somewhere.
(the ones i bought upthread are too tall for everyday wear. and my other flat ones, after wearing them over jeans once, are now stretched out and slouchy)
― bell_labs, Friday, 8 February 2008 17:08 (seventeen years ago)
there must be sales somewhere.
so, this is a new york-specific question? Because in the larger sense, yes, you are correct. There must.

i like those but suede is pretty impractical & also, i just don't like it as much as leather. i just bought some vintage ropers this week actually.
― jed_, Thursday, 11 December 2008 21:18 (sixteen years ago)
They're goat leather.
― sad man in him room (milo z), Thursday, 11 December 2008 21:20 (sixteen years ago)
maybe it's the close-up/angle, but the soles are pretty funny-looking
― very very serious (gabbneb), Thursday, 11 December 2008 21:23 (sixteen years ago)
i mean, that kind of sole on that kind of boot
the soles are my favorite part! not sure about the color though, it's very bright.
― Maria, Thursday, 11 December 2008 21:58 (sixteen years ago)
aren't cowboy boat soles supposed to be flush with the upper? these look like cowboy boots on a dress oxford platform.
― very very serious (gabbneb), Thursday, 11 December 2008 22:00 (sixteen years ago)
They're ropers, not riding boots. I like them, although I'm not sure I can picture anyone I know wearing 'em.
― One Community Service Mummy, hold the Straightedge Merman (Laurel), Thursday, 11 December 2008 22:02 (sixteen years ago)
ok, it just looks like suede or nubuck in the photo but they look like they wouldn't age so well, much like suede. they look like they are $$$, am i right?
― jed_, Thursday, 11 December 2008 22:20 (sixteen years ago)
$239, I think - Lucchese Classics are usually in the $400+ range.
Lots of dough to spend on something I'm not completely sure of. Maybe I should e-mail it to my mom and see if they're still shopping for Christmas.
― sad man in him room (milo z), Thursday, 11 December 2008 22:25 (sixteen years ago)
They're ropers, not riding boots
while i do not speak your funny languages, i look up these mr roper boot and see welt-stitching or similar, rather than 'cowboy boots on a dress oxford platform'
they do look nice otherwise, i think
― very very serious (gabbneb), Thursday, 11 December 2008 22:25 (sixteen years ago)
actually i kind of agree with gabbneb. the sole is kind of too fancy for the boot and makes it look like a bit of a daft hybrid whereas ropers are working boots and should look like working boots.
although cowboy boots are working boots too and are often very fancy so maybe i'm wrong.
― jed_, Thursday, 11 December 2008 22:37 (sixteen years ago)
Its boot time. Funny how ten years ago I couldn't afford nor justify spending $174 for boots. Well i just bought wolverine 1000 miles. Best $385 I ever spent.
