There's a tingly sensation right in between my eyebrows, and when I examined a mirror, lo! Several thick hairs, alas!

Do you have any desire to join Oasis?

MarkH (MarkH), Wednesday, 4 December 2002 10:01 (twenty-two years ago)

HAHAHAHA sorry leee but it sounds funny, even though it would be kind of depressing. i agree that plucking is the go.

Too bad I don't have any pictures of my roommate, you could then see the perfected final product before deciding whether to pluck or cultivate.

C'mon, you don't really have a tingling sensation, do you?

Sean (Sean), Thursday, 5 December 2002 00:49 (twenty-two years ago)

There is nothing wrong with a unibrow! Besides, one quick sweep of a razor and the uni becomes a two-ee. (At least, that's how I remedy my hair issue.) It's that sloped forehead and jutting jaw you have to worry about, see.

i usually equate tingling sensations with cold sores

Dave according to my uncle the worst thing you can do to an eyebrow is to shave it (is that you meant by sweeping a razor?), it grows back agane, and even thicker and more spikey

Chupa-Cabras (vicc13), Thursday, 5 December 2002 04:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, I keep meaning to ask the collective brane of ILE whether the theory that shaving makes hairs grow back darker and thicker is true or not. I've heard it - not just eyebrows, and mainly referring to shaving but sometimes also to plucking - so many times and then I've heard that it's just a myth almost as many times and I'd quite like it to be false but it seems to be at least slightly true. Maybe this is just because younger hairs tend to be darker and tougher and they'll blend in with time if you let them, but then half of the point is that you won't want to anyway.

Oh yes, now I remember that the reason I haven't asked before is that you might all point and laugh. Well, go on, then.

Rebecca (reb), Thursday, 5 December 2002 04:50 (twenty-two years ago)

I've realized I can no longer afford two eyebrows.

Leee (Leee), Thursday, 5 December 2002 05:19 (twenty-two years ago)

And Rebecca, while it may be generally a myth, I've been told that as a child my brows were shaved off, and when they grew back they came in thick, which they are it is to this day.

Leee (Leee), Thursday, 5 December 2002 05:24 (twenty-two years ago)

I just read an article on this topic recently which proposed to debunk the theory that hairs grow back thicker if they are shaved. The thing is, as people age their hair naturally grows in thicker and more prominently--hence old men with huge ear tufts, you don't usually see that on teens.

webcrack (music=crack), Thursday, 5 December 2002 05:27 (twenty-two years ago)

yes, Rebecca, I've heard that hairs like the stimulation (like how your nails grow faster if you type or play piano), so that plucking or shaving supposedly will just cause them to redouble their efforts.

Perhaps my body is telling me to watch Frida.

Leee (Leee), Thursday, 5 December 2002 08:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Hairs that have been shaved off appear thicker because you're seeing the truncated end of the hair rather than the naturally tapering original end. Although they do seem to grow back in a bit darker sometimes.

Every time I look at this thread title I think the 'w' shouldn't be there. I blame Uniqlo.
