ILX Comp (Do Not Listen If You Hate Us) (Do Not Read If You Hate Me)

Hello!

I took the ILX comp to the duplication place today. I would have liked to have got the shiny little discs in my hand today, but alas I will have to go back next week to collect them (They were all duplicated at 5, but the printing wasn't done)

I have had 115 copies made, this is to cover all contributers and people who responded to the "who wants a copy" thread. There are a few left over for review purposes and maybe a few for people who want one but didn't say so on the thread (I can burn some more on my computer anyhow).

If you live in London and you responded to the thread, you'll get your copy at the X-mas FAP (if you are there).

I have a few going to NYC, and would like to know if anyone wants to act as a distributer for the NYC area? The same goes for Dunedin/New Zealand (it'll help me out on the postage).

I might send the copies out after X-mas, so you will have something to look forward to in January.

Also, I stood next to John Peel in Rough Trade today, I wish I'd had the copies made when I saw them! "Excuse me Mr.Peel, Home Truth's is great, here's a copy of a compilation you might like".

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 4 December 2002 23:07 (twenty-three years ago)

I'd post the running order but it's on my computer at work.

Oh and Mark S, can I use the "oh no! fite! oh no!" pic as part of the artwork (an A4 photocopy)?

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 4 December 2002 23:10 (twenty-three years ago)

Can I sheepishly ask for a copy now, jel? I think I heard that you've already got a contact in Toronto who's going to dole 'em out, right?

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Wednesday, 4 December 2002 23:15 (twenty-three years ago)

I have a list of 92 names, Sean you now are now number 93.

I have decided that the next six people who respond to this thread as new wantee's will be issued the number 94-99. And they'll get one.

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 4 December 2002 23:21 (twenty-three years ago)

i will be happy to distribute in new zealand, should i just email you my address jel or wait and see if anyone else also offers?

donna (donna), Wednesday, 4 December 2002 23:22 (twenty-three years ago)

(sorry I only had a couple of whisky's but I'm feeling a little drunk)

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 4 December 2002 23:22 (twenty-three years ago)

is my name on that list? (david h, jel, just in case, y'know).

dwh (dwh), Wednesday, 4 December 2002 23:23 (twenty-three years ago)

yes you are in at number 78.

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 4 December 2002 23:25 (twenty-three years ago)

yes jel, it is both urgent AND key

mark s (mark s), Wednesday, 4 December 2002 23:27 (twenty-three years ago)

what's my number??

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 4 December 2002 23:28 (twenty-three years ago)

Thanks for your work on this, Jel, it's very much appreciated. I apologize if people hear my track then come kill you for having exposed it to the world.

nabisco (nabisco), Wednesday, 4 December 2002 23:33 (twenty-three years ago)

jel, I would be interested in a copy of that compilation, though as a new and unknown poster I won't be offended if they are reserved or doled out to long-time ILX people.

webcrack (music=crack), Wednesday, 4 December 2002 23:51 (twenty-three years ago)

Thanks jel. I am feeling even more sheepish that I didn't see the news about this in a timely enough fashion to contribute.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Wednesday, 4 December 2002 23:53 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes yes I want one

Andy K (Andy K), Wednesday, 4 December 2002 23:55 (twenty-three years ago)

Not sure if I am on that list but I would like a copy if possible.

isadora (isadora), Wednesday, 4 December 2002 23:56 (twenty-three years ago)

dude! i can be the NYC distribution person if no one else wants to

geeta (geeta), Thursday, 5 December 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

are we still doin the focus group for the comp?

dwh (dwh), Thursday, 5 December 2002 00:13 (twenty-three years ago)

Do you need a distributor for Dublin?

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 5 December 2002 01:08 (twenty-three years ago)

Yay jel! You really are my hero!

Kim (Kim), Thursday, 5 December 2002 01:14 (twenty-three years ago)

Sweet crap, I HOPE we're not doing a Focus Group for the comp! (And this is not because I think the comp will be crap, duh.)

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 5 December 2002 01:16 (twenty-three years ago)

I think there was a resounding NO to that idea the first time it came up.

Kim (Kim), Thursday, 5 December 2002 01:24 (twenty-three years ago)

haha, that was a joke, it was mentioned earlier and everyone shat themselves, inc. nabisco, but he was also quite noble. we should do it: we = people who haven't contributed... = tears!!!

dwh (dwh), Thursday, 5 December 2002 01:25 (twenty-three years ago)

I still want to focus group it, largely because I think my track will score very low and I Want to read amusing mean comments about it.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 5 December 2002 01:41 (twenty-three years ago)

Do we owe you anything Jel? It sounds like you have put a lot of time into this.

Nicole (Nicole), Thursday, 5 December 2002 02:21 (twenty-three years ago)

I still want to focus group it, largely because I think my track will score very low and I Want to read amusing mean comments about it.

Sounds like Hootie.

See, I don't even really have to listen to it to make the mean comment...

Nicole (Nicole), Thursday, 5 December 2002 02:22 (twenty-three years ago)

dan's track suxxxx it is clearly written by someone with no clue about music what a waste of somewhere between ten seconds and seventy-four minutes of my otherwise exciting and productive life u r all gay DEATH TO FALSE METAL ALL MEN PLAY ON TEN

Will that do?

(PS jel = rock)

Rebecca (reb), Thursday, 5 December 2002 03:37 (twenty-three years ago)

You got my name on the list, right?

Christine "Green Leafy Dragon" Indigo (cindigo), Thursday, 5 December 2002 04:36 (twenty-three years ago)

hooray for jel and our NY distributor, geeta!

How much do we owe you, jel? I can wire transfer you the funds if you send the details to my email.

felicity (felicity), Thursday, 5 December 2002 06:34 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm still so embarrassed about the focus group thing: the weird stage fright of having more than a couple friends hear anything I've done made me completely miss the obvious bad-idea joke in that.

nabisco (nabisco), Thursday, 5 December 2002 07:56 (twenty-three years ago)

No focus group! The only review people I've thought of sending it to are Robots and Electronic Brains and John Peel.

No charge. It's cool.

Dan's song is the opening track!

Webcrack = 94
Andy K = 95
RJG = 60
Christine "Green Leafy Dragon" Indigo = 79
Isadora = 88

Thanks Donna, Getta and Andrew! (I'll be in touch!)

Chr

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 5 December 2002 08:04 (twenty-three years ago)

(Thank you for going through so much trouble for us. Is there a Toronto distributor? I am whispering because I have left planet ILX, really this time.)

Miss Laura, Thursday, 5 December 2002 08:33 (twenty-three years ago)

i've got one, right?

gareth (gareth), Thursday, 5 December 2002 09:31 (twenty-three years ago)

If I'm not down for one can you put me down for one. Gareth, can you pick it up for me?

Ed (dali), Thursday, 5 December 2002 09:32 (twenty-three years ago)

Jel, were you standing around the entrance to Bond Street shopping centre looking a bit lost at about 1800 last night?

RickyT (RickyT), Thursday, 5 December 2002 09:52 (twenty-three years ago)

yeah, that was me Ricky! I was waiting for a friend. I went to a bar on Wigmore street, it has a little cove that is just like a hobbit house! Though whisky and coke was £4.75 a go! *faints*

Ed = 96.

Gareth = 5

Miss Laura, I'll probably have a Toronto distributer (but could you email me with an email address, just in case?)

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 5 December 2002 10:06 (twenty-three years ago)

(am I on the list?)

(The ardent socialist, the rich tobacconist, I've got them on my list, tumpty tumpty tum, I've got a little list..... *goes mad*)

Sam (chirombo), Thursday, 5 December 2002 11:17 (twenty-three years ago)

Dumb question: What's the ILX comp??

B, Thursday, 5 December 2002 11:40 (twenty-three years ago)

It is a new fangled compact-disc-u-like of various ILx posters musical projects all compiled together for the edigfication of other ILxors and for future generations to note the start of a musical movement.

Oh happy day.

Pete (Pete), Thursday, 5 December 2002 11:51 (twenty-three years ago)

I'll still be your Toronto distributor jel! That is, assuming I'm on your list from the other thread. (and sorry I never submitted that artwork, wah)

Kim (Kim), Thursday, 5 December 2002 11:57 (twenty-three years ago)

Sam = 66

Cool thanks Kim = 59!

Pete, you are not on the list! Do you want one? B do you want one?

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 5 December 2002 12:08 (twenty-three years ago)

jel=swell

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 5 December 2002 12:10 (twenty-three years ago)

Er, no.

Pete (Pete), Thursday, 5 December 2002 12:56 (twenty-three years ago)

Jel, maybe you should save yourself time by posting up the entire list of recipients?

nabisco (nabisco), Thursday, 5 December 2002 15:44 (twenty-three years ago)

jel, let me know what you prefer. as i suggested on the other thread i can have a friend pick up in london and buy you a drink or if you mail it to me i can mail you something from ethiopia in exchange

H (Heruy), Thursday, 5 December 2002 15:46 (twenty-three years ago)

yes post the entire list jel! then i won't bug you by asking if i'm on the list too! :)

katie (katie), Thursday, 5 December 2002 16:17 (twenty-three years ago)

Focus Group = Mark cries and cries and cries...

mark p (Mark P), Thursday, 5 December 2002 16:25 (twenty-three years ago)

We should have multiple choice Focus Group. This track is:

(a) Totally unbelievably rocking
(b) So funky my jaw dropped
(c) Stunningly brilliant
(d) The best thing ever to happen to planet Earth

nabisco (nabisco), Thursday, 5 December 2002 19:27 (twenty-three years ago)

(e) Mike used *how* much delay???

the pinefox, Thursday, 5 December 2002 21:21 (twenty-three years ago)

We're still allowed to talk about it though, right, even if there's no focus group?

Oh yeah, and how are you arranging getting comps to people (like me, I assume) who live in places with no distributors?

Dan I., Thursday, 5 December 2002 21:41 (twenty-three years ago)

we can release it as an mp3 album on my friends online label

chaki (chaki), Thursday, 5 December 2002 21:46 (twenty-three years ago)

damn, I really should check this stuff more often

luna.c (luna.c), Saturday, 7 December 2002 09:34 (twenty-three years ago)

s.r.w. (s.r.w.), Saturday, 7 December 2002 15:30 (twenty-three years ago)

one month passes...
Nabisco what is your email address? or could you email a postal address? Thanks!

Everyone else: I am sending these things out! I shall be asking for postal addresses over the next couple of weeks, unless I have your address already or I'm sending it to an area distributor.

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 21 January 2003 21:48 (twenty-three years ago)

I can be the glasgow distributer, if that makes things any easier.

three people I actually see often: me, allyC, N.

one person I haven't and won't: plink.

and anyone else that I don't know about. maybe this would be much help, haha.

RJG (RJG), Tuesday, 21 January 2003 23:08 (twenty-three years ago)

cool, I will send you N's and Ally's and Plinky's too (unless she wants me to send it directly to her?)

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 22 January 2003 09:49 (twenty-three years ago)

(jel I have sent you an email (before seeing this thread, sorry))

Sam (chirombo), Wednesday, 22 January 2003 09:52 (twenty-three years ago)

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Wednesday, 22 January 2003 10:17 (twenty-three years ago)

Jel, thanx for remembering me, I have a PO Box you could send it to or I could arrange something with RGJ if he doesn't mind?

Plinky (Plinky), Wednesday, 22 January 2003 10:21 (twenty-three years ago)

Dyselxia strikes again! Soz RJG.

Plinky (Plinky), Wednesday, 22 January 2003 10:24 (twenty-three years ago)

if there is ever a FAP around I could probably remember to bring but that might be a while?

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 22 January 2003 10:34 (twenty-three years ago)

I tried to resurect the post Christmas FAP but nobody seemed interested! I'm still interested in meeting y'all so I can be patient, I think..

Plinky (Plinky), Wednesday, 22 January 2003 10:37 (twenty-three years ago)

so, i'll send your copy to RJG and he can give you it a FAP, or post it on to your PO Box (if he doesn't mind). Also, David H is in Glasgow, yes?

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 22 January 2003 10:44 (twenty-three years ago)

oh, yeah, him too, haha. send all the glasgow ones to me and I'll see they go to the right places somehow. thanks again.

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 22 January 2003 10:46 (twenty-three years ago)

Cheers RJG. Should I attempt to resurect the FAP again? We could have an ILX Comp FAP...

Plinky (Plinky), Wednesday, 22 January 2003 11:02 (twenty-three years ago)

i will be the south african distributor!

mitch lastnamewithheld (mitchlnw), Wednesday, 22 January 2003 11:50 (twenty-three years ago)

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 22 January 2003 13:03 (twenty-three years ago)

Sod it I haven't been paying attention to this thread, and it's too late to get on the list now....would somebody be willing to make me a copy of this?
(An ILx'er in Scotland would make most sense for postage reasons)

Snowy Mann (rdmanston), Wednesday, 22 January 2003 13:17 (twenty-three years ago)

I would say I would but I would see what jel would say first.

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 22 January 2003 13:30 (twenty-three years ago)

(An ILx'er in Scotland would make most sense for postage reasons)

Snowy Mann (rdmanston), Thursday, 23 January 2003 18:18 (twenty-three years ago)

Are there any Irish people on that list other than Angela and Lara?

Ronan said to say that he hates you all. DV too.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 23 January 2003 18:42 (twenty-three years ago)

Ronan and DV never asked for one!

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 23 January 2003 18:43 (twenty-three years ago)

Ronan and DV are not honoring our fire.

nabisco (nabisco), Thursday, 23 January 2003 18:59 (twenty-three years ago)

Jel, I might have mentioned this before, but I'ma bit suprised that as it's professionally made CD, it's still a CDR and not a CD (ie it won't play on my DVD player). Did they mention this to you at the time?

(not that I mind that much)

Graham (graham), Thursday, 23 January 2003 19:03 (twenty-three years ago)

CD-Rs dont work on standard DVD players? i didnt know that. but they'll play in DVD ROM drives on computers right? how about games consoles?

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 23 January 2003 19:07 (twenty-three years ago)

Thanks for pointing that out! Nope they never mentioned that! I think getting actual CD's made is a bit more expensive though.

So to everyone else do not hate me if you can't listen to do not listen if you hate us on a dvd player.

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 23 January 2003 19:08 (twenty-three years ago)

On avery very old DVD player. Games consoles and DVD ROM drives should be fine. Here's Michael with the science bit:

Graham (graham), Thursday, 23 January 2003 19:09 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh, I can't be bothered going through that again.

Unless you meant Michael Rodd, in which case sorry for butting in. Now, here's Judith with news of a device which should be a boon to all farmers...

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Thursday, 23 January 2003 20:48 (twenty-three years ago)

I'd like to take this opportunity to publically disown my contribution. I was drunk on love.

And beer.

mark p (Mark P), Thursday, 23 January 2003 21:29 (twenty-three years ago)

Just wondering if there is a spare copy that could be sent to the Ormskirk posters?

Celeste (Celeste), Thursday, 23 January 2003 21:58 (twenty-three years ago)

I was led to believe that it was a fully featured DVD with Arabian subtitles and behind the scenes documentary. I don't want one anymore.

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 23 January 2003 23:17 (twenty-three years ago)

Andrew - you can give me mine at the Skank. ;-)

Lara (Lara), Thursday, 23 January 2003 23:20 (twenty-three years ago)

When I get mine I can get copies out to anyone.

Chris V. (Chris V), Thursday, 23 January 2003 23:34 (twenty-three years ago)

(hi Ray!)

Y'know, since I'll be sending you mail in the near future *anyway* it might as well be me that sends you a copy (once the shipment from jel arrives here that is). We've already got to make a few extra copies for some folks here, so one more shouldn't be a problem!

Kim (Kim), Thursday, 23 January 2003 23:55 (twenty-three years ago)

eight months pass...
I couldn't find the ILX Comp 2 thread. But has anyone other than me & Sarah actually submitted a song? What's going on with the comp? Get off your asses, contributors!

NA (Nick A.), Friday, 17 October 2003 13:30 (twenty-two years ago)

This sounds intriguing.
Are there any copies left?

Lord Custos Omicron (Lord Custos Omicron), Friday, 17 October 2003 15:22 (twenty-two years ago)

I totally would if I knew how to make an mp3 or a CD-R of my shit, but currently I'm justing dumping stuff off the digital four-track (which I barely know how to use) onto a cassette via boombox. CASSETTES ROCK! CUZ THEY'RE THE ONLY THING I UNDERSTAND!!!

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Friday, 17 October 2003 20:43 (twenty-two years ago)

mei (mei), Saturday, 18 October 2003 07:13 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't know why mark p would want to disown his track from the first comp. I fucking love that song.

Bryan (Bryan), Saturday, 18 October 2003 07:17 (twenty-two years ago)

i hope it's still open when we finish recording. we'll have at least 7 songs spare..

the surface noise (electricsound), Saturday, 18 October 2003 07:18 (twenty-two years ago)

There's still time left! TAPES are fine, coz I can convert them to CD. So, get in touch if you want to send a tape or a cd-r. There is no dealine at present.

jel -- (jel), Saturday, 18 October 2003 07:45 (twenty-two years ago)

And I do have Jay Vee's submission as well as a few other mp3s. Please don't send any mp3s to me immediately -- I prefer getting them on weekends when I can instantly download them to my computer, and this weekend is out as I'm on holiday...

Ned at Martin's place (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 18 October 2003 11:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, here it is, the famous "Do not listen if you hate us" ILX compilation from the year 2002.

In case you did not know, there are also online pages for the other sets, so Merry Christmas.

Also, if any of the artists involved wish not to have their stuff available like this, let me know.
