I'm strongly considering bringing my pop combo to the fine shores of Noisyland & I was wondering if I could solicit some information from residents of said shores..

So. If I wanna play in your town, where do you recommend we play? also any phone numbers of handy people would be good too..

post here or email me. many thanks in advance!

I think we're aiming for Autumn '03, and Arc is definitely on the list ('twas actually the only place we'd contacted so far!)..

thanks for the suggestions so far! keep 'em coming!

Ah ha. Apparently you can email the King's Arms at kings.arms@clear.net.nz. Hope that's useful. Sleater-Kinney are playing there this weekend.

There's also the Temple, a bit of a singersongwriter (hippyish) venue... it's TINY but nice if the band's good, website www.temple.co.nz.

maybe demarnia lloyd will be in the audience, oooo

keith (keithmcl), Thursday, 5 December 2002 04:29 (twenty-two years ago)

who they?

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Thursday, 5 December 2002 04:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Demarnia Lloyd ain't a they, it's a she. The Temple is nice for sitting and watching, but not if you are onstage - unless you like being hella cramped on stage and having a cymbal in dangerously close proximity to your ass.

Definitely try the Wunderbar in Lyttelton (just outside of Christchurch). Wayne Connolly says; 'The Wunderbar itself is a retro-kitsch fantasy land that is an inspired mix of Tiki Hut, 50's rumpus room, department store and the MASH 4077th watering hole, finished off with a large helping of David Lynch ambience. By all accounts Bono and the Edge love it here.'

yeah we played at the wunderbar last weekend, it was cool. there was only about 10 people in there but that's ok, i dislike crowds.

duane, Thursday, 5 December 2002 14:07 (twenty-two years ago)

jim, theres also the crown and the cellar bar in dunedin, they are my favourite places to play. (though i think the crown would be better as the cellar bar dudes couldn't organise their way out of bed in the morning). i don't like Arc's P.A.

di smith (lucylurex), Saturday, 7 December 2002 04:15 (twenty-two years ago)

what's wrong with the PA? is it just a bad setup for louder bands, or is it just generally crap?

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Saturday, 7 December 2002 05:28 (twenty-two years ago)

i don't really know anything about technical things like PAs (sorry trad fem thing to say) but think the PA at Arc is not murky enough, everything too defined and not very "live" sounding. but i don't know what you look for in a PA, for all i know thats what you want.

di smith (lucylurex), Saturday, 7 December 2002 05:59 (twenty-two years ago)

and what about that time those hippies at Arc let some psycho throw a pint glass at my head. what a bunch of dumbos.

rainy (rainy), Sunday, 8 December 2002 21:20 (twenty-two years ago)

i am the Arc backlash.

di smith (lucylurex), Sunday, 8 December 2002 21:25 (twenty-two years ago)

same :-)

rainy (rainy), Sunday, 8 December 2002 21:28 (twenty-two years ago)

How bold! And yet I liked the place rather a lot. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 8 December 2002 21:56 (twenty-two years ago)

further evidence that Ned may or may not be a hippy!

rainy (rainy), Sunday, 8 December 2002 22:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Darn!
