where can i buy some nice posters for my walls?

gareth (gareth), Thursday, 5 December 2002 11:52 (twenty-three years ago)

Depends what you want. Uni poster sales will be full of the usual suspects (ie Usual Suspects posters) but the range is usually huge so you can get hold of something decent. But for things more personal you may need a specialist shop.

Pete (Pete), Thursday, 5 December 2002 11:57 (twenty-three years ago)

dont know really...*art* ones i guess, or places, or something

...what pictures have y'all got.

gareth (gareth), Thursday, 5 December 2002 12:04 (twenty-three years ago)

I have a Kandinsky picture, and a Star Wars poster. And, a whole load of pictures by me.

You can get prints of paintings from art shops and museum shops.

http://www.pushposters.co.uk/ is good for music posters.
http://www.parkermovies.com/ has loads of movie posters, though is a bit expensive.

Graham (graham), Thursday, 5 December 2002 12:45 (twenty-three years ago)

Most ILE posters are nice, so I am sure they wouldn't mind hanging on your wall for a while. You probably wouldn't even have to pay them.

Mooro (Mooro), Thursday, 5 December 2002 13:04 (twenty-three years ago)

haha, I got a proper eyes wide shut cinema poster from parker movies three years ago.

I was going to make mooro's joke but I think I was going to be, like, nasty in it. I hate myself.

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 5 December 2002 13:11 (twenty-three years ago)

Ooh, I have Kandinsky prints on my wall too. My local discount bookstore (BookHouse on Torrington Place, WC1E) has sets of themed art prints for sale at quite cheap prices, and they look good.

gareth (gareth), Wednesday, 11 December 2002 13:29 (twenty-three years ago)

Try dropping by any college campus in the fall. They have huge poster sales for college dorm rooms.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 11 December 2002 13:37 (twenty-three years ago)

Online but in London: http://www.itsrussian.com/catalog/post-pol.htm (note: I haven't tried this place but I like the look of some of the posters).

Tim (Tim), Wednesday, 11 December 2002 13:41 (twenty-three years ago)

All American malls have a store called Deck The Walls full of all the usual art posters. So, maybe on your next visit you can hit up a mall and a college. What fun.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 11 December 2002 13:47 (twenty-three years ago)

GBPosters.co.uk has some decent offerings, and they're quite quick with delivery.
Or you could by Smash Hits, they might have an A4 sized pic of someone from Eastenders or Hollyoakes.

no

ron (ron), Monday, 10 March 2003 16:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Since we're moving soon, I'm thinking maybe I should come up with things to put on the new bedroom wall. The walls of this room have been starkly bare for a couple of years now.

Ziggy Stardust poster? Or am I being an old fart?

H.R. Giger used to have a couple of items on his site I was interested in, but all this money transfer business bugs me too much.

I'm not necessarily looking for 'pretty' stuff, obviously. :) Maybe a poster of Johnny Depp would compensate...

ChristineSH (chrissie1068), Monday, 10 March 2003 16:52 (twenty-two years ago)

I think ron is right, it does look a little sparse. And especially not at more than $30!!!

jel -- (jel), Monday, 10 March 2003 16:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Christine, You definitely need a Ziggy poster. How could you question that?

Sarah McLUsky (coco), Monday, 10 March 2003 17:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, the place I was looking at online a while ago also had an Aladdin Sane poster... hmmm...

ChristineSH (chrissie1068), Monday, 10 March 2003 17:19 (twenty-two years ago)

some of those communist posters are cool, i liked this one

ron (ron), Monday, 10 March 2003 17:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Communist kitsch is dud, I had a Soviet recruiting poster in my office until the Polish janitor pointed out to me (in a roundabout way) how offensive it was to people who had lived under Communism.

Amateurist (amateurist), Monday, 10 March 2003 17:51 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm looking for a particular poster from the movie "In the Mood for Love". I think it was actually printed in Japan and there are two sizes (either of which would be nice to have). I used to see it on ebay but was broke at the time and didn't get it. I'm looking for it again. It's at posteritati in NYC for $400 bucks(!!!) which is BS. Anybody have any ideas or know any good on or off-line poster shops that sell Japanese and Chinese movie posters? (even ones located in Asia) (I've done the basic google searches, but maybe there's something I'm not seeing?)

oh also, the poster looks like this:

Holy fucking god that's a great poster.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 00:34 (twenty-one years ago)

any ideas Ned?

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 00:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Alas no, but I wish you the best of luck in finding it, 'cause that's a winner and a half.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 00:41 (twenty-one years ago)

There must be somewhere in LA for that, Spencer, no?

I will see if I can turn anything up in SF...I want me some nice posters, too.

the icebox (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 00:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Nice repros of fine art with multiple choices for matting and framing can be found at
art.com

I bought one item from them and was satisfied with the result.

Sean (Sean), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 00:51 (twenty-one years ago)

I looked on Larry Edmunds but didn't see it. They may be able to help, though.

nickn (nickn), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 01:14 (twenty-one years ago)

thanks! I'll give 'em a call.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 01:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Haha! The poster I want is on ebay with an hour to go and it's at $385! Oh well, I guess I'll wait for a reprint or scour Tokyo on a trip someday...

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Monday, 2 February 2004 06:08 (twenty-one years ago)
