Who is the British Josh? Who is the American Madchen? Who is the Antipodean Nathalie? Who is the European Duane? And so on and so forth....yes its another cliquey in-jokey referencey thread - THATLL TEACH YOU LURKERS for proving me wrong about your existence.

PS I am particularly interested in who the British Josh is.

Tom, Tuesday, 21 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

isn't it obvious? the pinefox.

meanwhile, nick is the british me. or at least i tell myself that.

fred solinger, Tuesday, 21 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Nicole is the American me. Except we're both Americans.

Ally, Tuesday, 21 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

'now remember lisa, an elevator is called a 'lift', a mile is called a 'kilometer', and botulism is called 'steak and kidney pie'.

um, if anyone wants to claim being the british me, i'd be delighted. i think a lot of answers to this could be gleaned from the get a room thread.

ethan, Tuesday, 21 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Geoff and I are the twin colonial rouges

anthony, Tuesday, 21 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I am sui generis.

Tadeusz Suchodolski, Tuesday, 21 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Excuse me, I am. So clearly we're twinned.

I guess Dan is the African-American me or something. All of a sudden I have a brother who's a lawyer and records hip-hop in the nude. And won't my parents be thrilled!

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 21 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

> All of a sudden I have a brother who's a lawyer and records hip- hop in the nude. And won't my parents be thrilled!

And now you've earned the right to put that "Esq." after yer name, Ned. :-)

Tadeusz Suchodolski, Tuesday, 21 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

should that be colonial rodgerings? hey bro!

Geoff, Tuesday, 21 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Hmmm...are there any English people who currently live in Canada and really hate it but WON'T LEAVE?

dave q, Wednesday, 22 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Fred, you are so not my Stateside brother. For one thing you dig U2 and for another, Ally loathes you whereas she is completely obsessed with me.

I like to think of myself as having the world view of Nitsuh, the temperament of Nicole and the intelligence of Mike Hanle y.

Nick, Wednesday, 22 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Where is Nicole? Did she disappear after the boring incident?

Richard Tunnicliffe, Wednesday, 22 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Eeeeethaaaan, come out to plaaaayyyy!

Greg, Wednesday, 22 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I think Ally and Emma have a lot more in common than they would admit. Just look at the wedding thread....

Pete, Wednesday, 22 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I kind of think of Ally and Emma together. It goes beyond the mouthy women thing. Maybe it's cause my sisters are called Ally and Emma.

Nick, Wednesday, 22 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Where is Nicole? Did she disappear after the boring incident?

I was wondering about that as well. She posted some good stuff. Does anyone know?

xoxo

Norman Fay, Wednesday, 22 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

No offence to Ally, but I am offended by this. I'm sure she is too.

Emma, Wednesday, 22 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

But who is more offended...Eh?

I see myself as the UK Josh, just a bit thinner and thicker - paradoxically.

Pete, Wednesday, 22 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

fine, greg, i'm the american you, only not evil and stuff. you get the goatee.

ethan, Wednesday, 22 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Nick, I am NOT obsessed with you. I am obsessed with Tom.

Anyhow, I am offended by this Emma thing because Emma has admitted to wearing pink, something I never do except in the privacy of my own home, and that's only because my beautiful Madonna shirt is pink, damnit. I mean, what, a message board can't have two beautiful "mouthy" nutball women? We have to be some sort of freakish cloning experiment? No, I think not.

Ally, Wednesday, 22 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I am proud to wear pink. Today I am wearing pink and purple and pale pale pink eyeshadow which does not make me look like an albino but instead makes me look lovely.

Emma, Wednesday, 22 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Pink makeup = good.

Pink clothing = argh.

Mind you, I have very pink and blue undertones in my skin, PLUS auburn hair, so wearing pink clothing makes me look like I am psychotic and have funny colored skin.

Ally, Wednesday, 22 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Well I am an English Rose with blue eyes and brown (highlighted blonde) hair so pink looks fantastic on me.

Emma, Wednesday, 22 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I only wear black and white anyhow.

Ally, Wednesday, 22 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Who is the yank ME then? I can't think of ANYONE. I remember Fred saying that I was the ANTI-HE at one point. So, maybe, who is the most unlike Fred?

And don't say Ally, she's already taken. And monochrome.

Sarah, Wednesday, 22 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

i would say that perhaps robin is the anti-me. either he or the pinefox. i say this because they are the two posters i've thought, at times, that i'd like to lovingly give a kick in the balls to, to get them to loosen up a bit. "lovingly" is the key word there.

i've now concluded that the british josh would be the bastard offspring of said 'fox and nick "what's" dastoor "y morning glory?" (yes, i am still full of spite after nick's denunciation of me.)

fred solinger, Wednesday, 22 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I think Fred and Tom are each others equivalents. Even if Tom believes in capitals and Fred does not.

Richard Tunnicliffe, Wednesday, 22 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Poor Tom.

Ally, Wednesday, 22 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Muh. You are all totally interchangeable.

mark s, Wednesday, 22 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Don't fret, Starry. I'll be the American you. We both adore the Apples in Stereo and would rather be DDR'ing. That's good enough.

Phil-Two, Wednesday, 22 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

To answer the Nicole question, she's quite well, just taking a break.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 22 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I cannot be equaled!

jel, Wednesday, 22 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

The white Dan Perry. There are those who would say that's redundant (and they get a swift punch to the nuts).

I unilaterally declare myself to be the US Al Ewing because everything I've read by him leads me to believe he's CRAZEE. I wanna be CRAZEE, too.

Dan Perry, Wednesday, 22 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

For some reason I think I might be the British Tadeusz, even though I can't even remember his surname right now :).

The anti-me: easy peezy, Emma squeezy ...

Robin Carmody, Wednesday, 22 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Bliney, you ARE frisky today!!

mark s, Wednesday, 22 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I want to be the American Madchen. What do I have to do?

Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 22 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Darling Fred said:

It's so funny you should say that! I think of you as the one poster whose sorry ass I'd like hurtfully to thrash, not in order to get you to loosen up a bit, but simply to cause you great physical pain and make you cry out pathetically.

'Hurtfully' is the key word there. Actually, 'pain' and 'pathetically' - they're key words too.

the pinefox, Wednesday, 22 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

i guess you could call that 'loosening up'.

ethan, Wednesday, 22 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

well, that's what a kick in the balls will do.

no, but seriously. i love the pinefox and i love robin, and i'd never dream of doing either harm, whether or not they feel the same is entirely up to them. it was a figurative kicking rather than a literal one; they are both posters who i enjoy immensely much of the time but the same things that make me laugh can, when taken too far, make me cry as well. i added lovingly, but i should've also added "affectionately." it would seem that by the pinefox's reaction that i came off far too bellicose and brusque, that i can't "joke" with him as i would with a josh or tom who know my "personality" better. if that is that case, and i greatly suspect that it is, i apologize humbly to both he and robin.

fred solinger, Wednesday, 22 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

This is quite the funniest thing I've seen in ages. I think we should have an ILE Royal Rumble.

Ally C, Wednesday, 22 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Funny, the joking always seems to work so well with me.

Josh, Wednesday, 22 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

That post merely proved that the pinefox is actually the British Me.

Ally, Wednesday, 22 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I AM UNIQUE. In the same way that everyone else is, of course.

David Raposa, Wednesday, 22 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I thought Pinefox was being sarcastic. If he was, it's more proof of how unfunny sarcasm is. If he was being serious, it's the funniest thing I've read all week.

Otis Wheeler, Thursday, 23 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Hey Robin, I've kinda thought that you and I were sorta each other's Doppelgängers too. Or you were the kid brother I always wanted to have, but who the gypsies stole, took to England and replaced with my obnoxious sister :-)

I also think dave q. is sorta my Evil Twin. Only I've been told (by reliable sources) that I'm The Evil One ... hmmm. And he's Canadian, though he's plooped his tukhes in London these days. Ah well, at least he knows who Czeslaw Milosz, Witold Gombrowicz, and Jerzy Kozinski are ;-p

Tadeusz Suchodolski, Thursday, 23 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Otis, that's why you have to assume he was DEADLY SERIOUS about his post. It makes it way, way funnier and also proves that he = me.

Ally, Thursday, 23 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

THAT'S OFFENSIVE TO GYPSIES!

Greg, Thursday, 23 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I'm too new to have an equal or an anti-me. and so far no one's personalities stand out too much except for Ally's and Dave Q's.

Lyra, Thursday, 23 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Oh, that's bad.

Ally, Thursday, 23 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Blimey, have the rest of us no personality?

RickyT, Thursday, 23 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

No, we're *unique*.

DG, Thursday, 23 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Antipodean Nathalie? Christ, I hope not. One of me is enough. I met up with a guy from a mailing list the other day. His impression of me? "I thought you'd be a silent and demure girl."

nathalie, Friday, 24 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

i think someone in new york said i'm a canadian otis. and tom used to mix me up with josh. but i'm not sure about either one. i don't know that i want to be the canadian version of someone else.

sundar subramanian, Friday, 24 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

one year passes...
I have been thinking of jel as the UK Ned. I think they are both lovely.

felicity (felicity), Sunday, 17 November 2002 03:46 (twenty-three years ago)

*blush* However, Jel likes Bon Jovi where I do not, so there is a permanent rupture.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 17 November 2002 05:40 (twenty-three years ago)

surely there is a British equivalent that you like and jel does not. But you are both very nice and prolific.

felicity (felicity), Sunday, 17 November 2002 05:44 (twenty-three years ago)

i have a feeling ned likes more british bands than jel period.

jess (dubplatestyle), Sunday, 17 November 2002 06:07 (twenty-three years ago)

ah, thanks Felicity! :-)

british bands I like: Iron Maiden. The Rolling Stones and the Kinks are okay, as are Teenage Fanclub.

jel -- (jel), Sunday, 17 November 2002 09:51 (twenty-three years ago)

ramosi = starry

dee aitch (david h), Sunday, 17 November 2002 10:00 (twenty-three years ago)
