Is Keith Tyson! I think his pictures are good, and he deserved to win. what do you think?

jel -- (jel), Monday, 9 December 2002 10:05 (twenty-two years ago)

I was surprised because I was under the impression that Serota hates fun. I'm quite pleased, although I was OK with all of them this year.

I was rooting for Keith Tyson all the way because someone told me he lives down my road. This may well be a lie, but I thought his work was great as well. I liked the photographer very muchly as well.

The pornography narrative and the giant full stops I didn't think much of at all.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 9 December 2002 10:58 (twenty-two years ago)

my daily had a picture and no text on A9 and called them all conceptualists. if i ran the world...

I saw that dweeb too. But thought the other person (bit of queen bee actually, has to be number one female in group of men) was jurt as bad.

suzy (suzy), Monday, 9 December 2002 15:17 (twenty-two years ago)

What about J*lian St*llabrass? Phwoarr, say I.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Monday, 9 December 2002 15:19 (twenty-two years ago)

I didn't watch the TV show - has he grown a second head or something? Or was he merely drrrrunk?

Liz :x (Liz :x), Monday, 9 December 2002 15:21 (twenty-two years ago)

yes he has always been a looker (kinda), he wz just *talking* like a v.bad book abt art

i know him sorta, from years back

mark s (mark s), Monday, 9 December 2002 15:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh the joy of hungover tutorials with J*lian, trying to make out I knew stuff about what I'd written. *sigh* He writes better stuff on the downfall of society ('Gargantua) than he does about specific art pieces, I think.

Bugger. That'll teach me to attempt to close my inverted commas halfway through loading a page. Still, art, eh?

Liz :x (Liz :x), Monday, 9 December 2002 15:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Err kind of lack of gossip per se. Afraid I'm always veh veh drrrunk at R*skin School dos. So glad I don't have to face these people as tutors any more the morning after.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Monday, 9 December 2002 15:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, and take that space out of the http. I am rub.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Monday, 9 December 2002 15:46 (twenty-two years ago)

A well deserved win even if I thought Catherine Yass had the edge. I loved her pieces on falling. Liam Gillick didn't deserve to be on the shortlist really i thought his work was fatuous and dull. any of the other three would have deserved to win.

Ed (dali), Monday, 9 December 2002 15:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Ed did you see the Gillick thing at the Whitechapel? That was great, I thought, and neither fatuous nor dull. The installation in the Turner show was nothing like as good, I thought, although I liked it in the context of the other stuff of his I've seen.

I like each of the Yass pieces on show individually, but as a group they = meh.

Tim (Tim), Monday, 9 December 2002 16:11 (twenty-two years ago)

sadly my friend t's entry for the prize this year = being knocked off her bike and cracking a rib so possibly i won't be going to see all this stuff at tate modern for a while yet

mark s (mark s), Monday, 9 December 2002 16:16 (twenty-two years ago)

I did not catch him at the Whitechapel, cna you link a picture? I'm trying not to speak in absolututes about art so I'd like to make clear that that Liam Gillick's piece was only fatuous and dull in my opinion and only fatuous because of his attitude in gis C4 interview.

Ed (dali), Monday, 9 December 2002 16:19 (twenty-two years ago)

That guys interview was awful, talking about his random "art machine". awful awful awful.

The coloured squares were pretty, the porn thing seemed utterly ace as an idea and that's the one I really want to see, and the falling stuff was kind of alright.

Graham (graham), Monday, 9 December 2002 16:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Haven't got a piccy, sorry, thought he took up the Whitechapel so I'm not sure a picture would be much help. I thought he was fine in the interview, I liked how he seemed so relaxed about the whole thing. (I think I'm right in saying that of the 4 nominees this year, LG is the one with a serious international rep., so it possibly was less key for him to win?)

(Ed you're not coming across like you're trying to speak in absolutes, btw... sorry if I am!).

the public is not ready for my visionary work

mark s (mark s), Monday, 9 December 2002 16:56 (twenty-two years ago)

I loved the random art generator. As someone who created a random compilation tape generator a few years ago, I'm all for this kind of nonsense.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 9 December 2002 19:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Prefer Daft Punk.

B.Rad (Brad), Monday, 9 December 2002 22:56 (twenty-two years ago)

bob zemko (bob), Thursday, 12 December 2002 20:07 (twenty-two years ago)

i mean, he let max wigwam talk and talk and then...

bob zemko (bob), Thursday, 12 December 2002 20:08 (twenty-two years ago)

three weeks pass...
I went to this on Monday. The Keith Tyson stuff annoyed me so much, it's so fucking boring and uninspired, though the thinker was kind of pretty as black aluminium hexagons go (it has meant to be shaped like a brain, right?). The falling exhibit was out of order so I didn't see that, though I really liked the flight one, and the pictures were kind of interesting/ I liked how the printed porn piece was setup as a billboard, with all the alternate version fo itself stuck behnd, and the great big ccrease. Her best bit was the punctuation only thing. I liked that, and the bronze punctuation was cooler after she explained it. The tiles were pretty but the Gillick thing was kind of a non-exhibit, right? I hope he does other interesting stuff.

Graham (graham), Thursday, 2 January 2003 16:25 (twenty-two years ago)

sixteen years pass...

Hmm, all of them.
