Putting up Christmas decorations at work: classic or dud?

Do you do this?

I am in the middle of doing so, and it's all looking a bit rubbish (bits of tinsel thrown around pot plants, year planner framed by tinsel). We have far too much tinsel!!!

I like putting the decorations up at home, but at work it seems too depressing!

I was really looking to forward to it actually, but found that the decorations have 'mysteriously' disappeared since last year (apart from the mini tree). I blame the Scrooge style technicians.

we used to get told off for putting tinsel up cos it can "set off the motion sensors with it's twinkling/if it falls down" according to scrooge-like premises staff. fortunately none of that here, the general office is covered in paper chains and paper snowflakes already, ours as yet is bare, but as my computer had died (am using someone else's currently) i may have little else to do for the rest of the week (yeah, right...)

Ours are decidedly low-key this year, coz we've got other things to think about, like putting everything in crates (we're moving out of our office on Christmas Eve and into the new one in the New Year). Cowley here I come! Grrr.

Having said that, I *do* have a neat strip of green tinsel around each of my monitors.

Anything to do with Christmas is shite.

I'm gonna go to the £1 shop and get the most gaudy decorations I can find! I'm turning this place into Santa's Grotto!

Get ones that play music and flash green and red! Guaranteed to make you the most popular person in the office!

Archel (Archel), Monday, 9 December 2002 12:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Xmas decorations have been banned in our office this year cos of the firemen's strike.

declare yr boss's desk an emergency yule log!!

My coworkers stuck a bit of red tinsel to the top of my screen and gave me a bunny rabbit carrying a basket of what look like pink and yellow *eggs* and wearing a sandwich board that bears the legend 'Bah Hum Bug'.

Madchen (Madchen), Monday, 9 December 2002 13:18 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't put anything up myself but the library crew has a holiday decorations committee. Some of the results are bemusing, but I like them.

We have wreaths on the doors at my office & a xmas themed plant up at the receptionist's desk, but that's about it. Oh, and some guy's screen saver was playing xmas music rather loudly for a week or so, but I think he was asked to cut it out.

Nothing says Christmas like an egg.

I got a scary note through my door from the A*gyle R*ad Christmas Committee Of Joy (something like that) asking me to decorate my windows appropriately - 'and come and meet us in the pub to discuss this year's theme!' Bah humbug indeed.

Archel (Archel), Monday, 9 December 2002 14:14 (twenty-two years ago)

i wanted a big menorah and a channukah bush and what ever they put up for the end of rammadan, but no such luck.

anthony easton (anthony), Monday, 9 December 2002 15:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Dud. Dud Dud Dud. However....

bits of tinsel thrown around pot plants

I heart Madchen's associates.

Last year I strung a bunch of colored lights all around the doorway to my office. They were the kind where you could control the kind of flashing, and I set it to this slow fade from color to color, which was pretty cool.

Of course I had to unplug them after awhile because all my officemates got annoyed. Maybe because every once in awhile I would put the lights on the "epileptic seizure-inducing" flash rate setting.

Jen (nstop), Monday, 9 December 2002 17:44 (twenty-two years ago)

one year passes...
5nappy 5naps in the office opposite mine put their christmas decorations up this morning. (although i think they are just taking pictures for their company christmas cards / promotional stuff)

koogs (koogs), Wednesday, 10 November 2004 09:16 (twenty years ago)

Scheisse! This is much too early. I want to put up my fibre-optic Christmas tree though.
