I am RILLY RILLY pissed off that I missed out seeing communism in action! I would've loved to have travelled behind the Iron Curtain and seen the brutalist architecture and heard the Songs of the Heroic Tractor Drivers. Apparently in the former East Germany they have 'ostalgie' nights where they play pre-89 TV shows, etc.

I heart 1938: cue fat comedian from Omsk: "THE SHOW TRIALS! What were we thinking of!!" He is not funny, and nor is this joke, really.

they have some kind of beer in east germany that's really disgusting and westerners thought they would be able to come along and destroy sales of it with their new fancy beer but people kept drinking it anyway = WORST ANECDOTE EVER TOLD

I hear that one of the best-selling novels in the early Stalinist USSR was called Cement. On the other hand, some heavy-handed Maoist Chinese propaganda film (Taking Tiger Mountain) inspired one of Brian Eno's best solo albums.
