Caution horrible news story. The Guardian version of this had more explicit details.

Notice stock BBC photo of a MYSTERIOUS HAND surfing the web too.

We need to invent a word that means "horrible, yet fantastic".

Nice 'more top cannibalism stories!' style sidebar. I just hope those neighbours who could 'drink a glass of beer with' this guy didn't sample any of his home made 'pork' scratchings...

Dan: "Ey man, das ist echt KRASS!" will do it.

Some details from the German news: prosecution have now said "we have no doubts that this man is sane" -- also, the investigation started when the German Interweb cops found a NEW ad from this guy, looking for more volunteers to be mutilated and eaten.

Well, a picture of a glass of beer and a plate of sausages would have been in even worse taste, so to speak.

"sane" in the sense of "dangerously mad"?

From the Frankfurter Algemeine Zeitung, translation by me just now:

The Berlin Psychiatrist Konrad W. Sprai describes Lustmord as "the extreme form of sadism". The highpooint for the cannibal is not the murder, but the consumption of the victim's flesh, according to Sprai. Sprai also said that cannibalistically inclined people can lead perfectly normal lives. The accused's homosexuality has nothing to do with his cannabalistic inclination or with his acting on these urges. "People like that appear quite normal, they don't behave unusally at all -- they have two faces."

[That "People like that" might refer to homosexuals or cannibals was the same in the original -- but that's the fucking FAZ for you.]

Colin Meeder (Mert), Thursday, 12 December 2002 15:43 (twenty-two years ago)

They don't behave unusually, but they have TWO FACES!!!???

Archel (Archel), Thursday, 12 December 2002 16:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, their own and one in the fridge for later.....boom boom! *sorry*

smee (smee), Thursday, 12 December 2002 16:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah I was going to add that smee... oh we are bad people.

What has this "cannibal" done wrong? Where's the evidence? The report says "apparently." Are we condemning people as cannibals on the basis of "apparently"? These actions were never proven to be attributable to him, even though he confessed to them. I think society has come to a pretty pass when we cannot discuss cannibalism in an adult and objective fashion. We need to understand the motivations of the cannibal. I think the victim was just looking to big up some publicity for himself by being "eaten." What is democratic about unthinking broadsides against cannibals?

Jasper Milvain, Thursday, 12 December 2002 16:12 (twenty-two years ago)

"Where's the evidence?"

They found deep-frozen human flesh, skeleton parts and video recordings at the scene. Isthat enough evidence for you?

, Thursday, 12 December 2002 16:32 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah i mean who's to say that the "victim" didn't make all of this up? he should be regurgitated and reconstituted and made to explain his actions. why should cannibals get the blame? he was the one who answered the advert. if you don't want to get cut up and eaten, you shouldn't volunteer to be cut up and eaten. end of story. everyone else's fault except his. it's the compensation/blame culture gone mad.

Eddie Reardon, Thursday, 12 December 2002 16:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh-ho, I get it, you're ironically pointing out the absurd attitude of "soft-on-crime" "liberals"! Oh, the wit! Oh, the irony! Oh, my sides!

Colin Meeder (Mert), Thursday, 12 December 2002 17:09 (twenty-two years ago)

The accused's homosexuality has nothing to do with his cannabalistic inclination

I expect you're all as glad as I am that they cleared that one up.
