Seriously, I happened to talk with the dad of one of my friends, who is a production designer and who worked on the Smooth Criminal and Black & White music videos with Michael. He told me the following (and I don't doubt his veracity):

Michael is a very nice, soft-spoken (very, very much so, in fact), gentle, cooperative and talented individual. Enormously talented. As oif by instinct, he could come up with a variety of dance moves right there, on the spot, as they were planning the direction, etc.

Also, circa 1988, in his bedroom (where my friend's dad attended the conceptual planning meeting for Smooth Criminal) HE HAD/HAS? A NUMBER OF MANNEQUINS. DRESSED IN 1920S CLOTHING. AND THE WALLS WERE COVERED WITH GIGANTIC MIRRORS, MANY OF THEM POINTED AT 45 DEGREES SO HE COULD SEE WHAT HIS NON-REFLECTED IMAGE LOOKS LIKE. AND HE WOULD HAVE TO GET HIS NOSE MAKE-UP RE-TOUCHED EVERY HALF-HOUR OS SO SINCE IT WOULD KEEP PEELING OFF - THIS WAS 14 YEARS AGO, BEFORE HE HAD X NUMBER OF FURTHER SURGERIES/FACE-LIFTS/ALL-NIGHT CHUCK-MY-CHEESE SLEEPOVERZ.

And yes, he slept in/sleeps in an iron lung. Gas-mask and all.
