This Friday at the King Of Corsica, Berwick Street Soho.

In the red corner, Dan and Joie (help did I spell Dan's wife's name right!) and their choir.

In the blue corner, several members of the Ladyfest tour.

Secondary attractions - assorted drunks and ILE posters.

I suggest convening in the Blue Posts on Rupert Street at 6 beforehand and being at the KoC for 8.30.

How about it?

Tom, Wednesday, 22 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

How about assorted stoned ILE posters?

dave q, Wednesday, 22 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Might work. Try it.

Tom, Wednesday, 22 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

My poster is going to feature me wearing a HOODED CAPE.

cringe

Sarah, Wednesday, 22 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Oh please, someone say something else. The si13nc3 is deadening...

Sarah, Wednesday, 22 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Oh dear, we thought last Friday's sarf of the river beer + curry would have broken the dreaded karaoke cycle but I fear not. It's all so predictable - pour alcohol down my throat and watch me go (or gogo dance).

Emma, Wednesday, 22 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Again, *JEALOUSY* pervades my being. Have fun, tipplers and dank-smokers.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 22 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I'll do my best to be there...but isn't the KoC in Berwick Street?

DG, Wednesday, 22 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

KnackerZoR it is. Can you change that DG?

Tom, Wednesday, 22 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Done0r.

DG, Wednesday, 22 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Tom goes for common misspelling #1. The correct answer is "Joei". (At least you didn't go for common misspelling #2: "Joel".)

This is going to be FUNFUNFUNFUNFUN. I don't know how many people I'm going to be bringing with me, though.

Dan Perry, Wednesday, 22 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

You don't know what you're letting yourself in for, Dan.

DG, Wednesday, 22 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I must agree. Pete the Barnet Ape will destroy you all.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 22 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I PHEAR no man nor ape.

Dan Perry, Wednesday, 22 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I do wish I was around on Friday and not in some stinking field of indiemen.

Nick, Wednesday, 22 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I wish I wuz not being forced to have seXoR with Jennifer Aniston, David Schwimmer and Jeremy Vine.

mark s, Wednesday, 22 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

No-ones forcing you Mark, you could come along you know.

DG, Wednesday, 22 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I cannot disappoint them, a chore tho it is. How cd I meet their gaze, week in week out till the series is cancelled. Even that will be a mixed blessing: first, I have to live with its being my doing, my betrayal. Second: repeats on heavy rotation, the reproach deeper on each return, until TVernity covers all in the fine Pompeiian ash of cathode- induced alzheimers.

However I may be round that way, kinda, a bit earlier: planning in process as we chat, with Dan. Sadly Nathalie is AWOP (ie absent w/o posting, for sensitive mediterranean types...)

mark s, Wednesday, 22 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Nick, maybe me and you should knock ash and travis on the head and go to the glittering delights of Berwick St.

Oh Aidan Moffatt, do you realise what I am missing for you...

carsmilesteve, Wednesday, 22 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Arggh. A party without me, it makes me sad. I wish I was there. I am tempted to invite everyone to the party I am going to this weekend but I'm not 100% sure inviting strangers to my friend's birthday bash is a great and sensitive idea.

Someone sing a ludicrious song for me.

Ally, Wednesday, 22 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Sarah, I think you ought to get a wizard's hat and a wand as well. Really.

Bill, Wednesday, 22 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Cause just a cape isn't good enough.

Bill, Wednesday, 22 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I'm warning you now, I've had my haircut0red. I will be UNRECOGNISABLE.

DG, Wednesday, 22 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I am going to do Rio by Duran Duran if they have it. I will bring it my special raw London edge.

Emma, Thursday, 23 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

The Ladyfest punXoRs are planning to do Total Eclipse of the Heart. Everyone cross yr fingers and pray for the Bonnie Tyler version. Although I haven't heard the Nikki French version for a while so it could just be do-able. Yas?

Sarah, Thursday, 23 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I had a wand in Manics fan phase. I could dig it out. I ordered a cape from eBay. Sadly when it arrived it looked more like curtains (=suXoR) so I dumped it at Robbos and has rarely been seen since. I don't have a wizards hat. BUT I SHOULD.

Sarah, Thursday, 23 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

What the heck team should I be on? I'm the only member of the Ladyfest tour with a VOICE left. They laughed at my throat drops... LAUGHED... way back in Sheffield.

Kate the Saint, Thursday, 23 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

sarah you have time to make a hat: you need sugarpaper and that glue which smells like marzipan (cuz it lasts sticky only for like, 20 mins, then hat will spring as mif by magic back into orig.paper shape, and wearer will be mocked...)

Urgent and key that someone TAPE THIS ENTIRE EVENT, for ILE Dubble Live Album!!

I shall be at Blue Posts from FIVE – unless plans have changed?? – to meet DJP and anyone else for TOURIST'S TEABREAK-type civilised whatever. If I am first there you will recognise me as I will be reading something poncy and pseudo as per...

mark s, Thursday, 23 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Could someone please sing Dancing Queen or Stand by Your Man.

anthony, Thursday, 23 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Wait a minute... do they have karaoke TRAVIS?!?! You know what me and Jane can do to Travis... Question is, is there a pitch control on the karaoke machine so we can do The Scottish Song at +10?

Kate the Saint, Thursday, 23 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Anthony, someone did an Abba medley last time. Thing is, we like to mix it up a bit and stray from the path of karaoke classics such as those you mention. We are more into DJ Pied Piper and Crazy Town.

Stand by Your Man = number one when I was born = scary.

Emma, Thursday, 23 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

How about My Funny Valentine or Mac The Knife

anthony, Thursday, 23 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Odd as it may seem Starry your cape is now being used as curtains. Old capes don't retire they just get to drape for ever more.

I think I want to sing Club Tropicana.

Martin, Thursday, 23 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Anthony, the second rule of karaoke club is: do not wreck classic tunes by bawling them out tunelessly and drunkenly to the wretches who come to the King of Corsica pub.

Emma, Thursday, 23 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Okay, opinions on wizard hats please!

This one is 16" tall, but this one is 15" and half the price. However, THIS IS A FULL COSTUME!!!

There WILL probably be Travis karaoke but I don't think it will be allowed. Of course I will probably have to do WIZZARD now. Kate must obviously be on MY team whichever one that is, coz she can sing and I sux0r.

Sarah, Thursday, 23 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Are you REALLY using my cape for curtains? BAH. It looked gr8 on eBay.

Sarah, Thursday, 23 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Well those are the four songs i can Karoke. I am sorry Emma. What do you recommend,

anthony, Thursday, 23 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Anthony, in KoC karaoke ability comes second to sheer drunken enthusiasm and performance so pick something to get the pub singing along with you.

Emma, Thursday, 23 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

One day, can we do the Japanese-style serious approach to karaoke? I'm really fed up with all this drunked catawauling.

Nick, Thursday, 23 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Okay last suggestion. I love to love you baby

anthony, Thursday, 23 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Anthony, I now feel bad for being such a karaoke Hitler. You do whatever you like. So long as you feel you can pull it off with the necessary aplomb.

Emma, Thursday, 23 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Or completely ruin the song whilst adding a raw London edge to it.

I am not sure if I will be there for this Friday so the on going feud between The Barnet Ape and Nasty Karaoke Lady may not continue....

Pete, Thursday, 23 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Excuse me, Pete, but you must attend. Dan will be unhappy without the attentions of the Barnet Ape.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 23 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I'll be in attendance and brandishing a MiniDisc recorder at Mark's behest.

Graham, Thursday, 23 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I think that is a bad idea. The horror will be preserved forever. Won't someone PLEASE think of the children?

DG, Thursday, 23 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I will be accepting bribes of alcohol for access to my pause button. Start bidding now.

Graham, Thursday, 23 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I am not going , i am askign these songs to be sung for me.

anthony, Friday, 24 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

So I've heard one or two things about ver karaoke over the weekend, but is someone going to Report Back? and also when will mp3s be available?

carsmilesteve, Monday, 27 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Oh, I see, it's all here

carsmilesteve, Tuesday, 28 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)
