This is my thread.

Greg, Wednesday, 22 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Which is yours and belongs to you. Can we talk about the Cavity Creeps?

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 22 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

We must whup Mr. Tooth Decay.

Watching When We Were Kings a little too often, eh?

JM, Wednesday, 22 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I must confess, I have no idea what any of this means.

Ally, Wednesday, 22 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

*sigh...*

Muhammad Ali: The Greatest Of All Time. All Time.

When We Were Kings: Movie about Mr. Ali (The Greatest Of All Time) and the RUMMMMMBLE IN THE JUNNNNNGLE v. Bug Ugly George Forman.

Mr Tooth Decay: Watch the movie; understand.

JM, Wednesday, 22 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

That's just way too much time and effort for me.

Ally, Wednesday, 22 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

That new movie starring Will Smith as Ali looks really good.

Wheeler, Wednesday, 22 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Good like Captain Cannolli and American Outlaws or good like an actual good movie? I'm guessing the first one, knowing you.

Ally, Thursday, 23 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

That Mandolin movie was the worst thing I've ever seen, I couldn't even sleep through much more than half of it, it was so bad. I'm hoping it will be good like American Outlaws. I don't like Ali, so I'm psyched to see the Fresh Prince portray him. I'm expecting an accurate portrayal. Lots of insight, hopefully.

Wheeler, Thursday, 23 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Squealer's nearly right. The reason is that the Fresh Prince is Fresh. I think it was Laila Ali that said he'd got it bang on, but what would she know? I've only seen half of "When We Were Kings" because I got fed up of Norman Mailer talking nonsense (what's up with that chapter in "The Fight"? "Norman was a good man. He knew Mr Ali..." I like the book, but that's mad) and went and watched my "Champions Forever" DVD or something.

"Who put the crack in the Liberty Bell? Ali!"

Greg, Thursday, 23 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I'm still mad that you left the three of us without warning trapped in that film while you played arcade games. I mean, really, we all just assumed you were going to the bathroom, you should've alerted us. No amount of Christian Bale in a beard is worth the agony.

Ally, Thursday, 23 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

one year passes...
I still haven't figured out the Mr. Tooth Decay thing.

only $2.98!

amateurist (amateurist), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 20:58 (twenty-two years ago)

That's even better than when Ali fought Superman!

Leee (Leee), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 21:01 (twenty-two years ago)

I still think Captain Cannoli's Mandarin is the worst movie I've ever seen. I think Ali should meet the Punisher??

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 21:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Ali would certainly have the edge, since he'd not need restrictive tights to show off his legs

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 21:09 (twenty-two years ago)

He should also fight Nicholas Cage.

Okay, go here:

then download this mp3:

It's an important document of revisionist history.

71 today. Along with Dylan, Warhol, and Nixon, I enjoying talking about him with students more than anyone--spent 20 minutes on him today. And this gives me chills every time:

(Sorry--no news on Mr. Tooth Decay.)

is this the best thread we have about Muhammad Ali?!?!

There's an excellent documentary about his trial as a conscientious objector on Independent Lens/PBS (I watched it via the app, which is the best use of my app-consumption money thanks to POV and Independent Lens and Frontline) and I felt a palpable surge of appreciation for him after watching it.

Here's the trailer (the full movie is only vieweable via the app) http://www.pbs.org/independentlens/videos/coming-soon-to-independent-lens-trials-of-muhammad-ali/
