Internet Weapons: classic or dud?

You know what I'm talking about, right? Someone sends you to a page that distracts you while it supposedly sends a virus to your computer, forcing you to run anti-virus software for a half hour to be safe or someone says, "Hey, if you think that's funny, check this out!" and when you get there, you're eyes are immediately assaulted with the sort of image that could get you fired or at least very embarrassed. (think about what I just wrote before you click the link).

What do we think of these weapons? Harmless (or harmful) fun or just plain stupid? And, also, what are some other good internet weapons that you've discovered or were the victim of?

I have just been victimized by Nude Spock's link.

I need to take a shower.

On a more topical note: I have rec'd 20 e-mails asking me to "check this file out!" in the past 2 weeks. All from different addresses - some from doctors, some from regular folk, some obvious spammers. Anyone else here receive this bountiful harvest?

If you post your REAL email address on the web, an email that you actually USE, you can expect to get shitloads of spam. You know that, right? Robots troll search engines for active pages and scrape off whatever they can find that looks like blah@blah.com. They do not bother with yahoo.com addresses, however! Whenever I bother with the yahoo.com mailbox, there's only messages from you guys and a few other people I know. My real email address receives NO unsolicited email whatsoever because I never post it.

Exactly. You should see how much spam I get at my hotmail address, because hotmail sells their addresses...

Anyhow, if you actually clicked on the link you deserve whatever it was you got.

My email is all over ILx. I get maybe two bitza spam a week max. Usually for viagra (guess their robots can READ WHAT I POSTED haha sigh). I opened up Kodanshi's at work but no one can see my screen. If they could they'd know I'm on ILx 24-7 anyway, so the sacking bit requires not goatsex.

Some idiot somewhere keeps sending me offers of advice (for a small fee) on the stock market. It's obviousy automated, otherwise they'd know I never have any money.
