Well who wants to put down money on the first crappy newspaper article/web article announcing our existence to the rest of the world....

Richard, Wednesday, 22 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I will put down money that it will be Entertainment Weekly, several months ago. How much do I win?

Ally, Wednesday, 22 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

really I didn't know that, looks stooopid for about 2 seconds. What I really meant(hastily backpedalling) is the national news media, ie The Times, Guardian etc....

Richard, Wednesday, 22 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

ILE shouldn't go mainstream, I couldn't handle the fame. The constant press intrusion, lies about me dating Cat Deeley or Jeniffer Love Hewitt, I couldn't take that!

jel, Wednesday, 22 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I was just teasin' ya :)

Anyways, the press already makes up ludicrious rumors about me and Russell Crowe, I'm used to fame.

Ally, Wednesday, 22 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

doh! major sense of humour bypass there Ally... ah yes the price of fame and all that. To be more serious I think a major influx of new people to the place could be a little destabilising for ILE/ILM with the Wanker to Intelligent Person ratio heading inexorably skywards..hey but I always was a pessimist :-)

Richard, Wednesday, 22 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Between Kodanshi's cravings, Mike Hanley's unique visions and my scintillating brilliance, we three will take care of all the useless newbies in our own way, I'm sure.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 22 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

As well Arthur, Geoff and I could be the new Theban Horde.

anthony, Wednesday, 22 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Anthony = Polytheistic Pope of the New Theban Horde

mark s, Wednesday, 22 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Thank You

anthony, Wednesday, 22 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Can I be the Naughty Pageboy?

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 22 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I guess so

anthony, Wednesday, 22 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I still have faith in *something* happening...

DG, Wednesday, 22 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Is someone writing up a treatment for ILE: The Movie? I sure hope so.

David Raposa, Wednesday, 22 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

wh da fudge is theban whatisface?

Geoff, Thursday, 23 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

well, seeing as The Guardian Online section today had article about weblogs about 2 years too slow, I'd estimate about 2003 for any IL* articles

m jemmeson, Thursday, 23 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Surely big question = what will it mean if IL* goes mainstream / can it happen / has it happened / ? etc. Real issues?

the pinefox, Thursday, 23 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Unlikely to happen now - no angle. ILM/E is mediawise Just Another Discussion Board albeit a good one, and doesn't have a friendly URL.

The heart of Freaky Trigger is the features, which are usually to long and knotty and esoteric and personal to be saleable. The regularly-updated bits - AICON, IHM etc. - were what got us the outside attention, and they're very very rarely updated now because I spend all my time on the boards, ha.

The highest ambition I've ever had for FT is to be quietly influential on individuals, and to be fondly remembered once we pack it all in finally.

Tom, Friday, 24 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I don't really care about fame & fortune, I'd just like to know that I'd done something productive that had made people happy.

DG, Friday, 24 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Well DG, ILE has made people happy, but it's probably the biggest threat to productivity I've ever seen in my life!

Tom, Friday, 24 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Heh, not the productivity of you plebs, productivity of moi.

DG, Friday, 24 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

seven months pass...
well, apparently the new Kid606 album is titled "The Action Packed Mentallist (my bold) Brings You the Fucking Jams". "Mentalist" used as synonym for "Insane" *is* an ilx-ism, right?

Mitch Lastnamewithheld, Monday, 25 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

'Fraid not.

N., Monday, 25 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

...and since Kid 606 is actually The Pinefox, I'm not sure that it would count anyway.

"...and anything else is just a bonus," said Ewing, pulling another Dunhill out from his seemingly endless supply and leaning back in one of the cheap hotel chairs, a snapshot in time, if you will, that this reporter counts himself lucky to document.

Nothing like this could ever break into the mainstream. Perhaps a little blib in an entertainment magazine, or something of a cult phenemenon, but I frankly would be extremely grossed out if lots of people started corraling through here and posting idiotic commentary. Um, wait... maybe I should not say that, since I am largely an idiot.
