Let's try this again:

Sorry to bring up politics in the midst of the conversations devoted to dildos, divorce, cars, and Germans, but this is excellent news. Whoever may fill his seat, the fact that Jesse Helms -- one of the most evil son-of-a-bitches to slither into American politics -- won't be in the Senate after 2002 is GREAT news.

Senator Helms to Retire

Tadeusz Suchodolski, Wednesday, 22 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

a good mst3k quote from this awful movie about a motorcycle gang; during a montage scene showing how bad-ass this gang is, they storm a guy painting his wife out in a country meadow and destroy his canvas. 'oh no', says crow, 'it's jesse helms's angels!'

heh.

two years pass...
he's still an evil mofo ... but at least he wouldn't have voted for bush's tax cut.

(presumably the one in 2003 ... he was still in the senate when the 2001 tax cut went through, yes?)

quote was originally in this washington post article, but i think that they require a subscription.

"I would not have voted for [President Bush's] tax cut, based on what I know. . . . There is no doubt that the people at the top who need a tax break the least will get the most benefit. . . . Too often presidents do things that don't end up helping the people they should be helping, and their staffs won't tell them their actions stink on ice."

-- Former senator Jesse Helms (R-N.C.), in a recent interview with Business North Carolina magazine.

why do you hate america, mr. helms? are you a class warrior?
