"I don't really have any plans for this year" as I watched the flash of fireworks and got a lungfull of smoke.

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 1 January 2003 20:09 (twenty-two years ago)

I was feeling happy to be hugging and kissing most of my oldest friends.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 1 January 2003 21:25 (twenty-two years ago)

first one was - "i wish my boyfriend was here", closely followed by "yikes, all this confetti is going to get in my hair" and "why aren't they playing camera obsucra?"

sand.y, Wednesday, 1 January 2003 21:29 (twenty-two years ago)

wow, trippy beatles songs like 'it's all too much' were *made* for dvd surroundsound.

masonicboom, Wednesday, 1 January 2003 21:35 (twenty-two years ago)

first thought after midnight: "my head hurts and I want to go to bed"

first thought in the morning: "my alarm goes off in ten minutes and my head hurts so I'm going to turn it off"

first thought when I finally bothered to get up: "my head hurts and I feel too sick to eat but I should get up and look bleakly at other people eating lunch anyway or they'll shout at me and make it worse"

I wasn't even hungover, I just have a headache most of the time. I wonder if there's something wrong with me or if everyone feels like this and I just need to recalibrate my mental well/ill meter.

Rebecca (reb), Wednesday, 1 January 2003 22:01 (twenty-two years ago)

"I want to watch Star Wars." I actually missed the midnight countdown, but knew what I needed to see this morning.

dleone (dleone), Wednesday, 1 January 2003 22:50 (twenty-two years ago)

I was half-asleep, so it was something like "wikka wang wang woobajoobafrip"

Curtis Stephens, Wednesday, 1 January 2003 22:54 (twenty-two years ago)

"can i go home now?"

Dave M. (rotten03), Wednesday, 1 January 2003 23:52 (twenty-two years ago)

"Ooh, I get to speak to Sarah in a couple of minutes!"

Or something about Jools Holland, probably.

Mark C (Mark C), Wednesday, 1 January 2003 23:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Thinking how cool it would have been if the mention of midnight re:24 on TV treats of the year (at about 12:04, I don't think much) had been edited to be exactly on the stroke of midnight.

Going to bed at a sensible hour solves the headache thing. It's not worth it though.

Graham (graham), Thursday, 2 January 2003 00:39 (twenty-two years ago)

I've been trying. I still feel really terrible if I wake up before the time I get up if I've been up till gone dawn anyway, so I end up sleeping for 14 hours and then not being able to get to sleep early enough. Even if I unexpectedly find some willpower and keep to a more normal personal timezone for days at a time I get the headaches until the evening, feel worse and worse every day I see any sunlight, and then feel so bad I let myself screw it up again. Plus I don't get to use the internet during daylight and I've forgotten what else I ever did because there isn't much round here and I'm too stupid to create my own entertainment.

(I was going to be in bed by eight minutes ago but I was also going to post a long and not very interesting question and I'm so far being too nervous to do so, as if I wasn't posting equally worthless, embarrassing and annoying things to other threads. Er, carry on, everyone. Stopping this kind of thing should also have been on my resolutions. Actually it was but I'm ignoring it for now. Sorry.)

Rebecca (reb), Thursday, 2 January 2003 01:12 (twenty-two years ago)

mike a (mike a), Thursday, 2 January 2003 04:38 (twenty-two years ago)

It was probably "thank goodness the fireworks right outside have stopped, maybe now the dog will stop yapping his head off at them" -or something very similiar.

First thought upon ball dropping was something like "I feel a bit dizzy." First words were more like"wikka wang wang woobajoobafrip." Also, I remember really wishing I had some nice champagne instead of f-n rolling rock. Yuck!

First thought after waking up: 'Hmmm... Feel cozy... Want coffee...'

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 2 January 2003 15:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 2 January 2003 16:04 (twenty-two years ago)

"I don't really like champagne. Still, best pretend." This thought was closely followed by "Mm, any crisps left?"

Archel (Archel), Thursday, 2 January 2003 16:09 (twenty-two years ago)

"Great, it's finally 2003 and I can go for a piss at last and not miss anything."

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 1 January 2004 17:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Another thing I've been thinking about is: What is the Spanish equivalent for a Ramones style 1,2,3,4 - uno, dos, tres, cuatro, doesn't work because cuatro has too many syllables. Uno, Dos y Tres works quite well, but is it right?

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 1 January 2004 17:31 (twenty-one years ago)

the extra syllable is fine i think

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 1 January 2004 18:09 (twenty-one years ago)

First thoughts of 2004:

"Oh my God my eye hurts and this champagne tastes really good but I can still pick out the alcohol taste in it I am SO not in the mood for alcohol right now I want to drink some more water but I think I'm going to sip some more champagne so I can be sociable and it's far too warm and humid for a January 1st and this is totally unlike any New Year's Eve/Day thing I've celebrated before and I've got to greet as many people as I can and oh my God I need to get to some eyedrops and wow, cool, they're playing '80s songs at the downtown fireworks displayfest and HEY, that's 'Tainted Love'!"

Tenacious Dee (Dee the Lurker), Thursday, 1 January 2004 19:18 (twenty-one years ago)
