Would you like to marry me? And if you like you can buy the ring.

I feel bad for inappropriately hijacking the despair thread, so I'm going to do my virtual dancing around and beaming here, then you can feel free to ignore it.

I ASKED MATT TO MARRY ME ON XMAS EVE AND HE SAID YES!! WE'RE, LIKE, ENGAGED!!

Mooro (Mooro), Thursday, 2 January 2003 11:15 (twenty-two years ago) link

congrats! since you asked does he get the ring?

geeta (geeta), Thursday, 2 January 2003 11:19 (twenty-two years ago) link

Yeah, I got him a ring but now he will get one for me to match (I hope!)

Archel (Archel), Thursday, 2 January 2003 11:23 (twenty-two years ago) link

I'm dead chuffed for you. Will you wear a pretty frock and red knickers?

Madeleine (Madeleine), Thursday, 2 January 2003 11:25 (twenty-two years ago) link

I haven't thought about the outfit yet, but I'm pretty sure it will involve a gorgeous tiara from the shop I used to live above. Every day I drooled over them and cursed the lack of a suitable occasion...

Archel (Archel), Thursday, 2 January 2003 11:42 (twenty-two years ago) link

Congratulations Archel!

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 2 January 2003 13:08 (twenty-two years ago) link

yes, congrats to you both.

Alan (Alan), Thursday, 2 January 2003 13:30 (twenty-two years ago) link

Congrats, welcome to the club.

Chris V. (Chris V), Thursday, 2 January 2003 13:52 (twenty-two years ago) link

Curses, missed the boat with this one.

Congratulations Archie. Can I be the maid of honour?

Mark C (Mark C), Thursday, 2 January 2003 13:58 (twenty-two years ago) link

So very lovely. Makes up for being back at work today, it really does. Hurrah for Archel & Matt! I hope you're going to let him know how happy a cadre of mentalists are, Arch.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Thursday, 2 January 2003 14:03 (twenty-two years ago) link

No Mark, but you can be the DJ if you like :)

Liz, he will be delighted that you all approve. I may even show him this thread later, so no scurrilous comments please!

Archel (Archel), Thursday, 2 January 2003 14:08 (twenty-two years ago) link

Congratulations, felicitations, felicidades!

I'd suggest no tiara and some spectacular hat instead, 40s style...but I see there is no point in negotiating the tiara. And men with rings, not very sure about it.

anyway,it is good to be back at work -and at ilx- with good news about lovely people

arantxa, Thursday, 2 January 2003 14:15 (twenty-two years ago) link

Awww, well done.

Graham (graham), Thursday, 2 January 2003 14:20 (twenty-two years ago) link

I may even show him this thread later, so no scurrilous comments please!

That is inviting trouble, but not from me. Many congratulations Archel + Matt.

stevo (stevo), Thursday, 2 January 2003 14:23 (twenty-two years ago) link

Hooray for Archel and Matt!

rosemary (rosemary), Thursday, 2 January 2003 14:50 (twenty-two years ago) link

Many congratulations! Did you go down on bended knee to propose?

Details! We want details!

C J (C J), Thursday, 2 January 2003 14:50 (twenty-two years ago) link

congrats!

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Thursday, 2 January 2003 15:29 (twenty-two years ago) link

I didn't get on one knee. I just took him for a walk and claimed I had an early Xmas present for him, then gave him the ring as we stood on the beach in the dark. I don't think I managed to actually get the words out, but in anticipation of this I'd written 'will you marry me?' on a bit of paper inside the ring box... so that was ok.

Archel (Archel), Thursday, 2 January 2003 15:37 (twenty-two years ago) link

congrats!

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Thursday, 2 January 2003 15:43 (twenty-two years ago) link

Dark beach scene sounds lovely!

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 2 January 2003 15:46 (twenty-two years ago) link

Arg - that's the most romantic thing ever. Congrats guys!

mark p (Mark P), Thursday, 2 January 2003 15:51 (twenty-two years ago) link

That's so lovely.

(did you bring a torch as well in anticipation of him not being aable to read the romantic note on the romantic dark beach?)

Graham (graham), Thursday, 2 January 2003 15:55 (twenty-two years ago) link

Rah rah! :-)

(And yes I'm back. FINALLY. My home internet connection decided not to work, and I just *love* how the cable people have no idea why...)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 2 January 2003 15:59 (twenty-two years ago) link

Wow! Congratulations, Archel.

felicity (felicity), Thursday, 2 January 2003 16:02 (twenty-two years ago) link

No torch... we had to find a streetlight in the end.

And thanks everyone!

Archel (Archel), Thursday, 2 January 2003 16:06 (twenty-two years ago) link

Yay! Congratulations Archel! Make sure you get a decent dj.

Nicole (Nicole), Friday, 3 January 2003 01:23 (twenty-two years ago) link

Congrats Archel!

And commiserations to MarkC on being sorely dissed by Nicole.

Tim (Tim), Friday, 3 January 2003 11:23 (twenty-two years ago) link

(btw don't buy the ring from a bloke with four burnt-looking fingers and one giant lidless eye)

mark s (mark s), Friday, 3 January 2003 11:41 (twenty-two years ago) link

B-b-but together Matt and I would be powerful, and terrible! All would love us and despair! What do you mean, 'take it back to Mount Doom and head down to Argos'?? Grr.

(We might avoid DJ controversy actually as Matt will probably defy protocol and hog the decks at his own reception...)

Archel (Archel), Friday, 3 January 2003 11:58 (twenty-two years ago) link

CONGRATS! (And in deference to your request, no jokes about you going down. On one knee. Ooh, that's not helping.)

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 3 January 2003 14:23 (twenty-two years ago) link

Congratulations!

smee (smee), Friday, 3 January 2003 14:27 (twenty-two years ago) link

Congratulations, I'm pleased for you both.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Friday, 3 January 2003 19:30 (twenty-two years ago) link

DV (dirtyvicar), Sunday, 5 January 2003 11:16 (twenty-two years ago) link

Gosh, congratulations. You brave!

toraneko (toraneko), Sunday, 5 January 2003 12:37 (twenty-two years ago) link

But surely you could just have found a party to wear the tiara to?

Big congratulations from me and Neil xxx

ailsa, Sunday, 5 January 2003 23:06 (twenty-two years ago) link

I didn't know it was you, Mark C! I am just still pissed at the awful dj I had for my wedding, I issue this word of caution re: djs to all and sundry.

Nicole (Nicole), Sunday, 5 January 2003 23:08 (twenty-two years ago) link

Congratulations! I think you should wear a tiara for the whole engagement period.

(Also congratulations Ronan for working out how to type with an accent.)

nabisco (nabisco), Monday, 6 January 2003 05:54 (twenty-two years ago) link

Congratulations Archel, sounds like a lovely proposal, all the best.

Anna (Anna), Monday, 6 January 2003 10:08 (twenty-two years ago) link

Nicole, I don't think I will be the DJ. Shame, I'm very malleable. Not up for the soundclash either? I shall whup you with my Francoise Hardy!

Mark C (Mark C), Monday, 6 January 2003 21:17 (twenty-two years ago) link

two years pass...
Revive! And a mere two years later... we are actually getting ready to do the deed.

So, I was looking around for a thread/threads on nice readings/poems for weddings which I'm sure we've had but I can't find it/them.

And rather than start a new one I came back here. Any thoughts?

Archel (Archel), Thursday, 10 February 2005 14:27 (nineteen years ago) link

Haha and I can't believe I quoted the Smiths in regard to my own wedding. It's a bad omen, surely.

Archel (Archel), Thursday, 10 February 2005 14:28 (nineteen years ago) link

"I don't dream about anyone . . . .except myself . . . "

Sorry, that's mean.

Have you fixed a date yet?

Johnney B (Johnney B), Thursday, 10 February 2005 14:30 (nineteen years ago) link

Indeed, 2 July.

Archel (Archel), Thursday, 10 February 2005 14:31 (nineteen years ago) link

the wife and i used this:

i carry your heart with me (i carry it in
my heart) i am never without it (anywhere
i go you go, my dear; and whatever is done
by only me is your doing, my darling)

i fear
no fate (for you are my fate, my sweet) i want
no world (for beautiful you are my world, my true)
and it's you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you
here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life; which grows
higher than soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart

i carry your heart (i carry it in my heart)

e.e. cummings

Big Baby Bingo (Chris V), Thursday, 10 February 2005 14:34 (nineteen years ago) link

Nice!

Archel (Archel), Thursday, 10 February 2005 14:49 (nineteen years ago) link

In keeping with the thread title, you could do like my husband and I did and have a (highly inappropriate in this case) Morrissey song at your wedding. We had "The more you ignore me, the closer I get".

kate/papa november (papa november), Thursday, 10 February 2005 14:52 (nineteen years ago) link

Aw! Well, we are having songs (probably Andreas Scholl at the beginning and Doris at the end) but I quite fancy a reading halfway through as well.

Archel (Archel), Thursday, 10 February 2005 14:55 (nineteen years ago) link

A reading? Surely Dan speaking of bootyflakes is the answer. Or not.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 10 February 2005 15:13 (nineteen years ago) link

I wrote a poem for our wedding. It was cheesy and therefore perfect.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 10 February 2005 15:15 (nineteen years ago) link

Congratulations, Archel & Matt!

youn, Thursday, 10 February 2005 15:22 (nineteen years ago) link

I wrote a poem for our wedding. It was cheesy and therefore perfect.

"I think that I shall never see
A hottie as lovely as Joei."

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 10 February 2005 15:23 (nineteen years ago) link

Yeah, then I slapped her on the ass.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 10 February 2005 15:43 (nineteen years ago) link

one month passes...
I always wanted to marry Billy Mackenzie.

Quit glaring at Ian Riese-Moraine! He's mentally fraught! (Eastern Mantra), Friday, 18 March 2005 13:57 (nineteen years ago) link
