I'm fed up of seeing the remains of chewing gum everywhere

The pavements round here are covered in bits of spat out chewing gum, it's very very depressing.

What is the appeal of chewing gum and why do people have to spit out on to the pavements?

this is basically chewing gum: Classic or Dud?

whatever you do, do NOT go to magic mountain amusement park near los angeles and ride the gold rusher rollercoaster:

on the way up the first hill, there is a sign so collected with bubble gum that it protrudes out nearly 800cm (2.5 feet).

Yuck!

Gum tends to make my jaw hurt but sometimes it's nice to freshen one's breath.

Chewed Gum Collection = yuck always. And by that of course I mean dud.

Oh yes. And I spit my used gum in the trashcan.

little indignities like improperly disposed-of chewing gum that really speak to much larger issues of irresponsibility. on the other hand, i don;t agree with some sort of fascist punishment for those who spit it out with little regard. it would just be nice if everyone took a little more responsibility for themselves with out any coersion.

Worst is accidentally touching used gum hanging from under a table in a restaurant. BLECH!

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 2 January 2003 21:27 (twenty-two years ago) link

that is the worst. that should probably be listed as #2 for top reasons to wonder about the cleanliness of a restaurant kitchen, #1 being the condition of the bathroom.

argh, i'm out of gum. i love gum, i'm a total addict. i am at the point where i don't think i can digest without it. it keeps me from snacking between meals, it helps me to not drink, etc. etc.

however, spitting gum anywhere other than rubbish bin or ashtray is littering, a crime of inconsideration so disgusting it shoul be punnishable by having yer tongue cut out.

this is a crime of littering, not a fundamental flaw of gum-chewing.

Gum chewing is ugly.

Outside Kelvinbridge underground station in Glasgow there is a heart shape made enytirely out of gum remains. Outside Chalk Farm undergrund station in London there is more gum remains clustered round one lamp post than I've ever seen anywhere else.

when aliens excavate earth's husk in 30 million years time, they will examine the yes thin but oh so dense chewing gum layer and draw similar conclusions re alvarez, dad and kid, and the mineral layer which explains the extinction of the dinosaurs

viz that a giant asteroid made of chiclets extinguished life as we know it

(haha when lyra of HIS DARK MATERIALS goers to will's oxford, she is baffled by all the little white circles on the pavement)

Cities seem pretty ugly/dirty (in a usually appealing way) to me anyway, so i don't much care about street rubbish. That said I always dispose of gum in bins, what's the difference in having a few more tasteless chews?

I can't face the outside world today, oh foul streets of gum, you shall taunt me no more.

jel -- (jel), Friday, 3 January 2003 13:15 (twenty-two years ago) link

and it's true, if you swallow chewing gum, it sticks top your insides and kills you.
