Spring Break

Starting to think about where I want to go this year with my bf. We decided we want to take a trip somewhere within the US. We've been to NYC a bajillion times, so we want to go somewhere new.

I was thinking maybe a road trip to New England. Or we could take the train. Or we could get a cheap flight somewhere. Hmmm... Maybe San Francisco? Never been there... He says he only wants to go north or west - not south.

Anyway, any suggestions? I was thinking maybe we'd go in the spring...

is spring break the holiday at the end of may?

how about helsinki?

i have plans for the end of may too!

gareth (gareth), Friday, 3 January 2003 14:49 (twenty-two years ago)

oh sorry, you said in the us

how about chicago-seattle roadtrip?

gareth (gareth), Friday, 3 January 2003 14:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Hmmm... I live in Richmond, VA. Do you mean we'd fly in to chicago, rent a car, and drive to seattle??

Which is more interesting to visit - seattle or chicago?

I don't have an official spring break cuz I'm not in school any more. But late May sounds like a nice time to travel.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 3 January 2003 14:53 (twenty-two years ago)

i have been to neither, although i would like to try and get to both this year.

if you have the time, i think flying to chicago, driving to seattle, and flying back qould be good? depends if you like roadtrips! i would have to do this on amtrak if i was to do it, and that would be quite pricey i guess...

how about flying to seattle, and then having a look at some of the WA scenery too?

gareth (gareth), Friday, 3 January 2003 14:59 (twenty-two years ago)

When's you're spring break? Because you really don't want anything to do with New England until around May.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 3 January 2003 15:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Don't have any dates set just yet, just thought that might be a pretty time to travel - not too hot, not too cold. What's a nice cozy town to visit in New England? I like big cities too though... Hmmm...

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 3 January 2003 15:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Brattleboro?

gareth (gareth), Friday, 3 January 2003 15:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm planning on going to Austin, TX. Should be nice and warm around that time. Unfortunately, I'll miss SXSW by about a week. Consider it as an option if you can hit the week of SXSW.

cprek, Friday, 3 January 2003 15:53 (twenty-two years ago)

That's pretty.
So is this:

I really like Victorians.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 3 January 2003 15:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Undoubtedly Chicago, because of our taste in public art.

Amateurist (amateurist), Friday, 3 January 2003 16:10 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm sure SXSW is awesome, but I just checked their page and non-students are $400+ for music only. *sigh*

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 3 January 2003 16:13 (twenty-two years ago)

yipes!

cprek, Friday, 3 January 2003 16:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Hmmm... Those cows are just great. But we've got these:

Why aren't you going to Cancun or Lake Havasu?
Seriously, though, New England in the Spring is almost overwhelmingly beautiful. Vermont is nice, and I also hlove Great Barrington is Massachusetts. I used to go to school there. A lot of New Yorkers have a second home there, so the town has some great restaurants and record shops. It is a small plavce, however, so one can disappear into the woods quite easily. I also like Amherst. Northampton is a little bit too much of a college town for me.

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Friday, 3 January 2003 16:46 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll second that recommendation of western Mass. The Berkshire area is one of the most beautiful places on the planet, plus full of arts-related organizations and events, especially in summer. (Though I am biased as I also went to college in Great Barrington--Aaron we must have gone to the same school :))

Do *not* go to Austin during SXSW. bad time to visit. The entire city is packed, shows are hard to get into, and most of the bands playing aren't local. Why expend all that energy to see a 20 minute set by a band from Chicago or NYC?

At other times Austin is a wonderous city. Too much later than May and it's too hot.

San Francisco is beautiful and you should go if you've never been. So is New Orleans.

That Girl (thatgirl), Friday, 3 January 2003 18:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Been to New Orleans. Was very interesting. Stayed in a victorian B&B with my mom and sisters. Got trapped in a window-less cajun mystic store during a power outtage. Went to the zoo. Took a boat ride. Saw lots of porno on buildings. WAs great fun.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 3 January 2003 18:45 (twenty-two years ago)

They broadcast porn onto the buildings????? HONEY, PACK THE BAGS!

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 3 January 2003 18:46 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm curious if anyone here has actually been to any of the spring-break Meccas of collegiate fleshpot excess during spring break. I'd always watch this crap on MTV when I was growing up, horrified and fascinated.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Friday, 3 January 2003 18:50 (twenty-two years ago)

I totally wanted to go, but then joined a group that always went on singing tours to locations that weren't full of sex-crazed hotties in bikinis. (If I'd gone the a capella route, I could have spent spring break in Bermuda. Sigh.)

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 3 January 2003 18:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Come to Cleveland and join in our Super Bowl victory celebration!

Failing that, a trip to the mountains is always nice.

two months pass...
Revive! It's been over 2 months. I know you have lots of new suggestions.

Was just talking to my bf about this again... Where should we go? How's Philadelphia?

Sarah McLusky (coco), Monday, 10 March 2003 16:31 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah Mike, I went on one of those titty tours years ago. Cancun!

Chris V. (Chris V), Monday, 10 March 2003 17:16 (twenty-two years ago)

In my bedroom. No, I'm kidding I never went. A few of my good friends have gone, and they have some good stories that made me jealous at the time.
