But Kate, you are a girl in a rock band that has been reviewed in Vogue, living with a fashion expert who is friends with rock stars! Your house would be the first bombing target!

Good point, Julio. I have recalled my suicide bombing team.

B-B-But I'm really cool. Does that mean I'm getting kicked off ILX?

it's odd how people's definitions of cool vary. i think of myself as the most deeply uncool person alive. 'cool' 4 me is an extension of the idea of trendy or popular or fashionable - none of which i am except by accident. it's this idea of cool as an external quality that u can adopt or assume by doing or wearing something that i want 2 destroy.

Cool is a category others assign you to, either with positive (groovy) or negative (poseur) connotations. Anyone who nominates self as cool pretty well defines uncool.

Kate, this is the coolest thing you've ever said.

Nothing, just that cool people never jump up and down about their coolness or the coolness of their activities - to do so is a task for someone else.

My favourite comversation about this was at a comic convention some years ago. One of my pals asserted that there were far more cool people in attendance than there used to be. My friend Dave spluttered and said that "Cool people don't know that events like this even exist." It's all relative, which relates to ILE too. Compared to a middle aged white man who works in computing (that's me), almost anyone is cool.
