Tom (Groke), Sunday, 5 January 2003 14:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Nobody voted for xXx?

jel -- (jel), Sunday, 5 January 2003 15:04 (twenty-two years ago)

why no 'Fellowship Of The Ring' - sure it came out at Christmas 2001 but i think Xmas films from the previous year should always be included in the following year's poll - i didnt see the film until 2002 (if my memory serves correct) - same goes for Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back - a very entertaining film i thought, were hardcore Kevin Smith fans really disappointed by it?

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 5 January 2003 15:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Since the two LOTR films were released a year apart, and the second one makes a strong showing, I don't see grounds for wanting the first in there too.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 5 January 2003 16:07 (twenty-two years ago)

i would have liked to see FotR at 1, 2, 4 and 7

mark s (mark s), Sunday, 5 January 2003 16:48 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't see grounds for wanting the first in there too.

because its brilliant in its own right - if anything you could count the two of them together

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 5 January 2003 16:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Looking at my ballot, I see I voted for the wrong Harry Potter, but I'm guessing it wouldn't have placed anyway?
4 in the top ten here = not bad
vs. 2 in the top ten for singles
vs. 0 in the top ten for albums ;)

Vinnie (vprabhu), Sunday, 5 January 2003 18:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Wahhh, no one else voted for Atanarjuat? Lame!

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Sunday, 5 January 2003 19:36 (twenty-two years ago)

both donnie darko and royal tanns came out in 2001... what gives?

so is scratch... did i miss read the directions?

i probably did.

msp, Sunday, 5 January 2003 22:29 (twenty-two years ago)

They came out in the UK in 2002, though.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 5 January 2003 22:32 (twenty-two years ago)

you guys rated Attack of the Clones over Ghost World? yeesh. I've lost all respect for...eight of you.

Justyn Dillingham (Justyn Dillingham), Monday, 6 January 2003 05:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Ditto with Mulholland Drive, that's 2k1.

Leee (Leee), Monday, 6 January 2003 06:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Ghost World was 2001 though - in the UK and US. I thought that Aturanjurat was 2001 until I checked for my top 40. The large spliot of voting ILE/ILM I assume is generally equal to the larger number of ILM posters, respondees. It shows however that ILE is the home of the Lord Of The Rings and SPider-Man fans (ie so called Low Culture rules on ILE). Unless you count out Y Tu Mama Tambien which shows Mexico and wanking into swimming pools roolz.

Pete (Pete), Monday, 6 January 2003 10:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, Ghost World (in the UK, anyway) came out the same week as the first Harry Potter film (2001), thus meaning outside of London, no fucker got to see it in a cinema. A great film, though, obviously.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Monday, 6 January 2003 10:26 (twenty-two years ago)

The poll was flexible on dates - applying the Village Voice "made its impact" in 2002 rule.

Tom (Groke), Monday, 6 January 2003 10:52 (twenty-two years ago)

I think Ghost World should win every year, from now until the end of time.

kinski (kinski), Monday, 6 January 2003 11:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Ghost World was released in Belgium in 2002, which is why I voted for it.

'Signs' too low, 'Scratch' too high. Other than that, not a bad result overall. Clearly, I need to see 'Donnie Darko' soon.

Jeff W, Monday, 6 January 2003 11:07 (twenty-two years ago)

This is the only poll in which my votes actually affected the final order, ironically.

Tom (Groke), Monday, 6 January 2003 11:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Now I wish I'd voted, so I could have stocked my list with Eisenstein and Bunuel.

Justyn Dillingham (Justyn Dillingham), Monday, 6 January 2003 20:07 (twenty-two years ago)

ILE hates Scratch shockah! (or didn't get to see it, did it even come out in the UK for ex.?)

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 7 January 2003 18:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Well it didn't exactly get a big release in the UK (one in London I think). I thought it was pretty dull.

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 8 January 2003 12:30 (twenty-two years ago)

A) Judging by the number of 2K1 US releases, the Yanks didn't bother to turn up (or Adaptation would've won). Well done, fellow Commonwealthians, we've scared them off!

B) Copy my Afropop complaint from the albums poll; change to foreign film.

C) Even given this, I can't believe not one of you voted for Time Out, rendering my 30 points useless. I think internationally staggered release dates hit the quality of this poll compared to the others (that and the fact you're all hopeless) - the date limit might be more manageable, if ungainly, if it was "best movie made since 2000". Still, I like seven of the top ten (and I'll certainly adore Spirited Away when it comes out) and I can give Time Out 30 points again next year.

B.Rad (Brad), Thursday, 9 January 2003 12:58 (twenty-two years ago)

It was in my top twenty B.Rad, but not in my Top Ten. As much as I admired it it was
a) Not as good as Resources Humaine
b) In the end a film about a bloke not going to work is always going to be a touch, how you say, slow.

Pete (Pete), Thursday, 9 January 2003 13:17 (twenty-two years ago)

five years pass...

1. Donnie Darko (103pts) (76/24)

3. The Two Towers (85pts) (29/71)
4. Mulholland Drive (81pts) (57/43)

7. 24 Hour Party People (60pts) (67/33)

Dom Passantino, Tuesday, 18 March 2008 16:25 (seventeen years ago)

you forgot to stipulate only one film per decade, and no sequels, that's why.

darraghmac, Tuesday, 18 March 2008 16:34 (seventeen years ago)

twelve years pass...

Can't argue with that list.

Fucking terrible list.

Reckon the few people who are still here and voted in that poll find the current lists of top films totally unbearable.
