A small terracotta plant pot which, a long time ago, I sprayed with silver paint and stuck glass beads all over. This is used as a pen holder, and has a dwindling supply of biros in it because other people keep nicking them, plus an ink pen, two pencils, and a yellow highlighter pen.

A pile of paperwork - invoices, property inventories, dilapidations reports and bank statements - which I am hoping will somehow file themselves if I just ignore them long enough.

One gold earring. I seem to have lost the other one. Bugger.

i'm in the school library right now. on my section of the desk there's a yellow sheet that says the passwords for school programs and a bunch of elementary Latin worksheets that I have to copy.

at home my desk has two candle lamps, one red candle in a garish gold-painted holder, a quill pen and ink, a box with my fountain pen tips, a letter opener, and a box with wax seals. i have no computer in my room so it's nice an anachronistic and i hardly ever do work there.

Like Nicholson Baker's 'The Mezzanine', this thread reveals the kinetic truth value of unexamined clutter. Swinging the neglected straight to centre screen, we get a rush of recognition, a sense that this, rather than great romantic-humanist themes or tales of derring-do, is the essence of reality.

I would rather see photos of the clutter than read descriptions of it, though. I would draw highly prejudicial pictures of each person much quicker. I would know a great deal about their nationality, social class, type of humour, degree of aesthetic-mindedness, Freudian psychosexual type and so on after seeing such photos.

My desk is still covered in crap. Some of the stuff from 3 years ago has ~~gone~~ been shoved somewhere out of sight, and some of the stuff is new crap (two mobile phones, two USB card readers, various cables...).

I have no clue where the eff my chequebook is these days.
I have AA batteries made by Uniross (rechargeable, some NiCad some NiMh) and Duracell (alkaline).
Book of 1st class stamps, no fancy pictures on them.
