Damn, sorry about your friend, Geeta. But glad to hear his injuries are not life-threatening.

My story: Driving back to NY from Boston just a couple of weeks ago, late on Christmas Day, I slid on snow and crashed my car into a concrete highway barrier at a rather high speed. Thankfully, I wasn't injured (and my car, while somewhat crushed, continued to function well enough to take me the ten remaining miles to home), but it was pretty horrible all the same.

If you want a random story, the people who got shot by the maniac on top of the Empire State Building in '96 were my friends -- one was killed on the spot, another shot in the head (alive but pretty bad brain damage), and the third was standing in between those two.

A friend of mine once snapped his wrist and didn't tell anyone for two weeks because he didn't want to cause any fuss.

A friend of mine is currently on life support with meningitis. Not much of a story, but kinda preoccupying all the same.

My oldest brother was hit by a truck in Dec '84, lingered in a coma through Christmas and New Year's, then died 13 days before I turned 15. His best friend offered to take me under his wing as a new younger brother, went out and got loaded with a bunch of my brother's other friends, then got into a car accident trying to drive back home, killing himself in the process. I was at his funeral on my 15th birthday.

I had started hating humanity before this, but these events merely accelerated the process and lumped in pretty much every religion you can think of to boot.

Thanks CJ :) I haven't heard any more about my friend - we were told not to call, so I'm waiting with a knot in my stomach. I guess no news is probably good news, though.
