In Back to the Future Part III, Doc says a word that starts 'google', meaning a very large number. But no such thing is in my dictionary. I must watch it again with the subtitles on.

google = 1 followed by 100 zeros
googleplex = 1 followed by a google zeros

mark s (mark s), Thursday, 9 January 2003 13:39 (twenty-three years ago)

That's it - a googleplex. Now why is that not in my Collins dictionary? It is surely an excellent word for scrabble and playground showing off?

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 9 January 2003 13:46 (twenty-three years ago)

google not in Collins dictionary is surprising. but googleplex is a rubbish word so fair on that. i remember coming across it as a kid and thinking it was rubbish then.

Alan (Alan), Thursday, 9 January 2003 13:49 (twenty-three years ago)

But it's really big!

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 9 January 2003 13:54 (twenty-three years ago)

it thinks you're rubbish too

mark s (mark s), Thursday, 9 January 2003 13:54 (twenty-three years ago)

Ahh - it's supposed to be spelled googol, except by Douglas Adams.

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 9 January 2003 13:58 (twenty-three years ago)

Googleplex = A very, very big cinema which nevertheless is still showing Harry Potter and Lord Of The Rings one 70% of its screens.

Pete (Pete), Thursday, 9 January 2003 14:06 (twenty-three years ago)

Only 70%? IT'S NOT ENOUGH.
