I love things like this.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 9 January 2003 18:28 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm not colourblind!

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 9 January 2003 18:29 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm not either, but it's still cool.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 9 January 2003 18:31 (twenty-two years ago)

That's silly. And I am (R/G) colorblind.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 9 January 2003 19:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh the worst was the last time I got my eyes checked I had spent the entire day staring at my computer at work (like always) and ALMOST couldn't do one of the them. Worst feeling in the world knowing that there was a number there but my eyes were so strained I couldn't make it out at first.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Thursday, 9 January 2003 19:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Heh. But that test is cute.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Thursday, 9 January 2003 19:36 (twenty-two years ago)

That really bugged me. Because I did get half the answers wrong, and my dad and a maternal granduncle both had colour blindness, so there is a remote chance that I could be a genetic freak and be a female colour blind... so those tests always really scare me.

kate, Friday, 10 January 2003 01:34 (twenty-two years ago)

i am colourblind and i haven't yet taken the test - i will do it now and post in a mo

james (james), Friday, 10 January 2003 13:40 (twenty-two years ago)

i got one question right - dumbeyes

james (james), Friday, 10 January 2003 13:43 (twenty-two years ago)

you saw the woman w/ spikes in her face?

michael wells (michael w.), Friday, 10 January 2003 13:47 (twenty-two years ago)

no i thought that was an 8

james (james), Friday, 10 January 2003 13:50 (twenty-two years ago)

I am bigtime colorblind, don't know if this thing was a joke or not but I've done other tests before. The only time I saw a number here was in the first one, either way I knew I was colorblind already.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 10 January 2003 14:04 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't understand colorblindness. Instead of the color that's supposed to be there what color do you see? For instance (making this up now) if you can't see green what color is there in it's place?

lawrence kansas (lawrence kansas), Friday, 10 January 2003 14:11 (twenty-two years ago)

lawrence, it doesn't work like that - you see the same colour but that colour never registers as a colour you are aware of in your brain hence you never fully know it is say green or brown etc.

james (james), Friday, 10 January 2003 14:21 (twenty-two years ago)

thanks james.

lawrence kansas (lawrence kansas), Friday, 10 January 2003 14:36 (twenty-two years ago)

I had a friend who was a keen photographer who only found out he was colour blind when he got a job at Kodak developing photos!

Pete (Pete), Friday, 10 January 2003 14:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Wow, there are quite a few colourblind people here. Any more? I'm really curious about this. I am obsessed with finding out who is colourblind because according to the laws of genetics, if I bred with a colourblind male, half our sons and all of our daughters would be colourblind (or is that the other way around? I can't remember...) so I've got to find out in advance. Not that I planned on breeding with any ILX males, but you know what I mean...

kate, Friday, 10 January 2003 14:48 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm not colourblind, Kate. I have had a vasectomy and am old and unattractive, so one way and another this is more than a little moot.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 10 January 2003 18:18 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm mildly blue/grey colorblind, which I've never actually found any mention of anywhere, but which my eye doctor confirmed. Certain shades of blue and grey are indistinguishable to me (such as my carpet, actually), and just look ... like that color I see when it's blue or grey but I can't see it (sorry, wouldn't know how to explain it.) Certain shades of green and purple are tough to figure out at first, too, presumably because of the blue in them.

Tep (ktepi), Saturday, 11 January 2003 02:33 (twenty-two years ago)

seven months pass...
that made me jump out of my seat!

s1utsky (slutsky), Saturday, 23 August 2003 19:01 (twenty-two years ago)

fuck

donut bitch (donut), Saturday, 23 August 2003 19:07 (twenty-two years ago)

if you guys have a condition similar to mine (for those of you who know me better), i don't recommend taking this test

donut bitch (donut), Saturday, 23 August 2003 19:08 (twenty-two years ago)

sorry for reviving if it caused you any trouble, db.

s1utsky (slutsky), Saturday, 23 August 2003 19:09 (twenty-two years ago)

haha I had the sound down and didn't realise what was going on and was all like "wtf?! i was enjoying guessing the numbers... oh... oh i get... oh so i bet if the sound was up that would have been scary. yeah, nice one."

David. (Cozen), Saturday, 23 August 2003 20:28 (twenty-two years ago)

i showed this to a friend and he screamed like a girl and almost fell out of his seat. later he showed his brother, who apparently actually fell out of his seat.

mitch lastnamewithheld (mitchlnw), Saturday, 23 August 2003 20:35 (twenty-two years ago)

I am awake now. And not at all colorblind.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Saturday, 23 August 2003 21:07 (twenty-two years ago)

ten years pass...

I didn't know where else to put this so

There is an app called HueVue and it is the greatest friend to colorblind ppl. you point yr camera at the color you want to identify, tap the photo and it will give you plain english color description! like my weird nocolor + silver stripe sweater - I just learned that the nocolor is 'dark grayish brown' :D

and if you are non colorblind and you say 'why don't you just ask somebody' then you don't understand about the pitying looks, the amused looks, the confused looks and you having to explain yourself every time. sooooo much better to do by self

i have the worst time with eyeshadow, paint chips, and clothes, so this is going to make me a whole lot less unsure of myself

I did not know you are colorblind! must update mh.xls

seven years pass...

My aunt and I had a long conversation during a recent family get-together during which my colorblindness came up and I mentioned I was curious about corrective glasses for it but had red too many bad reviews to buy them. A few days later I get a card in the mail from her, with a $500 check! She wants to pay for the glasses. I was very moved by the gesture (she's not known to do this, I haven't received any sort of gift from her since we stopped exchanging Xmas gifts over 20 years ago, and she asked me to keep her gift a secret from the rest of the family while she's still alive).
Got the EnChroma glasses today and maaaaan what a letdown. I'd been curious to try them for many years now, thought today might be the day I finally see colors how God made them blah blah. Take a pair of polarized sunglasses and tint them pink. Voila you have EnChroma glasses as far as I can tell. Absolutely no difference made to my vision other than a reddish-pinkish tint (I have a hard time distinguishing light red vs pink). Returning them immediately, and have to tell my aunt thanks a ton but the glasses didn't do shit :(

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Friday, 28 May 2021 22:42 (four years ago)

EnChroma says could take up to a day for your brain to "adjust" to the glasses and notice a difference. Guess I'll see if that's the case.

I am severely colorblind and was thinking about these too. My attitude towards colour has always been "you don't miss what you never had" and also I Love Music, that fills the gap. But my wife has spent ages planting flowers in the garden and it would be nice to be able to appreciate that I guess.

interesting! let me know if you notice any dramatic change
