aka, if Mohammed won't come to the mountain (or in my case, can't). SAVE THE DATE -- Saturday, January 25. Let's say 4 pm for the hell of it, until whenever. Sean might be crazy enough to fly down from SF for it! And if you wish to join him, I live only a couple of miles (if that!) from John Wayne Airport in OC.

For those coming from LA -- venture here for my location. If you scroll north a bit, you'll see the 405 turnoff onto Bristol, and from there it's a piece of cake. You can also take the 5 south to the 55 south if you like.

RSVP here if you like or e-mail me directly for further details. Feel free to bring anything you like! Good wine always appreciated, never has to be expensive so long as it is tasty. :-) I'll figure out the details of what will be on hand soon enough.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 9 January 2003 20:41 (twenty-three years ago)

How do I get there via the London Underground, Ned? (i.e. I'd love to come, but it's a bit out of my range, in terms of distance and money.)

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 9 January 2003 20:46 (twenty-three years ago)

How do I get there via the London Underground, Ned?

I would say via Cockfosters but that's the direct route to Dan.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 9 January 2003 20:47 (twenty-three years ago)

I thought that was Arsenal?

mark p (Mark P), Thursday, 9 January 2003 20:55 (twenty-three years ago)

Why Ned! You live in Costa Mesa, CA! the WILLIAMSBURG OF ORANGE COUNTY!

*runs and hides*

donut bitch (donut), Thursday, 9 January 2003 20:55 (twenty-three years ago)

This just does not work as an insult! I keep thinking of Colonial Williamsburg, I never heard of this other Williamsburg until a month or two ago. (This is part of my well-deserved reverse discrimination towards New York, of course. ;-))

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 9 January 2003 21:03 (twenty-three years ago)

I wasn't trying to insult Costa Mesa.. why would I say anything negative about SoCal's hottest new STYLE LAB? (*residuals to Paul Frank pending*)

donut bitch (donut), Thursday, 9 January 2003 21:16 (twenty-three years ago)

(this is kinda inside jokes all based on a discussion I had with Spencer, I think... right, Spencer?)

donut bitch (donut), Thursday, 9 January 2003 21:17 (twenty-three years ago)

hey bitch, would you be referring to that "alternative" mall retail collective that's like a block away from SCP?

gygax!, Thursday, 9 January 2003 21:19 (twenty-three years ago)

That very collective is just down the block from me.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 9 January 2003 21:30 (twenty-three years ago)

have fun Ned!

rainy (rainy), Thursday, 9 January 2003 21:31 (twenty-three years ago)

Yay fun! :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 9 January 2003 21:33 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes, don't have mopey Ned or furious Ned.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 9 January 2003 21:34 (twenty-three years ago)

Hey!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 9 January 2003 22:00 (twenty-three years ago)

The only thing that comes close to fun Ned is somewhat confused Ned.

OleM (OleM), Thursday, 9 January 2003 22:02 (twenty-three years ago)

here's a housewarming gift: ,

rainy (rainy), Thursday, 9 January 2003 22:04 (twenty-three years ago)

It's a comma! You can use it to prop open tiny little doors.

nabisco (nabisco), Thursday, 9 January 2003 22:47 (twenty-three years ago)

Rah! This is a good and useful thing to have. :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 9 January 2003 23:10 (twenty-three years ago)

OC is Paul Frank heaven? Rosemary, are you listening?

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 9 January 2003 23:13 (twenty-three years ago)

Don't go wasting it Ned.

Graham (graham), Friday, 10 January 2003 00:10 (twenty-three years ago)

I think I'm going to be there, btw!

Sean (Sean), Friday, 10 January 2003 00:41 (twenty-three years ago)

hppy warm house ned!

minna (minna), Friday, 10 January 2003 03:14 (twenty-three years ago)

chaki will be drunk at neds house.

chaki (chaki), Friday, 10 January 2003 03:15 (twenty-three years ago)

Ned should get a fade and he can pretend he's in House Party. I will send my best wishes!

Nicole (Nicole), Friday, 10 January 2003 03:32 (twenty-three years ago)

DANCE!

di smith (lucylurex), Friday, 10 January 2003 04:19 (twenty-three years ago)

Congratulations, Ned! So sorry I can't make it. :(

The LAB (Anti-Mall) is not new, but it is pretty cool.

felicity (felicity), Friday, 10 January 2003 05:35 (twenty-three years ago)

Hey, you're pretty close to the Mitsuwa Mart, too, aren't you? I used to work right the street in Hutton Centre in Santa Ana.

felicity (felicity), Friday, 10 January 2003 05:39 (twenty-three years ago)

I just bought my ticket! See you there!

Sean (Sean), Saturday, 11 January 2003 16:20 (twenty-three years ago)

Ned is making you pay to get in? That's a bit much.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 11 January 2003 16:29 (twenty-three years ago)

Ned should get a fade and he can pretend he's in House Party.

Nicole is NO LONGER MY FRIEND. If only because said haircut would not look well on me. ;-) Besides, if I did pretend to be in said film, I'd be thrown in jail, and I don't have the MC skills to avoid anal rape in a 'hilarious' scene, see.

Hey, you're pretty close to the Mitsuwa Mart, too, aren't you?

Are you talking about what was formerly Yaohan? That's just a block up, yes.

Ned is making you pay to get in? That's a bit much.

Now there's an idea! No, Sean is just crazy enough to get a ticket down from SF for it. And it was only $77, so I suggest all Bay Area ILX types join him. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 11 January 2003 17:22 (twenty-three years ago)

Ned's a whore! He'll do anything for money!

So, anyway, I look forward to my next OC adventure. I will resist the urge to sing "Baker Street".

Arthur (Arthur), Saturday, 11 January 2003 17:38 (twenty-three years ago)

Ned's a whore! He'll do anything for money!

I would definitely do anything to be as good a singer as Robin Zander was between 1975 and 1980.

I will resist the urge to sing "Baker Street".

Eep! Well, you can hum the sax solo if you like.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 11 January 2003 17:45 (twenty-three years ago)

"Ned's got this dream about buying some land, he's gonna give up the booze and the one night stands..."

OK, I'll stop.

"Cause Ned's rolling, Ned's a rolling stone."

Aaaaaaarrrgghhhh.

Arthur (Arthur), Saturday, 11 January 2003 18:09 (twenty-three years ago)

You are going insane, Mr. Arthur. Although I guess that first line would go well for John Darnielle (except the booze and one night stands parts, but I wouldn't know).

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 11 January 2003 18:22 (twenty-three years ago)

Without the booze and one night stands there ain't much left!

And Arthur, if you're signed into an AOL account as tabren1234, why can't I IM you? I understand if you don't want to be pestered by mentalists...

Sean (Sean), Saturday, 11 January 2003 18:25 (twenty-three years ago)

ned im going to perform at your party

chaki (chaki), Saturday, 11 January 2003 18:38 (twenty-three years ago)

Heh, sweet. Mind you, the neighbors might have other thoughts. Is there such a thing as Chaki unplugged?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 11 January 2003 18:40 (twenty-three years ago)

Things are really heating up!

Sean (Sean), Saturday, 11 January 2003 18:43 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh, sorry Sean, AIM kept fucking up my computer so I deleted it. I've been meaning to set it up again. I'll let you know when I do. My AIM name is "spacklethehag". Or "hiyaarthur".

Arthur (Arthur), Saturday, 11 January 2003 18:48 (twenty-three years ago)

Ned is making you pay to get in? That's a bit much.

Ned's having to throw a rent party already? Although if the California governor's cutting down the budget as much as that picture suggested...

j.lu (j.lu), Saturday, 11 January 2003 18:49 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh, Sean, I guess I didn't delete AIM after all! The alias is still there. Well, check for spacklethehag tonight. I think I need to get back into the IM world.

Arthur (Arthur), Saturday, 11 January 2003 18:51 (twenty-three years ago)

Ned's having to throw a rent party already? Although if the California governor's cutting down the budget as much as that picture suggested...

Stranger has happened! And there could yet be something ominous -- there was a message yesterday from the UCI Executive Vice Chancellor about possibly looking into a 'reduction in time/pay' option to help with the budget crunch, hrm. That said, three workers have recently resigned or retired from Access, which is my department, and they're not planning on replacing them any time soon. My guess is that will be a partial (if not total) buffer to whatever happens, but I admit it's a concern. My freelance work may yet be more important than I realized! I'm just glad my credit card debt is essentially finis.

In the meantime, I am pursuing various career development things through the campus itself that could have wider applicability -- I had thought I might start looking for another job this year anyway, and while state bureaucracy is almost always a great buffer when the economy eats in terms of keeping steady employment, more options to hand could yet be important. We shall see. Reserves is busy and important enough that I doubt they could do much more in terms of paring us down, but then again, every individual team will have something similar to say, in the library or out of it.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 11 January 2003 19:01 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh I feel the LURE of IM...

Mary (Mary), Saturday, 11 January 2003 19:06 (twenty-three years ago)

DO IT, MARY. YOU KNOW YOU WANT TO.

rosemary (rosemary), Saturday, 11 January 2003 21:10 (twenty-three years ago)

ned and sean you must play "the slider" at least three times and think of me thank you that is all.

di smith (lucylurex), Saturday, 11 January 2003 23:40 (twenty-three years ago)

Arrangements can be made.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 12 January 2003 01:14 (twenty-three years ago)

i will bring a lampshade

oh i can also bring d0rkb0t (remember her from chat?) as she lives in yorba linda, but since i am an OC virgin and have never seriously been south of like, artesia, on my own, i may get lost in that suburban wilderness and never be found, not that that is really that bad, but in OC? ehe

Vic (Vic), Monday, 13 January 2003 02:57 (twenty-three years ago)

Poor Vic, I fear for him! I would hate to be lost in that hood all alone...

Nicole (Nicole), Monday, 13 January 2003 03:25 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes i'd prefer Compton. How many of Ned's attractive ladyfriends _or man friends, for that matter_ will be coming to this shindig, btw? Will it just be ILx folk? If I come dressed as Ned or bring a professional Ned Raggett impersonator, do I win a door prize?

Vic (Vic), Monday, 13 January 2003 07:26 (twenty-three years ago)

You frighten me.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 13 January 2003 14:14 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh sorry, I don't want you to feel any anxiety. I won't ruin your gathering, I promise. I'll come dressed as doom-e. You'll never know the difference (and I won't touch the marshmallows or booze)

Vic (Vic), Monday, 13 January 2003 14:35 (twenty-three years ago)

Astounding!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 13 January 2003 15:29 (twenty-three years ago)

Revival! Hope to see everyone tomorrow who can make it -- for everyone else, there are various threats to take digital photos for immediate uploading. There will probably not be a haircut, though.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 24 January 2003 19:27 (twenty-three years ago)

Insecure or thoughtful?

Sean (Sean), Friday, 24 January 2003 20:44 (twenty-three years ago)

re: Bristol, Williamsburg

Ned will forever be inexorably pulled towards anything related to Great Britain. Heh.

Girolamo Savonarola, Saturday, 25 January 2003 01:16 (twenty-three years ago)

So how was this? Sorry I couldn't make it, Ned. I had to prepare something work related and had to make Raider time.

HOWEVER, it was a blast meeting Ned, Arthur and Vic on Friday night. They all rule as their posts would suggest. They're all "it". Next time we get trashed and into some trouble.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Monday, 27 January 2003 06:03 (twenty-three years ago)

and what happened to the live webcast?

ron (ron), Monday, 27 January 2003 06:22 (twenty-three years ago)

that bank of america worm ate it

James Blount (James Blount), Monday, 27 January 2003 06:23 (twenty-three years ago)

Bastardly, but it happened.

And yes, ended up in LA Friday night and was able to meet up the Good People as indicated above, bless their hearts. Sean flew in yesterday for the party here, Chris Barrus and Karen aka Stripey came along and various other friends and relations stopped on in. Nothing wholly crazy in the evening but there was everything from good Peruvian food to soaking in the jacuzzi in a warm Santa Ana wind while sipping on a good Shiraz, num. Hurrah! Arthur, Sean and I killed a bit of time down here today, food, enjoying the weather on the beach and record shopping. Rock.

Next plan -- something with my birthday at the start of March. Those who could not make this party have to attend that one under pain of death. Uh, yeah.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 27 January 2003 07:03 (twenty-three years ago)

but ned, i want to live!

di smith (lucylurex), Monday, 27 January 2003 07:36 (twenty-three years ago)

You are spared.

(I should specify I was referring to the LA-area contingent only. ;-))

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 27 January 2003 07:49 (twenty-three years ago)

Pictures forthcoming?

nickn (nickn), Tuesday, 28 January 2003 02:37 (twenty-three years ago)

Sean and I took a couple, not many tho.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 28 January 2003 03:13 (twenty-three years ago)

gah! First time I've ever been jealous of people in L.A. since....since.....since....

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Tuesday, 28 January 2003 03:15 (twenty-three years ago)

There's always a first time. ;-)
