Oh no, becoming your parents! Oh no!

Well are you?

I'm only 22 and I'm already on my way. Most distressing. To top it off, I can't remember exactly how.

every now and then i'll write something and think "jesus, that looks exactly like your mom's handwriting. . ." those moments are surreal.

Otherwise I'm nothing like my parents and am fucking grateful for every divergince. I would be in a sad goddamn state if I were like them.

That Girl (thatgirl), Sunday, 12 January 2003 10:39 (twenty-two years ago)

My parents are both wonderful, successful (in my Dad's case), attractive, grounded people that I'd be grateful to end up like. I thank god I inherited a fraction of what they have.

What Sean said.

I second That Girl's second para. I am 43, and I fondly believe that having avoided any resemblance this far, I may have won the battle.

Imagine how clones are going to feel.

"I'm turning into my dad!"

"You ARE your dad!"

"So are you!"

Got my mom's view on the world, snarky sense of humor and love of quiet solitude at many points, and my dad's manner of speaking and probably other things as well that I'm not crediting as much. That said, I understand Sean's feelings as well.

i'm much more like my sister than my parents. but i have plenty of my parents' traits. some i'm not so fond of, some are very good to have.

but once in a while you hear in yerself an inflection of speech, or some little thing like that, that's just like mom or dad. and that's freaky.

My parents weren't nearly so wonderful, but I do like to think that I have inherited their better qualities. Problem is, I sometimes find in myself some of their less admirable tendencies.

I haven't worn my hair loose since the morning I looked in the mirror and saw something that looked strangely like my mother. Yes, it's very, very freaky.

I don't think I have this to fear, aside from a streak of stubborness that I share w/ my father (which makes disagreements agonizing), there's hardly anything approaching resemblance. Different attitudes, influences, world-views, tastes, philosophies-on-life, goals, behaviors, desires, dreams, and values, probably as a result of having been brought up in starkly contrasting cultural milieus, and I say this despite the common language, food, and more-or-less spiritual/religious orientation. They're still stuck in that uneasy middle-earth, the tenuous position every immigrant or first-generation citizen seems to psychologically inhabit. Neither here nor there, but where?

Or as my mom put it once, asking me: "we don't *know* you, WHERE did your soul come from??" yeah, family = place u belong!!

Vic (Vic), Sunday, 12 January 2003 18:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, I haven't been around them all that much - my dad for more than a decade now, my mom, only a visitor since I was in seventh grade. So I love 'em, but they're not especially influential. Oddly, I look almost nothing like my mom at all. We've got the same hazel eye colour, but that's about it.

Kim (Kim), Sunday, 12 January 2003 18:54 (twenty-two years ago)

In appearance and mannerism, perhaps. Ideologically, on opposite ends. If anything, though, they've mellowed a bit with age and are becoming more like me while I am still young, idealistic and fed up with hypocrisy.
