Palm pilots-c/d?

I don't know much about these, but--Is there a stigma associated with palm pilots that I'm not really aware of? I don't have one, but I think it would be kind of useful for a very scatty person like myself. Are there many that are mac-compatible?

All are mac compatible, and work with iSync. They are very good at what they do. I recommend the Sony Clie SL-10 as it has much more memory than the equivalent palm and handspring models.

Essentially you have a choice between Sony, Palm and Handspring Manufactured models, all of which have strengths and weaknesses but the sony ones appear to have the edge at the moment. the cheapest one is made by Palm, called a Zire, but it has very little memory a low resolution screen and no screen protector.

Things like this are only any good if you are rigorous about filling them and checking them. The good thing about Palm OS devices is that they are very easy to link with Applications and data sources on your computer.

I'd lose about six of them a day, which is dud, but that said I could fucking well do with one. I have no idea at all of anything that is happening after tomorrow. So classic if you can fill them in properly and not lose the fuckers. Are there any you can staple to the lining of your jacket?

Small enough to lose unlike a laptop.Datebooks are much cheaper. Dud

I wound up with a Handspring, sort of by accident. It's quite useful! If I lost it I doubt I'd go out and buy another one, but nevertheless I'm glad to have it: I use it to write whenever I'm stuck someplace, I keep work tasks in its calendars and to-do lists, I actually know my friends' phone numbers now, and occasionally I'll dump things I've been meaning to read onto it and catch up on them later (though reading on it for extended periods of time is a bit rub). Plus you can play games on it.

I love mine...I have a Clie. You do feel a bit geeky fiddling with them in front of others, but I'm a geek so it doesn't bug me much. Oh, the best thing about the Clies is that they come with a program that makes the Clie turn into a universal remote control, so you can change any model TV at the bar. Also I like some of the other apps like AvantGo that lets you read websites on your palm and Mapopolis that shows you maps of any county in the US. Both are free for the basic versions. I also find it useful to set the alarm when I have meetings as I would get caught up in projects and miss meetings otherwise.

Teeny! Eureka! I'm so glad you've mentioned this!

See, I have this Handspring ... and I also have a DVD player which lacks a remote ... and I've been sitting around putting off going and getting a universal remote so I can use the DVD player (I could put this off indefinitely, since I don't need a remote to just play something all the way through and have done with it) ... and now! Now! I realize! My Handspring will solve all problems.

Is the Clie still good? What's new?

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 21 April 2004 20:21 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't get it.

What's wrong with pen and paper? And can anyone explain tablet PCs to me whilst we're at it?

i had a palm pilot for three years and used it only to hold phone numbers, then the battery died and I lost all the info in it, so I sold it. I like lots of gadgets but I can't wrap my head around any of these, they seem to have too steep a learning curve or something, I can't take notes on them at all. maybe I need to be convinced otherwise though.

I'll reconider these when the ones with a phone get cheaper (and a little smaller).

two years pass...
to pass the time a couple of months ago I started to pimp my ds lite into a "palm" then I recieved a palm tx as a gift :-/ so... how do you all get the best out of your palm?

Until now I'm not 100% satisfied with the few things I tried , like sorting out some pictures (can't see animated gifs with their "media" software), PalmPdf works but it's probably too slow for me to use without getting annoyed, can't access youtube, and del.icio.us and gmail are a bit of a mess through the included browser "blazer", couldn't get opera mini to work, haven't found a proper file manager yet (filez sort of suck) . I'll try to access a drive of my pc with wi-fi , it could be nice to sort out txt and pictures directly over there. On the plus side well it fits in the front pocket of my coat, it boots fast, I like the "notepad" thing and some sites like this one works pretty fine.
suggestions tips etc welcomed

I played with a Newton for about a week until I had to use it in public and felt like an utter spanner. That said, Palms are handy for e-books and playing old-ass text adventures. They're killer for them, actually.
