I wanted to go see the flaming lips. they're playing here on wednesday. I meant to buy a ticket. a friend of mine from alabama was going home for christmas and said that my girlfriend [who was visiting me over the same period] and I could stay in his flat in glasgow while he was gone and refused any payment for. when I arrived to get the keys at two a.m. on the morning he was flying home, I was drunk and he mentioned the flaming lips gig and I said I was getting me a ticket and I'd get him one--don't know what he would have done if I hadn't said...not gotten a ticket? but he didn't get a ticket anyway...because I kept forgetting to buy them and he arrived back today and the gig is sold out. I was in a record store today and a guy behind the counter asked me if I wanted a flaming lips ticket. I said I did. he sold me it. AM I DUTY-BOUND TO GIVE IT TO MY FRIEND WHO LET ME STAY IN HIS FLAT?

yeah, I think so. I wouldn't enjoy the show with this stuff hanging over me. So, you ought to offer it to him, I think.

You had to ask?

Here is the way I see it. You have to consider all the angles.

If your friend asks you about his ticket to the concert and you lie and say you didn't get any tickets at all, then you run the risk he'll find out and be very angry that you treated him like shit. Not only would you lose a friend who does nice things for you and has the potential for enriching your life far beyond one flaming lips concert, but if you ever need to frame anyone for a crime you committed, you'll have one less person who trusts you enough to be an easy mark.

yeah--

he's not a superclose friend but he's a nice guy and I do consider him a friend. I mean, I didn't PROMISE him a ticket--just said I'd get him one when I got one...and I didn't get one...AND I was drunk at the time! I did clean his flat top-to-bottom and buy in bread and milk and toilet paper for him on his return=I'm a nice guy too.

but these are all academical since another good guy I know has another spare ticket I can have. everyone's happy! or, at least, I am and my friend is.

: D
