What happened? If not, phone her and tell me.

Yeah Ronan! anyway Wheatus are great! Probably!

24 hour troubleshooter, Friday, 24 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

fuck it, you might as well.

Michael Bourke, Friday, 24 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

What's to lose! Better to love than never to ... come on, only love can break your heart! Try to be sure right from the start!

maryann, Saturday, 25 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

You're too young to say you're through with love.

DavidM, Saturday, 25 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

She phoned me.............so with my stud credibility nicely intact I said I MIGHT be out tonight. Maybe. She was out last night with her parents for dinner, which is a good thing since I drank without eating a dinner and got absolutely hammered, but at about 12 I was sober enough to realise I was really drunk (how does that work) and I went home for sleep. Now I am just emerging from hangover and thinking about driving to Mc Donalds........I don't know about tonight, I keep thinking wheatus wheatus wheatus.

Ronan Fitzgerald, Saturday, 25 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Let it go, Ronan (the Wheatus objections, I mean, not the girl). Why you should let it go:

1. There are far worse bands she could be liking. Probably. 2. If she's got a sense of humour, you can do the gentle teasing act- putting Wheatus down whenever possible, just to get her kinda mad. Cuteness a must.

3. If you're gonna limit the number of people with whom you can conduct acceptable relationships to the number of people that share your unique tastes, then you will probably descend into Kevin Shields- like isolation.

4. She doesn't know what she's missin'

Mitch Lastnamewithheld, Saturday, 25 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

She sounds like a nice bird. What'll happen now is that because you said you MIGHT be out, she'll think it's not worth the effort and not bother. You will be sad.

Greg, Saturday, 25 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I won't be sad. I don't like her enough to be sad. That's probably why I don't want anything to happen (kind of dont want) because I'll feel like a dickhead for not being very serious about it afterwards. Maybe she's thinking the same thing, but (grabs collar in fonzy like pose) I think she likes me more than I like her.

Ronan, Saturday, 25 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

This goes back to other stuff talked about - is the problem that she likes Wheatus, or do you think it's indicative of a larger problem that she is a shallow or uninteresting person? If she seems like someone you could love, then not going out with her because she likes a band you don't like is just silly. Remember, as Nick Hornby wrote towards the end of High Fidelity (*rock thrown by mark s. bounces off Dave M.'s head*), what's important isn't what you like, but what you ARE like.

Dave M., Saturday, 25 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I'm not suggesting getting married. That's just stupid. But text her and let her know where you are tonight. Do it at about 8.30 so you're already out but it still gives her the chance to come out if she's not already.

Greg, Saturday, 25 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Ok yeah........it's not that she likes Wheatus, it is part of a larger problem, not that she's shallow and uninteresting, she's just not really interesting, and I'm not really interested. I could be a guy and just score her anyway, but I'm feeling very moral. This may change after a few drinks.

Ronan, Saturday, 25 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I just read the Nick Hornby part of your posting. Surely what you like is alot to do with what you are like. By the way I've decided I can now post as just Ronan and you'll know who I am. How brilliantly informal.

Ronan, Saturday, 25 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I don't know. Who the fuck are you, anyway?

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 25 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Oh for fuck sake. I wouldn't go out with a girl who wasn't a Wheatus fan.

No, even that's being pickier than I can afford. I wouldn't go out with a girl who wasn't.

Graham, Saturday, 25 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Wise assessment.

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 25 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I think the point of the Hornby quote is that too often we get lazy and don't look at the person behind their taste. I know lots of people who like the music I like, and about half of them are damned awful people, and I'm not going to hang around with them based on the fact that they know who Amon Duul II are. By the same token, some of my best friends worship Dismemberment Plan. Nuff said.

Dave M., Monday, 27 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

So anyway, what happened last weekend?

Greg, Friday, 31 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Oh god not much. It's a long and typically weird story. She didn't come out saturday and I spent the night talking to a girl I always flirt with who's going out with a different friend, and realised I still really like her. Of course I'd still like to snog the wheatus girl, sort of because I think I can, we men are such assholes really. She's going on holidays today or something, she rang me on tuesday and I was too lazy to go out. I'm sure it'll resurface at some point in the future, as will me and that other girl, the one who's taken. I just want what I cant fucking have basically, or so it seems.

Ronan, Friday, 31 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

"She sounds like a nice bird. What'll happen now is that because you said you MIGHT be out, she'll think it's not worth the effort and not bother. You will be sad."

And there you were, saying I was wrong. I was not wrong.

Greg, Friday, 31 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

No no, and whats more you said I'd be sad. Also she had a genuinely good reason for not coming out and as I say she rang me during the week asking was I going out, so I'm right, sickeningly right.

Ronan, Saturday, 1 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

three months pass...
she told me to fuck off and said i was scum last night. i hadnt seen her in weeks. i dont know why.

Ronan, Saturday, 15 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

arf. Maybe she had missed you so much that your absence gradually transformed you into scum?

rainy, Saturday, 15 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I don't know. it's scary. there are two theories, one is that she is annoyed I did not ask her to go to this christmas ball thingy from school I have to go to. the other is that she's kind of insane. i dont think she'd really be annoyed about me not bringing her to that cos I don't think she likes me much, so maybe she's kind of insane.

er.....to whom it concerns.

Ronan, Tuesday, 18 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

When a girl tells you "Fuck off, you're scum", what she's REALLY saying is "I find you irresistable!" Don't you KNOW that?

dave q, Tuesday, 18 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

three years pass...
i think she probably doesnt really like wheatus anymore. in fact, i suspect she hasn't even thought of them in like 18 months at least.

i hope she's doing ok, all the same

"TEENAGE DIRTBAG"

n/a (Nick A.), Thursday, 10 November 2005 22:34 (twenty years ago)

I bought a copy of "Under the Banner of Heaven" at a yard sale and I found a used ticket to a Wheatus concert in Providence, RI in it.

n/a (Nick A.), Thursday, 10 November 2005 22:36 (twenty years ago)

Have I ever told my Wheatus story on here?

They played the Northampton Roadmender circa the release of "Teenage Dirtbag", and they must have had a day off between shows, because I can't think of any other reason they'd stay in Northampton during the day. Anyway, at the time, I was a Sunday worker at BHS upstairs (mens clothing, lighting, and toiletwear), and the lead singer wandered in. Surrounded by his transient fans (they're probably all Kubb street teamers now), like around 25 of them. So he wanders over to the counter with a pair of black, like hiking socks. He puts them down on the counter, turns to his posse of fawning ass-lickers, and goes: "I'm buying English socks!". They all laughed.

That was my brush with celebrity.
