Do people really think he cares what the American corporations,I mean people want?

Do you think theres gonna be a bunch of flag waving gun toting war wanters clogging up the lines?

My opinion- "opinions" and a few casulties are not as important to our president as his money and controlling the worlds oil.

>The Bush White House has an "opinion" line for you to call.
>So call and give your opinion of the proposed war in Iraq. The line only
>accepts
>calls from 9-5 EST. Monday thru Friday. Just call the White House at
>202-456-1111. A machine will detain you for only a moment and then a pleasant
>live operator will thank you for saying "I oppose" or "I approve." It will
>only take minutes. Note that the weekends are closed for calls. The
>president has said that he wants to
>know what the American people are thinking. Let him know. Time is running
>out. Then please forward this e-mail to at least
> Tell them what you think: 1 PHONE CALL EQUALS 10-20 PEOPLE
>WHO DIDN'T CALL, PLEASE PASS ON TO FRIENDS
> Surprisingly, the White House operators are very, very nice.

You could call up and pretend to be Bono. These days you might actually get through.

if the white house has announced that it's doing this, then it must want to be seen to be using — and deferring to — the "opinion" delivered

*either* as a way of back-pedalling out of a war that continues to be less popular than they gambled on (to justify no war, or anyway less war than promised), *or* as a way of delivering "cast-iron" public approval of a war that continues to be less popular than they gambled on (to justify going ahead with the war)

in other words, it's (another) sign of nervousness as the gung-ho spasm congeals somewhat

if the corporations who control the world *entirely* failed to listen to everyone else the whole time they would not be controlling the world for very long: you cvan't divide and conquer effectively and sustainedly w/o having a fairly finetuned idea of where the divisions may be, and what they're about

I'm hoping it for the former

Mark's analysis is a good one only this approve/disapprove line has been functioning since late summer at the least.

well late summer is when everyone's mood becomes melancholic surely, even in the corporate war-monger set?

PM was required to do this to settle lawsuits. Miller and other alcohol companies do this 1) to try to show that they are a caring company, and 2) to keep their customers from killing themselves.

Bush's approval rating did drop to its lowest since 9/11 according to a recent survey. Even his congressional allies are getting pretty sore at the way Bush and Rumsfeld have been running the show wihtout disclosing the extent of what's really in the works. Personally I only hope we don't end up fighting Iraq and NK at once, but hey, not my decision at this point.
