This soap is awesome. The label is awesome. Ralph, Jim and Emmanuel Bronner are awesome. DIS or AGREE?

1 1 2 3 5, Friday, 24 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Oh, perfectly wonderful, especially for that label. See, the perfect thing about a bottle of that is -- you take a relaxing bath. You've created soap bubbles or whatever from some of Dr. Bronner's stuff, you relax back, and then if you're a touch bored you can always kill time while you soak by reading the label. Can't miss!

Ned Raggett, Friday, 24 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Is he as scientologist or something? He's wacky.

Mike Hanle y, Saturday, 25 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Nah, he just followed his own particular vision. Vaguely Kabbalistic, vaguely Essene, entirely unique.

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 25 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Do you not read in the tub. Why else do people bathe.

anthony, Saturday, 25 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I bathe to get the leeches off

Mike Hanle y, Saturday, 25 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Thats why i have dave.

anthony, Saturday, 25 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I thought Dave was a leech.

Mike Hanle y, Saturday, 25 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

No im the leech.

anthony, Saturday, 25 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

ANYWAY -- I do in fact read in the tub, though sometimes I just listen to music. Other times I just like to meditate.

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 25 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Emmanuel Bronner was preaching the "Moral ABC" off his label at the University of Chicago long before he starting making his soap. Someone was so taken with his words they tried crucifying theirself. Dr. Bronner is my hero.

1 1 2 3 5, Saturday, 25 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

dilute! dilute! ok! (words so powerful they wound up on the cover of a big black single). dr. b's website is quite useful for explaining a few things about him - quite an interesting fellow he was. on the other hand, though, i get less entertainment out of the labels now. it tingles!

your null fame, Monday, 27 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

stupid damn html tags.

your null fame, Monday, 27 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Feel better now?

Ned Raggett, Monday, 27 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I went to college with the guy who's the current president of the company. He's responsible for introducing hemp oil into the soap. Anyone who knew him in college is not surprised.

Dan Perry, Tuesday, 28 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

two years pass...
I just got a bar of peppermint soap and there is no kookiness on the label anymore!!!!

teeny (teeny), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 18:21 (twenty-two years ago)

I saw a bar or two the other week and the kookiness was there but extremely abridged. Still on the bottles, though.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 18:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Can you still get the regular non-hemp kind?

it doesn't have the crazy label anymore?! that sucks!

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 8 April 2004 01:02 (twenty-two years ago)

one year passes...
The current soap bars, as Teeny notes, are crazyless -- but "All-One" is still stamped onto the bar itself, so all is well, if brief.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 20 October 2005 02:37 (twenty years ago)

I don't know about the hemp soap, but their peppermint soap-mmm... soap. Any soap you can brush your teeth with is A-OK by me.

viborgu, Thursday, 20 October 2005 04:36 (twenty years ago)

I made up a little song once in the shower, it goes:

do not give up all your hope
use dr. bronner's magic soap

I'm sorry

Ed (dali), Thursday, 20 October 2005 06:52 (twenty years ago)

it's pretty great, but the ring of the phrase "all-one!" really gets under my skin in a bad way...but not as much as "dread-wash" ;)

I don't have dreads, but the tea-tree is my jam for sure. Also, my bottle still has the crazy all over it.

I was gonna start a thread on Dr Bronner last week!

I was just about to say, they sell it next to the dr bronners and make me feel guilty for going generic, what with the fair trade and magic orphanage giving and whatnot!

Why should I buy Dr. Bronner's when I can just read an ILM thread?

also not nearly as good. where's the tingle? WHERE? and it smells too sweet.

and i don't know what a key foods is (if it's a chain it'll probably make central NJ by 2100 AD, i'll register an opinion then). but having a TJ locally that sells shit for about half the price of whole foods is pretty sweet. $2 garlic naan is as good as it gets.

GOD PUNCH TO HAWKWIND (yournullfame), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 05:02 (nineteen years ago)

three weeks pass...

Man, I just figured out what Andrew W.K. reminds me of: the Dr. Brooner's label! Here's a sample from the W.K.:

The truth of the matter is that for far too long we have been given the luxury of our own individual pursuits over the pursuits of humanity. And while humanity will progress in some way or another no matter what, many of us, especially those of us privileged enough to make choices based exclusively on what we feel is right for ourselves alone, may not be contributing to a world that ultimately contains a lot more than just ourselves. But things are getting better! Always! Whether we know it right now or not! Every single element in the universe is striving to make progress. It is the universal inertia that cannot be slowed down and to fight against it is pointless. Clinging to lost values is not a heroic attempt to save what was once sacred, but rather a cowardly attempt to retain a sense of order in a very chaotic and ever changing world. It makes sense, and it will be O.K.!!! Right? RIGHT!

Abbott, Monday, 16 July 2007 03:18 (eighteen years ago)

You are a genius. :-)

Ned Raggett, Monday, 16 July 2007 03:21 (eighteen years ago)

Sadly, these two men are the closest I have ever come to appreciating what could be considered spiritual texts.

Abbott, Monday, 16 July 2007 03:29 (eighteen years ago)

hey! they showed the documentary on sundance. it was pretty cool. watchin bronner fulminate in the background - in a swimming pool - as his wife was interviewed was pretty entertaining.

Thanks, but I'm looking for the .pdf so it can be giant and readable.

en i see kay, Tuesday, 11 December 2007 21:02 (eighteen years ago)

i also read somewhere that the ph of dr. b's soaps is good for the lady bits.

i don't know how good it is for the bits, but the bottles used to have directions for using the soap as a birth control method because of the pH and whatnot. maybe with a little lemon? i don't know if they still have that one there or not. i'll have to check.

have recently switched from peppermint to almond. for winter! less chilling!

andrew m., Tuesday, 11 December 2007 22:16 (eighteen years ago)

but the bottles used to have directions for using the soap as a birth control method because of the pH and whatnot. maybe with a little lemon? i don't know if they still have that one there or not

Debunked:

...Bronner's birth control method involves using lemon juice and Vaseline as a spermicide. While it's true the high acidity in lemon juice will kill sperm, doctors say it could also cause your insides to become irritated or burned. Besides, Vaseline isn't water soluble. You'd be clogging up your insides and wreaking God knows what kind of havoc. With all respect to Bronner, I'd advise sticking to diaphragms.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 11 December 2007 22:19 (eighteen years ago)

i would not have condoned it, debunked or not!

andrew m., Tuesday, 11 December 2007 22:22 (eighteen years ago)

Hm dunno that place. But there are about a hundred million children running around S Wburg so I don't think the baby method is working out that well.

They started taking the birth control thing off the label after Dr. B original died. I don't know if it was a legal thing or the kids just decided to redact it, but it is NO MORE on the silkscreened bottles (v nice move, the label is now immortally water proof).

That is a WAY awesomes gift idea en, I am gonna have to steal it...for a gift to ME. How are you getting it printef?

Abbott, Tuesday, 11 December 2007 23:02 (eighteen years ago)

Thanks soooo much, svend.

My roommate has a big-ass inject that does up to around 19 x 13 and a bunch of photo paper, so I'm just going to use that while he's still out of town. I'll totally send you one if you want (and if it works out like I'm hoping), using his ink and paper is the one spiteful act of revenge I'm indulging in.

The not-soap products... I'm not as much of a fan of. The hair conditioner is weirdly astringent and doesn't seem to do much, and the shaving soap in a tube turns into a weird slime that doesn't really foam up. Hmm.
